Crime Scene Middletown: Prescription Fraud, False 911 Calls, Shoplifting, Theft and Other Recent Activity Reported

On May 16, 2011 Detective Daniel Sullivan charged Peter Hanvey, age 51, from West Side Avenue in Jersey City, NJ, with Forgery and Obtaining a Controlled Dangerous Substance by Fraud. Hanvey was charged as a result of information provided by Detective Jeff Malone of the Ocean Township Police Department.

Detective Malone had conducted an investigation into a fraudulent prescription that was presented to the C.V.S Pharmacy in Ocean Township. Det. Malone developed information that Hanvey had also passed a fraudulent prescription in the C.V.S Pharmacy located in the Navesink section of Middletown.

Detective Sullivan conducted a follow up investigation which resulted in Hanvey being charged. Hanvey was released on his own recognizance pending a court date.

On May 16, 2011 at approximately 5:35 am Patrolman Brady Carr and Patrolman Keith Hirschbein investigated a report of damage committed to numerous vehicles that occurred at the Eddie Coffey and Sons Construction Company located on Highway 36 in Middletown. The vehicles windows were smashed and tires slashed.


On May 16, 2011 Detective Sullivan was assigned to investigate the theft of a ladder from a residence on Wilson Avenue in Middletown. Detective Sullivan conducted an investigation which resulted in Terrance McQuillan, age 29, from Wilson Avenue in Middletown being charged with Theft.

McQuillan was processed and held on bail.

On May 17, 2011 at approximately 11:20 pm Patrolman Raymond Sofield responded to the area of the New Monmouth Diner, located on Highway 35 in Middletown in reference to an intoxicated subject who had called 9-1-1 numerous times. Officer Sofield located the subject, identified as Stephen Acquaviva, age 34, from Bonnie Drive in Middletown.

Patrolman Sofield determined that Acquaviva did not have an actual emergency and was repeatedly calling 9-1-1 because he was intoxicated. As a result of Officer Sofield’s investigation Acquaviva was arrested for Making False Public Alarms. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on a summons pending a court date.

On May 18, 2011 at approximately 9:50 am Patrolman Keith Hirschbein was on patrol in the area of the McMahon Park hockey rink when he observed a subject, identified as David Matheny, age 49, from Seaside Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, urinating in the dugout area of the rink.

Officer Hirschbein conducted an investigation which resulted in Matheny being arrested for Criminal Mischief. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on a summons pending a court date.

On May 18, 2011 at approximately 3:55 pm Patrolman Anthony Dellatacoma responded to the Sears Store on Highway 35 in reference to a shoplifting. Upon arrival store security advised the officer that they had observed Danielle Boyce, age 35, from Port Monmouth Road in Middletown, leave the store with $287.67 of unpaid merchandise. Security stopped Boyce in the parking lot and detained her until police arrived.

Officer Dellatacoma arrested Boyce and transported her to police headquarters where she was charged with Shoplifting. She was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 18, 2011 at approximately 5:50 am Patrolman John Soltysik and Patrolman Felipe Benedit responded to the area of Twin brooks Drive and Highway 35 in reference to a report of a white box truck that had been involved in the attempted burglary of a vehicle that had occurred in the parking lot of the Sears store.

The officers located the vehicle and conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Bernard Kusakavitch, age 45, from Osborne Drive in Pittston, PA, being charged with Attempted Theft, Conspiracy, Obstruction and Hindering Apprehension. Police determined that Kusakavitch had attempted to steal Diesel fuel from a tractor trailer that was parked in the parking lot.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and held on $40,000 bail. Detective William Strohkirch assisted with the investigation.

On May 19, 2011 at approximately 2:55 am Patrolman Brian McGrogan was on patrol in the area of Highway 35 when he observed a vehicle being driven without headlights. Officer McGrogan stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Christopher Haspilaire, age 21, from Portland Road in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officer McGrogan conducted an investigation which resulted in Hispilaire being arrested for Driving While intoxicated. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 20, 2011 at approximately 3:35 am Corporal Richard Fusella responded to the area of Locust Point Road near the Rumson Bridge in reference to a driver of a vehicle asleep behind the wheel.

Upon arrival Corporal Fusella located the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Alexander Heagney, age 18, from Clay Court in the Locust section of Middletown.

While speaking with Heagney, Officer Fusella observed a baggie of Marijuana in the vehicle. Heagney was placed under arrest and was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Possession of under 50 grams of Marijuana. He was processed and released pending a court date.


The Middletown Police Department arrested the following subjects on warrants:

Lisa Ardic, age 43, from Shore Boulevard in Keansburg, NJ, arrested on May 17, 2011 by Detective Sullivan on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Keansburg Municipal Court. She was released after posting $575.00 bail.

Anthony Jones, age 26, from Veeder Avenue in Toms River, arrested on May 18, 2011 by Patrolman Michael Nolan on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was held on $500.00 bail.

Jeffrey Dressler, age 33, from Locust Road in Hazlet, NJ, arrested on May 18, 2011 arrested by James Beirne on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was released after posting $500.00 bail.

Amanda Rivera, age 30, from Kanes Lane in Middletown, NJ, arrested on May 18, 2011 by Patrolman Nicholas Fenezia on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Tinton Falls Municipal Court.

Dominic Moffitt, age 29, from Kimberly Court in Middletown, NJ arrested on May 19, 2011 by Patrolman James Beirne on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Eatontown Municipal court. He was released after posting $89.00 bail.

Nicholas Grimsley, age 24, from Apple Farm Road, Middletown, NJ, arrested on May 19, 2011 by Patrolman Anthony Gigante on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was released after posting $500.00 bail.

Jonathan Pecyna, age 22, from Manor Drive in Red Bank, NJ, arrested on May 19, 2011 by Patrolman John Mele on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Monmouth Beach Municipal Court. He was released after posting $100.00 bail.

Middletown Police Want You to be SAFE this HALLOWEEN

Halloween, which is celebrated on October 31st, falls on a Monday this year. Middletown’s trick or treating hours will be 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. Please note that an 8:00 p.m. curfew will be in effect for people under the age of 18 on October 30th and October 31st.

“This is a fun time for the community, especially children who will be dressing up and trick-or-treating,” Middletown Police Chief R. Craig Weber said. “While we want everyone to enjoy their evening, we strongly encourage residents to be responsible and consider these safety tips.”

The Centers for Disease Control provides best practices for Halloween trick-or-treaters by asking that people follow the “Safe Halloween” motto.

• Swords, knives and other costume accessories should be short, soft and flexible.
• Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
• Fasten reflective tape on costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
• Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before you eat them.
• Hold a flashlight while walking to ensure that you are visible. Walk and don’t run from house to house.
• Always test make up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent possible skin and eye irritation.
• Lower your risk of serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses.
• Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.
• Only walk on sidewalks wherever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe and to prevent accidents or injury.
• Wear well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls.
• Eat only factory-wrapped candy. Avoid eating homemade treats offered by strangers.
• Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult. Only visit well-lit houses. Don’t accept rides from strangers
• Never walk near lit candles or devices with open flames. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.

Have you been hacked? Find out at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 14th at the Middletown Arts Center located at 36 Church Street. Middletown Township will present a free information session on what it means to be hacked in today's vast electronic world. It's not just about desktop computers anymore. (Please note the February 23rd session is cancelled)

Middletown professionals will discuss modern hacking methods including phone scams and social media invasions. The evening will include discussion of common scams that are happening locally. Learn how to identify and protect yourself from this major epidemic that has become a normal part of our culture.

The session is open to tweens, teenagers and adults. This special program will be presented by the Middletown Police and Information Technology departments.

Got Drugs? Free Medication Disposal Sept. 26 at Police Headquarters

Bring your pills for disposal to Middletown Police Headquarters at 1 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ, 07748. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

May 18, 2015 Middletown Township Committee Meeting

I'm a bit late posting this video the May 18th, Middletown Committee meeting, better late than not at all I suppose. Here's a very brief synopsis of the proceeding:

Two new police chiefs were sworn in and the week was declared as Elks Youth Week. It was also "Mayors For A Day" day where 5 children were selected to be the "Mayor" for the day.

In addition the Committee voted to adopt an ordinance redefining the township LOSAP program rules. Two new bond ordinances were introduced. One was to amend an existing bond ordinance from 2014. The other was to fund this years' capital improvements.





As always, you can download a copy of the Meeting Agenda that contains the discussion items and the proposed resolutions and ordinances that were voted on or presented during the meeting. A box around an item is a link, bringing you further into the document to that resolution or ordinance. At the end of the resolution there will be a link bringing you back to the agenda. Attached to this agenda is also the monthly bill list, so that everyone can see how the Township is spending our tax dollars.

Middletown PBA Local 124 Facebook Post: "...township committee shows little to no thanks at all..."

Actions speak louder than words as they say, and it seems that members of the Middletown Township PBA are tired of all the lip service that they have been receiving from township officials. Take a look at the Facebook post for Middletown Township PBA Local 124 that was placed on the page a little while ago.

According to the post, which has thus far been "liked" by over 250 people and "shared" by nearly 140,  Middletown officials are quick to give "kudos to the police" as long as news outlets are there to publicize the their efforts and accomplishments, while behind closed doors the tune changes.

I believe the police union is in the middle of contract talks with the township. Reading this posting you can't help but get the sense that many officers are frustrated with the proceedings and as a result have displayed the dirty laundry list for others to see.

For the past few years, I have heard from various retirees that have stated much of the same feelings to me that have been expressed in this Facebook post, I'm a little surprised that the level of frustration has finally reached this point and has boiled over into the public domain.

Township employees generally won't speak out against their employer because they're afraid of retaliation, I wonder what kind of effect this will have on others.

I am a police officer in Middletown Township. I am proud of my profession and privileged to work with the many great men and women of The Middletown Twp. Police Department. We work hard for the good people of Middletown. Our efforts have paid off for the residents. According to MONEY Magazine, "Middletown, one of the best places to live." The NJ State Police Uniform Crime Report puts our crime rate at 8.57 incidents per 1000 residents. This number represents a 15% decrease in crime from 2013. This 2014 number is the lowest in 25 years according to past records.

The governing body of Middletown Twp., including Mayor Stephanie Murray, has been using these accomplishments of the police department to show how great it is to live in Middletown. They will put blue lights on in support of the police department... as long as news outlets are there to publicize their support. They will give "kudos to the police," as long as it's printed in the papers. Behind closed doors is a much different story.

They thank their younger newer officers by freezing their pay. Young men and women are buying Middletown homes and starting families in the very same communities they protect. Many newer officers have chosen to flee the township and go south and east where home prices are cheaper. They thank us by not honoring our contract during negotiations. They choose the costly route of interest arbitration instead of continuing civil negotiations. They look at us with contempt. They ignore offers to save the township hundreds of thousands of dollars. The PBA has offered minimal raises, longevity freezes, retirement payout caps and has an open mind about implementing a more cost affective health care plan. They forget that we chose to pay into our health care years before it was mandated by state law.

They want to take all the benefits away from the current and future officers of this township. Mayor Murray could care less if Middletown Police Department turns into a revolving door of new officers every year. These benefits are as small as a space for a gym; a gym that is maintained by the members of PBA 124. They thank us by refusing to pay officers salaries but have no issues giving themselves 20% raises outside the 2% cap police officers are held to by the state legislature. They pour money into fields that aren't used and enormous "smart boards" for their conference room. However they can't pay the salaries of the officers that constantly make sacrifices for them and the town.

We drive patrol vehicles that have well over 100k miles on them. We dress in a locker room that will flood with the smallest rain storm. We have roll call in a room that is smeared with dirt, broken windows, and lights that house more dead bugs then light itself. Our cars are filled with equipment that is broken, missing or never made available.

Truth be told, our township committee shows little to no thanks at all. So I wish to truly thank the officers of Middletown Township for their consistent sacrifices. As for the residents, know that we keep vigilant and give them the protection they deserve. As for as our leadership... You're welcome.

For the record, I fully support Middletown's "men and women in blue". They deserve more than lip service from the township and our elected  officials. There's no reason why we can't pay them and support them enough to keep them working and living in the town they protect.

 

Fireworks & Sky Lanterns Are Dangerous & Illegal in New Jersey

As the community gets ready for a long July 4th weekend, the Middletown Police Department and Township Fire Official reminds all township residents and store owners that the possession, sale and use of fireworks and sky lanterns is unlawful.

New Jersey’s Laws on Fireworks, N.J.S.A. 21:2-1 et seq., and N.J.S.A. 21:3-1 et seq., are very restrictive. In New Jersey, only paper or plastic caps for use in toy guns are legal. Fireworks such as firecrackers, roman candles, rockets are all illegal in New Jersey as well as sparklers and novelty items, such as cigarette loads, trick matches, trick noise makers, smoke grenades, toy propellants, snaps & pops, poppetts and champagne poppers.

Sky lanterns, also known as wish lanterns, are airborne paper lanterns that are constructed of oiled rice paper on a bamboo frame and contain a small candle or fuel cell composed of a waxy flammable material. When lit, the flame heats the air inside the lantern causing it to rise into the air. The lanterns are known to travel great distances and are considered to be a fire hazard under N.J.A.C 5:70-3, 308.3.2. They can land on buildings, trees and cause fires.

Residents with information concerning the use or sale of fireworks and sky lanterns are encouraged to report them to the Middletown Township Police Department 732-615-2100. Any person found using fireworks illegally can be fined up to $500 and/or imprisoned for up to 30 days. The law further states that the sale or possession of fireworks, with intent to sell, is a crime of the fourth degree. Any person found guilty of possessing fireworks, including sparklers, with the intention of selling them, can be fined up to $7,500 and/or imprisoned up to 18 months.

Stay safe this on July 4th this year and every year. Please teach children about the law and hazards regarding fireworks. Questions regarding fireworks and sky lanterns can be directed to the Fire Official at 732-615-2270.

NJ WATCHDOG: 'Heck' of hypocrisy in Christie's call for reform

There's a 'Heck' of hypocrisy in Chris Christie's call for disability pension reform during his State of the State address.

"Our pension system is burdened by some who collect disability retirement because they claim they are 'totally and permanently' disabled, but are now working full-time," said New Jersey's governor, ignoring the problem in his own office.

Adam J. Heck, one of Christie's state lawyers, has collected a $110,000 salary plus nearly $45,000 in tax-free disability retirement checks from the state.

At age 28, Heck retired as a Middletown Township police officer in 1993. He was struck on the hand with a hockey stick while responding to a domestic dispute, according to state pension records.

Heck is one of 18 'disabled' state employees who double-dip $2.2 million a year – $1 million in tax-free accidental disability pay plus $1.2 million in salaries – named in a New Jersey Watchdog investigative report last year.

It is only the tip of what happens in a police disability pension system that pays out $200 million a year. The New Jersey Watchdog report did not encompass pensioners who have returned to work for county or local governments – or the private sector – while collecting benefits for not being able to work.

Thankfully I Didn't Over React When An Autistic Kid Wondered Into My Home

Earlier this morning, I was sitting all by myself in my office surfing the web, my had just walked out the door for school. No sooner does he walk out the door, someone grabs the mail out of the mailbox and walks into the house.

I'm not thinking much about it, I figure it was my wife coming home early from her Weight Watchers meeting. When I call out her name and got no response other than some heavy breathing (could I be getting lucky? Ha ha, I thought), I walked out of my office to see a really BIG KID wearing sweats with no shoes or socks on, wondering around the house!

I notice right away that this kid had some kind of problem and recognized it as autism I asked him his name and if he lived in the area, when I didn't get a response I dialed 911.

After following this poor kid around my house, upstairs and down for what seemed like an eternity but was no more than 5 minutes or so, two Middletown Police officers (who were great and very professional, I wish I would have gotten their names) arrived and started trying to figure out where this kid belonged and who he was.

While trying to figure out this kids identity, he had no identification on him and was non-verbal, a guy comes pounding on my front door. It was the kids father, all out of breath and acting like he was about to go into cardiac arrest.

The father explained that he had left the house for a few minutes with his son safely locked inside to run a quick errand. When he drove by my house on his way back home, he noticed the two police cars outside my house but didn't think anything of it. After returning home however, he noticed the back door to the house open and the backyard gate open to the street. He then ran immediately to my house hoping to all hell that his son was here. Sure enough, he was!

The father was very shaken and apologized profusely. I told him all was good and not to worry, I understood what he was going through since I had an extended family member who suffers from non-verbal autism herself and seeing what her parents went through everyday I understood what he was going through. It took the kids father about 5-10 minutes to get his son out of the house and back on the road to his. I felt bad for the guy.

It was a scary experience and I'm glad that I recognized the kids problem and didn't overreact. I actually think this kid was lucky that he walked into my house and not someone elses. There could have been a totally different outcome if that had happened and the kid, instead of being somewhat docile, had been aggressive or violent. It could have ended tragically.

Thank GOD everything worked out (and my wife wasn't home ).

4th of July Fireworks Message from Middletown Police Chief

Chief Robert Oches, Middletown Township Police Department, is issuing a strong warning to all township residents and store owners that the possession, sale and use of fireworks is unlawful.

New Jersey’s Laws on Fireworks, N.J.S.A. 21:2-1 et seq., and N.J.S.A. 21:3-1 et seq., are very restrictive. In some states fireworks are permitted to be sold to, and used by, the public. However, in New Jersey, only paper or plastic caps for use in toy guns are legal.

Sparklers and novelty items, such as cigarette loads, trick matches, trick noise makers, smoke grenades, toy propellants, snaps & pops, poppetts and champagne poppers, as well as firecrackers, roman candles, rockets, etc., are all illegal in the State of New Jersey. Do not be fooled by a salesperson who tries to tell you that they are authorized to be sold by the Consumer Products Safety Commission, mail order houses, sold in other states, or permitted to be shipped by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

I repeat - the only fireworks that can legally be sold and used in New Jersey are paper and plastic caps for toy cap guns. If you have any doubt when approached by a salesperson, call the Office of Safety Compliance directly at (609) 292-2096 for verification.

The Fireworks Laws are jointly enforced by municipalities and The New Jersey Department of Labor. The law states that the sale or possession of fireworks, with intent to sell, is a crime of the fourth degree. Any person found guilty of possessing fireworks, including sparklers, with the intention of selling them, can be fined up to $7,500 and/or imprisoned up to 18 months. Any person found using fireworks illegally can be fined up to $500 and/or imprisoned for up to 30 days.

Volunteers Needed Domestic Violence Response Team

Middletown Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers to serve on the Middletown Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT). In affiliation with 180 Turning Lives Around (180), and with the assistance of the response team volunteers, Middletown Police Department continues to make available this service to victims of domestic violence during the initial stages of a highly emotional and traumatic experience. 180 will be conducting an intensive 40-hour mandatory training course for Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) volunteers April 22nd – May 16th, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 6:00pm-9:30pm, in the courtroom at Hazlet Police Headquarters, 255 Middle Road in Hazlet. Applications are currently being accepted.

The volunteer advocates with 180’s DVRT Program are civilian members of the community who work collaboratively with law enforcement to provide support, information, and referrals to victims of domestic violence at Middletown Police Headquarters. Advocates also discuss with victims safety planning and their legal rights in regard to obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order. By providing empathy and crucial perspective of the situation, these highly-trained advocates help to empower victims to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. Read more

Middletown's Discrimination; Law Suits Could Have Been Avoided If Human Rights Commission Were allowed To Do Its Job

To the Editor:

Middletown recently settled a racial harassment discrimination lawsuit by one of its own police officers for $300,000 dollars, of which the town must pay $70,000. The township attorney stated that the officials would be reviewing their discrimination policies and procedures.

There was an earlier sexual harassment settlement by a township employee.

A few years ago, while chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, I experienced disability discrimination by the township. As part of my settlement the township was supposed to review discrimination policies and train employees.

It is way past time for Middletown officials to take serious action to ensure a harassment-free environment for all employees. The logical action would be for the Middletown Human  Rights Commission to help the Township Committee review its discrimination policies and train employees.

But wait, the MHRC has been decimated, reduced to four of the required eleven members and is nearly defunct!  The remaining members have only met once since December.

If the MHRC were  allowed to do its job, these expensive lawsuits and cash settlements could be avoided.

Equipment Permit Fees Waived to Ease Storm Recovery
To ease the burden of storm clean-up, the Township Committee is waiving permit fees for residents who need to repair or replace equipment damaged as a result of Hurricane Irene.

Fees will be waived for permits requested from August 29 through the close of business September 30 to repair and/or replace of service-related equipment such as water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, pumps, and service panels. Under normal circumstances, if a resident removes and replaces any of those items, there's a permit fee to cover the cost of a township inspector who determines if the replacement was installed to code. Meanwhile, the township's emergency brush collection has been underway since September 7. The Township scheduled the collection due the volume of brush generated as a result of the storm. All brush should have been placed curbside by September 6. Residents are reminded not mix leaves with brush. A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has been established in the Leonardo section of Middletown at the Henry Hudson Trail Activity Center, 945 Route 36. The office will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice. County Route 8A, Bingham Avenue , Locust Point Rd over Navesink River

Monmouth County Division of Engineering, in cooperation with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration, will be holding Public Information Centers to discuss the replacement alternatives of Oceanic Bridge (CR 8A, Bingham Avenue – Locust Point Road Bridge S-31) over Navesink River located between the Borough of Rumson and the Township of Middletown. The purpose of the Public Information Center is to inform the public of the alternatives and to solicit public input and comment. These meetings are being conducted in conformance with Federal and State regulations including the Section 106 consultation process. The public is invited and encouraged to comment on the project.

Volunteers Needed for Middletown Domestic Violence Response Team
Middletown Township Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers to serve on the Middletown Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT). In affiliation with 180 Turning Lives Around (180), and with the assistance of the response team volunteers, Middletown Township Police Department continues to make available this service to victims of domestic violence. Applications are available now and interviews will begin shortly.

The volunteer advocates with 180's DVRT program are civilian memberof the community who work in collaboration with the police to provide crisis intervention and safety planning to victims of domestic violence at police headquarters. The specially-trained advocates also discuss with the victim their legal rights in regard to obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order. The volunteer advocates help to empower victims to make decisions about their own lives. The identities of the DVRT volunteers are kept anonymous.

The 40-hour intensive, mandatory training course will be provided to successful applicants at no cost. 180 will be conducting the next four-week training October 24th – November 16th, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, 6:00p-9:30p, in the courtroom at Tinton Falls Borough Hall, 556 Tinton Avenue. Prior knowledge of domestic violence is not required. The services of the Middletown Domestic Violence Response Team are available to victims, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week at Middletown Township Police Department headquarters, 1 Kings Highway, Middletown NJ 07748

Basic requirements for volunteers to apply include that applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver's license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, participate in an interview process, submit to background investigations and fingerprinting, and successfully complete the mandatory training. Crime Scene Middletown: Busy 5 Days For Middletown Police Numerous DWI's and Summertime Juvenile Arrests For The Week 3rd - August 7th, 2011

ISSUED Tuesday, August 8th, 2011 - Arrests do not indicate convictions

On August 7, 2011 at approximately 12:25 am Patrolman Christian Clark responded to the Comfort Inn parking lot in reference to an accident involving a parked car. Upon arrival Officer Clark found the driver of a vehicle, identified as Robert Waters, age 51, from Heron Avenue in Pennsville, NJ, asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle which had struck a parked car.

Officer Clark conducted an investigation which resulted in Waters being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 7, 2011 at approximately 1:25 am Sgt. John Werner was on patrol in the area of Leonardville Road when he observed a vehicle travelling in front of him that was weaving in and out of its lane. Sgt. Werner stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as a 17 year old male juvenile from Manymind Avenue in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, at which point he detected an odor of raw Marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Sgt. Werner conducted an investigation and located Marijuana and a grinder, a device used to process Marijuana, inside the vehicle. The officer continued his investigation which resulted in the 17 year old juvenile being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released to his mother pending a court date.

On August 7, 2011 at approximately 3:45 am Corporal Ralph Flannigan was on patrol in the area of Middletown Lincroft Road when he observed a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road. Officer Flannigan stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Jose Perez, age 42, from Altamont Road in Edison, NJ, and determined that he had been drinking.

Officer Flannigan continued his investigation which resulted in Perez being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 6, 2011 at approximately 3:45 am Patrolman James Beirne and Patrolman Albert Scott responded to the WAWA store in reference to a report of two suspicious people in the parking lot. Upon arrival the officers located the subjects standing near a vehicle. The officers approached the two subjects and conducted an investigation.

The officers determined that there was an outstanding Non-Support warrant issued by the Monmouth County Superior Court for one of the subjects, identified as Gregory Guido, age 49, from Bray Avenue in Middletown. The officers placed Guido under arrest.

While conducting the investigation, the second subject, identified as Lynn Moretti, age 39, from Ocean Avenue in Middletown, NJ, began to yell obscenities at the officers. After she refused to calm down the officers placed her under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters for processing.

Moretti was released pending a court date and Guido was held on $67,673.01 bail.

On August 6, 2011 at approximately 8:50 pm Patrolman Ian May responded to the Foodtown Store in reference to a report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival Officer May was advised by the store manager that he had observed the suspect, identified as James Quirk, age 53, from Pineview Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, place a bottle of Vodka and a can of beer inside a backpack and walk out of the store. The manager stopped Quirk and detained him until the police arrived.

Patrolman May arrested Quirk for Shoplifting and transported him to police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters Officer May located an outstanding Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Court for Quirk’s arrest. He was processed and released after posting $250.00 bail.

On August 6, 2011 at approximately 7:35 am Patrolman Christian Clark was on patrol in the area of Highway 35 near Navesink River Road when he observed a vehicle make an illegal turn through the barrier. Officer Clark stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Christopher Hordeman, age 24, from Manfre Court in Freehold, NJ, at which point he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officer Clark conducted an investigation which resulted in Hordeman being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 6, 2011 at approximately 11:00 pm Patrolman Felipe Benedit responded to the area of McClees Road in reference to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a car that crashed into a utility police. Upon arrival Officer Benedit located the driver, identified as Candace Ronan, age 22, from Willis Place in Red Bank, NJ, at which point he suspected she may have been operating her vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The officer continued his investigation which resulted in Ronan being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 5, 2011 at approximately 9:10 pm Patrolman Christian Clark was on patrol in the area of Highway 36 in the Navesink section of Middletown when he observed a vehicle pull out of the A&P Shopping Center and begin travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic. The officer observed the vehicle almost strike another car head on.

Officer Clark was able to stop the vehicle near Valley Drive and approached the driver, identified as Eileen Gaestel, age 56, from East Avenue in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, at which point he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath.

Officer Clark continued his investigation which resulted in Gaestel being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 5, 2011 at approximately 1:45 am Patrolman Thomas Meckier responded to a motor vehicle accident on Murphy Road. Upon arrival the officer located a vehicle lying on its side. The officer located the driver, identified as Robert Brandow, age 20, from Kenneth Terrace East in Middletown, NJ, inside the vehicle at which point he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officer Meckier conducted an investigation which resulted in Brandow being arrested Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Possession of Alcohol Underage. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 5, 2011 at approximately 12:30 am Patrolman Raymond Sofield conducted a motor vehicle stop on Delaware Avenue during which he arrested Joseph Defiglia, age 33, from Delaware Avenue in Middletown, NJ, on a warrant for Robbery which was issued after an incident that occurred at the Sears Store located on Highway 35 on July 29, 2011.

Police say Defiglia had entered the Sears store, loaded a shopping cart full of merchandize and then attempted to leave the store without paying. Store security tried to stop Defiglia at which point he pushed the shopping cart into the security officer causing a minor injury to his ribs and then fled the area.

Defiglia was charged with Robbery and Shoplifting. He was held pending bail.

On August 5, 2011 at approximately 9:50 am Patrolman Jason Caruso and Patrolman Donald Coates of the Quality of Life Unit and Detective Lieutenant Stephen Dollinger conducted an investigation into the alleged sale of narcotics from a residence on Birchwood Lane.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of Jesse Ballard, age 20, from Birchwood Lane in Middletown, NJ, for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana after police conducted a consent to search in his room at the residence.

Ballard was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 4, 2011 at approximately 8:20 pm Police Officer Lisa Vreeland responded to the Stafford Tire Store located on Highway 35 in reference to a report of trespassers. Upon arrival the officer located two juveniles sitting in a boat located on the property.

Officer Vreeland conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrests of two 16 year old male juveniles, both from Middletown, for Defiant Trespass. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters for processing and were released to their guardians pending a court date.

On August 4, 2011 at approximately 7:00 pm Patrolman Jason Caruso and Patrolman Donald Coates of the Quality of Life Unit were on patrol in the area of McMahon Park when they observed a vehicle parked near the hockey rink. The officers approached the vehicle at which point they observed one of the occupants, identified as Tara Maier, age 18, from Washington Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, attempt to place a Marijuana grinder, a device used to process Marijuana for smoking, inside the waistband of her pants. The officers also observed Marijuana in a door compartment in plain view.

The officers continued their investigation which resulted in the arrests of Maier and Nicole-Lynn Souza, age 28, from Pineview Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released pending a court date.

On August 4, 2011 at approximately 9:30 pm Patrolman Donald Coates and Patrolman Jason Caruso of the Quality of Life Unit were on patrol in the area of Church Street in Belford when they observed an occupant of a vehicle throw a cigarette out the window. The officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and approached the vehicle at which point they detected an odor of burnt Marijuana coming from inside the car.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in the driver, identified as Justin Damico, age 19, from Evergreen Street in Spotswood, NJ, being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and was issued an additonal summons for littering. He was released pending a court date.

On August 4, 2011 at approximately 3:10 am Patrolman Robert Shannon responded to the area of West Front Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle accident during which a vehicle rolled over and struck a utility pole. Upon arrival the officer located the driver, identified as James Steele, age 26, from Walling Avenue in Belford, NJ, sitting on the ground. The officer approached Steele at which point he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

The officer conducted an investigation which resulted in Steele being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 4, 2011 at approximately 2:10 am Patrolman Richard Fulham was on patrol in the area of Highway 36 when he observed a vehicle weaving in its lane and failing to signal a turn. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and approached the driver, identified as Samson Hearn, age 29, from Maple Avenue in Fair Haven, NJ, at which point he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

The officer conducted an investigation which resulted in Hearn being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 3, 2011 at approximately 7:05 pm Patrolman Michael Pintilie and Patrolman Anthony Dellatacoma responded to a report of a shoplifting at the Staples Store located on Highway 35. While in route to the store a description of the vehicle used in the shoplifting was given out to responding officers. Officer Dellatacoma spotted the vehicle on Palmer Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in the driver of the car, identified as Tracy Kiernan, age 31, from Avenue A in Keansburg, NJ, being arrested for Shoplifting. The officers continued their investigation and discovered the vehicle contained merchandise that was also stolen from a store in Holmdel and Suboxene Pills which the suspect did not have a prescription for.

Kiernan was transported to police headquarters where she was charged with Shoplifting and Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Legend Drug. She was held on $1,500.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Richard Thompson.

On August 3, 2011 at approximately 4:35 PM Patrolman Donald Coates and Patrolman Jason Caruso of the Quality of Life Unit were on patrol in the area of the McMahon Park Hockey Ring when they observed a subject sitting in one of the dug-outs.

The officers approached the subject, identified as a 17 year old male juvenile from Morningside Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, and observed Marijuana on his lap. The officers arrested the juvenile and transported him to police headquarters where he was charged with Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 3, 2011 at approximately 4:50 am Patrolman James Beirne and Patrolman Richard Fulham were on patrol in the area of the 7-11 store located on Highway 35 when he stopped a vehicle for having a rear light out. The officers approached the vehicle at which point they observed a clear plastic baggie containing Marijuana on the rear floor in plain view.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Armand Lecomte, age 24, from Wickersham Lane in Austin, Texas, being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On August 2, 2011 at approximately 1:45 pm Patrolman Keith Hirschbein was on patrol in the area of the Henry Hudson Trail when he observed a group of juveniles sitting on a bench. The officer walked towards the group at which point he observed one of the juveniles, identified as a 17 year old male from Hudson Avenue in Middletown, NJ, attempt to hide a bottle of Vodka and a clear plastic baggie containing Marijuana under a table.

Officer Hirscbein retrieved the bag and conducted an investigation which resulted in the juvenile being arrested Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Underage Possession of Alcohol. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released to his mother pending a court date.

On August 2, 2011 at approximately 3:50 am Patrolman John Soltysik and Patrolman David Crenshaw responded to the area of Seabreeze Avenue in reference to a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival the officers were conducting an investigation when one of the suspects, identified as Luis Ramirez, age 44, from Seabreeze Avenue in Middletown, NJ, began to yell and scream. The officers issued numerous warnings to Ramirez to calm down.

The officers continued their investigation and determined there were numerous outstanding Contempt of Court warrants from various municipal courts for Ramirez’s arrest. The officers attempted to place him under arrest at which point he began to fight with the officers and spit on them. The officers were able to take him into custody after a brief struggle.

Ramirez was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Aggravated Assault on Police Officers, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing the Administration of Law, Throwing Bodily Fluids at a Law Enforcement Officer, Terroristic Threats and Contempt of Court. He was being held on $25,000.00 with no 10% option.

Roberto Ramirez, age 27, arrested on August 3, 2011 by Patrolman Darrin Simon on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was released after posting $300.00 bail.

Lindsey Nadolny, age 22, from Main Street in Belford, NJ, arrested on August 2, 2011 by Patrolman Thomas Russo on a Contempt of Court warrant. She was released after posting $89.00 bail.

Rashon Martin, age 22, from Brainard Avenue in Port Monmouth, NJ, arrested on August 2, 2011 by Patrolman Keith Hirschbein on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was released after posting $689.00 bail.

On August 2, 2011 Patrolman Brian Dilworth arrested a 16 year old from Valley Drive in Navesink, NJ, for Simple Assault and Resisting Arrest. She was released pending a court date.

Crime Scene Middletown: Man Arrested On Multiple Warrants, Roller Blader Attacked and Other Recent Activity August 2nd - July 31

On August 2, 2011 at approximately 2:20 am Patrolman Anthony Gigante and Patrolman Brian Dilworth responded to the area of New Monmouth Road in reference to a report of three subjects who had just damaged property at a residence. The officers located three subjects fitting the description provided by the victim a short distance from the residence.

The officers approached the group at which point one of the suspects began to run from the area. Patrolman Gigante chased the suspect, identified as Dylan Zimmerman, age 19, from Monmouth Avenue in Leonardo, NJ, and was able to apprehend him in a wooded area a few blocks away. Zimmerman was searched incident to the arrest and a lock blade knife was found in his pocket.

The other two suspects, identified as Brendan Campbell, age 18, from Kelvin Avenue in Leonardo, NJ and Jamie Ippolito, age 18, from Poricy Lane in Middletown, NJ, were also taken into custody.

Zimmerman was charged with Criminal Mischief, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing the Administration of Law, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. He was held pending bail. Campbell was charged with Criminal Mischief, Obstructing the Administration of Law and Hindering Apprehension. He was held pending bail. Ippolito was charged with Criminal Mischief and Disorderly Conduct. She was also held pending bail.

On August 1, 2011 at approximately 5:40 pm Patrolman Jason Caruso and Patrolman Donald Coates of the Quality of Life Unit attempted to serve arrest warrants at a residence on Baldwin Avenue for a suspect, identified as Joseph Porter, age 49, from Baldwin Avenue in Middletown, NJ. Porter was wanted on Contempt of Court warrants issued by the Middletown, Keyport and Lakehurst Municipal Courts, a warrant issued by the Monmouth County Superior Court and a Fugitive Warrant issued by the State of Florida.

Upon arrival the officers identified themselves as police officers at which point Porter began to run from the officers. The officers chased him on foot and were able to apprehend him in a backyard of a nearby residence. He was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with the additional offense of Obstructing the Administration of Law.
He was being held on $165,271.00 bail.

On August 1, 2011 at approximately 10:20 pm Patrolman Brian Dilworth was on patrol in the area of Beacon Hill Road when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road. The officer approached the vehicle at which point he detected a strong odor of burnt Marijuana coming from inside the car.

The officer conducted an investigation which resulted in the recovery of two pipes used to smoke Marijuana and a grinder used to process Marijuana inside the car. Patrolman Dilworth also located a bag of Marijuana on a rear seat passenger, identified as Thomas Brophy, age 23, from Bingham Avenue in Rumson, NJ.

Brophy was placed under arrest and was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 29, 2011 at approximately 5:15 pm Patrolman Jason Caruso and Patrolman Donald Coates of the Quality of Life Unit were on patrol in the area of Tindall Road when they stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain a lane of travel. The officers approached the driver, identified as Steven Szot, age 34, from Kimberly Court in Middletown, to obtain his driving credentials. While Szot was looking for his license the officers observed a cellophane wrapper containing pills in plain view in the car.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Szot being arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Xanax and Oxycodone. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and held on $3,000.00 set by Judge Richard Thompson.

On July 31, 2011 at approximately 1:00 am Patrolman Stephen Greenwood responded to the area of Brandywine Way in reference to a report of an assault that had just occurred. Upon arrival the officer was advised by the victim that he was roller blading home from a friend’s house when a vehicle drove by and yelled obscenities at him. The vehicle then drove up to him at which point three male subjects exited the vehicle, knocked him to the ground and began striking him in the head and face.

The victim provided the officer with a description of the vehicle and suspects, which was then broadcasted to other patrol units in the area. The vehicle was located a short distance away. Officer Greenwood conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrests of Frankie Terracciano, age 18, from Moran Place in Keansburg, NJ, Edward Stoop, age 19, from Moran Place in Keansburg, NJ, and Robert Backovsky, age 20, from Pinehurst Avenue in Port Monmouth, NJ, for Simple Assault.

All three subjects were transported to headquarters where they were processed and released pending a court date.

Crime Scene Middletown: 11 Year Old Fondled In The Candy Isle Of Store and Other Recent Activity 7/25-7/29

On July 28, 2011 at approximately 9:00 pm Patrolman Jason Caruso and Patrolman Donald Coates were on patrol in the area of the Henry Hudson Trail when they observed two juveniles holding cans of beer.

The officers approached the two subjects and conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrests of a 16 year old male juvenile from Keyport, NJ, and a 17 year old male juvenile from Keansburg, NJ, being arrested for Underage Possession of Alcohol. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released to their guardians pending a court date.

On July 29, 2011 at approximately 1:45 am Patrolman Keith Hirschbein responded to the area of the WAWA store located on Highway 36 in reference to a report of a vehicle that was being operated in an erratic manner and struck several curbs.

Upon arrival the officer observed the vehicle almost strike a group of people standing in the parking lot. Officer Hirschbein stopped the vehicle and approached the driver identified as Charles Chapman, age 43, from Monmouth Avenue in Leonardo, NJ, at which point he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officer Hirschbein conducted an investigation which resulted in Chapman being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 28, 2011 at approximately 10:30 pm Patrolman James Beirne was on patrol in the area of Port Monmouth Road when he observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The officer stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigation which resulted in the driver, identified as Michael Durnin, age 42, from Port Monmouth Road in Keansburg, NJ and the passenger, identified as Doreen Durnin, age 44, from Morningside Avenue in Keansburg, NJ being arrested.

Michael Durnin was charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Doreen Durnin was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle. She was also charged with Contempt of Court after police found an outstanding warrant issued by the Keansburg Municipal Court for her arrest. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters where they were held on bail.

On July 28, 2011 at approximately 4:45 pm Patrolman Jason Carsuo and Patrolman Donald Coates were on patrol in the area of the Outback Steak House when they observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot. The officers approached the vehicle and began to conduct an investigation at which point a subject, identified as Corey Blascak, age 19, from Ironwood Court in Middletown, NJ, walked towards the officers.

The officers begin speaking with Blascak when he began to run from the area. The officers chased him on foot and were able to apprehend him a short distance away. He was charged with Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Obstructing the Administration of Law and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after police located Marijuana in his backpack.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 27, 2011 at approximately 8:55 pm Patrolman Raymond Sofield and Patrolman James Beirne responded to the Bottle King Liquor Store in reference to two subjects who were attempting to purchase alcohol underage. Upon arrival the store manager advised the officers that Timothy Dugan, age 19, from McCutcheon Court in Middletown, NJ, and Sarah Binstok, age 18, from Bonwit Road in Ryebrook, NY, attempted to purchase beer by providing a fake Ohio driver’s license. The clerk recognized the license as a fake and contacted the police.

Both subjects were transported to police headquarters where they were charged with Attempting to Purchase Alcohol Underage. They were processed and released pending a court date.

On July 27, 2011 at approximately 3:15 pm Patrolman Ryan Riffert responded to the area of East Road and Railroad Avenue in reference to a report of a male subject approaching pedestrians and vehicles asking for money and cigarettes.

Upon arrival the officer located Arthur Tanskiy, age 21, from Alta Vista Court in Holmdel, NJ, approaching a vehicle. The officer stopped Tanskiy and conducted an investigation during which the officer located two Alprazolam pills in his possession.

Tanskiy was placed under arrested and was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed and held on $5,000.00 bail.

On July 26, 2011 Detective Kimberly Best arrested Divyeshkumar Rana, age 31, from Charles Street in Jersey City, NJ, for Sexual Assault, Criminal Sexual Contact and False Information to a Police Officer. Police say Rana was an employee of the Bray Avenue Deli on July 18, 2011 when he confronted an eleven year old female customer of the store.

Rana reportedly told the girl that he wanted to show her a new type of candy and is accused of fondling her buttocks once in the candy isle. Rana also provided the police with a false name during the investigation. He was processed and released after posting $50,000.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Richard English.

On July 26, 2011 at approximately 7:30 am Corporal James Keenan was dispatched to a “road rage” incident that was taking place in the Navesink section of Middletown. The victim called police headquarters and was reporting being chased by another subject in a vehicle. Officer Keenan was able to locate the vehicles on Monmouth Avenue.

Corporal Keenan began to conduct an investigation when one of the driver’s, identified as Michael Keller, age 45, from Marcellus Avenue in Manasquan, NJ, started to threaten the victim at which point Officer Keenan placed him under arrest.

Corporal Keenan continued his investigation and determined the victim had been travelling on the Garden State Parkway and Keller was travelling behind the victim’s car flashing his headlights in an attempt to have the victim pull over. The victim let Keller pass at which point Keller reportedly pulled out an identification and stated he was from the State Police and signaled the victim to pull over.

The victim continued to drive and called the police. Keller was charged with Terroristic Threats, False Imprisonment, Impersonating a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and held on $10,000.00 bail. Police report Keller has no affiliation to the State Police.

On July 25, 2011 at approximately 5:20 pm Corporal Douglas Wiatrak responded to the Stop and Shop Store in reference to a report of an employee theft. Upon arrival store security advised the officer that they determined the employee, identified as Sandra Michaels, age 28, from Vernon Street in Oakhurst, NJ, had stolen $1,197.69 over a two month period.

Security advised Corporal Wiatrak that Michaels would make fraudulent refunds and coupon orders and then keep the cash. Michaels was arrested and was transported to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with Shoplifting and Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs after Officer Wiatrak found Hydrocodone pills on her at the time of her arrest.

She was released pending a court date.

On July 25, 2011 at approximately 5:00 pm Patrolman Keith Hirschbein was on patrol when he observed a subject, identified as Vaughn Cosby, age 25, from Oakland Avenue in the Navesink section of Middletown, walking in the street.

Officer Hirschbein was aware that there was an outstanding Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court for Cosby’s arrest. Officer Hirschbein took Cosby into custody and conducted a search incident to the arrest at which point he located 2 bags of Heroin in Cosby’s pocket.

Cosby was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Contempt of Court and Possession of Heroin. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 26, 2011 at approximately 9:15 pm Patrolman Frank Mazza was conducting a foot patrol in the Leonardo Beach when he observed a group of juveniles sitting on a bench. The officer approached the group and observed one of the juveniles attempt to hide a bottle of Bacardi Rum.

The officer conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of a 17 year old male juvenile from Washington Avenue in Leonardo being arrested for Underage Possession of Alcohol. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released to his father pending a court date.

Crime Scene Middletown: Burglary Suspect Apprehended,Employee Theft, Shoplifters Litter Roadway With Stolen Goods And Other Recent Activity

ISSUED Monday, JULY 25TH, 2011 - Arrests do not indicate convictions

On July 21, 2011 at approximately 1:25 pm Patrolman Raymond Sofield responded to the area of Atlantic Avenue to assist the Keansburg Police Department search for a suspect wanted for committing a burglary in Keansburg during which jewelry and a handgun were stolen. Officer Sofeild and officers from the Keansburg Police Department located the suspect, identified as Joseph Lynch, age 25, from Atlantic Avenue in Middletown, at his residence.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Lynch being arrested for Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. Police located the stolen handgun and jewelry at his residence at the time of the arrest.

Lynch was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and bail was set at $55,000.00 with a 10% option on the Middletown charges. Lynch also faces charges in Keansburg.

On July 21, 2011 at approximately 12:20 pm Patrolman Donald Coates and Patrolman Jason Caruso were on patrol in the area of Navesink Avenue when they stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver when they observed a baggie containing Marijuana and a cigar used to smoke Marijuana in plain view in the car. The officers continued their investigation which resulted in the arrests of Shannon Bell, age 20, from Palmer Avenue in Belford, NJ; Anthony McDonnell, age 21, from Port Monmouth Road in Middletown and a 15 year old male juvenile also from Port Monmouth Road in Middletown being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All three subjects were transported to police headquarters for processing. The juvenile was released to his guardian and McDonnell and Bell were released pending a court date.

On July 22, 2011 at approximately 1:36pm Corporal James Keenan responded to the Target Store in reference to a report of an employee theft. Upon arrival the officer was advised by store security that they had observed an employee, identified as Jennifer Digeso, age 29, from Beachway Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, ring several transactions into the cash register and then void them and pocket the cash.

Officer Keenan conducted an investigation which resulted in Digeso being arrested for theft. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 24, 2011 at approximately 5:05 pm Officer Lisa Vreeland responded to the Shoprite store in reference to a report of a shoplifting. Upon arrival the officer was advised by the store manager that two men had entered the store and then left with a basket full of merchandise. The men reportedly entered a car and attempted to leave the parking lot when their car struck another vehicle.

The manager attempted to approach the vehicle at this time but the vehicle fled the area. The store manager followed the vehicle in his car and discovered the suspects threw the stolen items out of the vehicle. He was able to obtain a plate number for the car which he then provided to the police.

Officer Vreeland located the suspects and conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrests of Robert Newell, age 40, form Kenwood Drive in Middletown and Thomas Scott, age 40, from Atlantic Avenue in Long Branch, NJ, for Shoplifting and Conspiracy. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and were being held on $10,000.00 bail set by Judge James Berube.

On July 24, 2011 at approximately 3:00 am Patrolman Charles Higgins was on patrol in the area of Highway 36 and Church Street when he stopped a vehicle for speeding. Officer Higgins approached the driver, identified as Albin Wicki, age 21, from Third Street in Union Beach, NJ, at which point he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officer Higgins conducted an investigation which resulted in Wicki being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Speeding. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 15, 2011 at approximately 11:10 pm Patrolman Antonio Ciccone responded to the area of Navesink River Road in reference to a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival Officer Ciccone was conducting his investigation when he observed a glass pipe used to smoke Marijuana and a prescription bottle containing Marijuana in plain view inside the car.

Officer Ciccone continued his investigation which resulted in the driver, identified as Charles Blasi, age 20, from Autumn Terrace in Holmdel, NJ, being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On July 19, 2011 at approximately 7:30 pm Patrolman Jason Caruso and Patrolman Donald Coates were on patrol in the area of the Outback Steak House located on Highway 35 when they observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. The officers approached the driver, identified as Joseph Thacke, age 48, from Blossom Circle in Middletown, NJ, at which point they detected an odor of burnt Marijuana coming from inside the car.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Thacke being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The officers also discovered an outstanding Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court for Thacke’s arrest.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released after posting $239.00 bail.

On July 20, 2011 at approximately 9:40 pm Patrolman Michael Reuter responded to the Bottle King Liquor store in reference to a report of an underage subject trying to purchase alcohol with a fake identification. Upon arrival the officer was advised by the store manager that a female, identified as Claudia Morozova, age 18, from Chaser Court in Holmdel, NJ, presented a fake driver’s license in an attempt to purchase alcohol. The manager recognized the license as being a fake and contacted police.

Morozova was placed under arrest and was transported to police headquarters where she was charged with Attempting to Purchase Alcohol Underage. She was processed and released pending a court date.

Danielle Williams, age 24, from Hudson Avenue in Middletown, NJ, arrested on July 20, 2011 by Patrolman Brian Dilworth on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Keansburg Municipal Court. She was released after posting $350.00 bail.

Stevens Guilmeus, age 20, from First Avenue in Asbury Park, NJ, arrested on July 21, 2011 by Patrolman Albert Scott on a Contempt of Court warrant. He was released after posting bail.
On July 19, 2011 Patrolman James Beirne arrested a 16 year old female from Middletown, NJ, for Disorderly Conduct, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful purpose and Obstructing the Administration of Law. She was being held at the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center in New Brunswick.

Daniel Gibbons, age 36, from 13th Avenue in Belmar, NJ, arrested on July 19, 2011 by Patrolman Michael Pintilie on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was released after posting $1,000.00 bail.

Heat Wave Driving High Water Demands in Monmouth County
NJ American Water requests that customers curtail water use

As a stretch of hot, dry weather makes its way to the East Coast, New Jersey American Water is reminding its Monmouth County customers to use water wisely, curtail water use, and limit lawn watering to an "odd/even" schedule at most as the company deals with significantly high water demands.

New Jersey American Water has – since the beginning of the summer season – requested that customers use a schedule of an odd/even outdoor watering and not water lawns daily.

"In the next several days, the temperatures and heat index are expected to reach extremely high levels and there appears to be little chance of sustained rainfall," said Steve Tambini, New Jersey American Water's vice president of operations. "During extended periods of hot and dry weather such as this, water use increases significantly, especially outdoors. In order to ensure that New Jersey American Water is able to continue to deliver reliable water service, we are requesting that customers use water wisely both inside and outside the home."

The suggested odd/even outdoor water use schedule works as follows:

• Watering your lawn or garden should occur on odd days of the month if your street address is an odd number (i.e., 23 Oak St., 7 Maple Ave.)
• Watering your lawn or garden should occur on even days of the month if your street address is an even number (i.e., 6 Oak St., 354 Maple Ave.)
• It is also suggested that watering of lawns be done early or late to minimize evaporation, typically between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The above suggestions would NOT apply to:

• Watering of sod or newly seeded lawns if daily watering is required (note: it is recommended that any planting of new sod or seed that has not already taken place be delayed until the fall)
• Use of private wells for lawn irrigation
• Commercial uses of outdoor water, such as for nurseries, farm stands, power washing, plumbing, and commercial car washes
• Watering of athletic fields

While New Jersey American Water is encouraging efficient outdoor water use at this time, if water demands continue to significantly increase or supplies continue to significantly decrease, formal and more strict water restrictions may be needed to ensure continued water service.

Grace Period To Be Extended for 3rd Quarter Tax Bills
Final 2011/Preliminary 2012 tax bills have not yet been mailed due to the delay by the State in certifying municipal state aid figures. We anticipate tax bills being mailed by the end of July with a due date of August 1, however, the ten (10) day grace period will be extended. The last day for payment without interest will be printed on the tax bills. You may also access this information on the website once a date has been set.

Middletown Police Offer Child Safety Seat Checkpoint July 30
The Middletown Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau will offer a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint on Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Police Headquarters, 1 Kings Highway. Police officers trained as child passenger safety technicians will be available to assist motorists with proper child safety seat installation as well as proper positioning and harnessing of a child. Free and open to the public. No appointment necessary. In the event of severe weather, rain dates will be announced. Township Welcomes Newest Auxiliary Officers
The Middletown Township Committee welcomed the newest members of the Police Auxiliary to the ranks at the July meeting. The officers are are Philip Paone, John Mania, Matthew Rabinowitz, Kaitlyn Robertson, John Svenda, Catherine Simplot, Gregory Tiven, and Kevin Toomey.

The Auxiliary Officers are recent graduates of the 45th Middlesex County Basic Auxiliary Police Academy. They will also undergo local training in the Middletown Police Auxiliary Field Training Program.

"On behalf of all the residents of Middletown, we appreciate the effort and hard work you put in to help us. We couldn't do what we do without great volunteers such as you," said Mayor Anthony P. Fiore. He noted the Police Auxiliary Unit donated more than 8,000 hours to assist the community in 2010.

The Middletown Auxiliary Police is a 100% volunteer organization that falls under the direction of the Middletown Office of Emergency Management. An Auxiliary Police Officer performs general law enforcement functions, which includes street patrol, conducting preliminary police investigations, report writing, traffic control, issuance of citations, and other basic law enforcement functions. They are utilized at special events such as parades, and street fairs, and during weather and other emergencies.

Middletown Soccer Club U17G Team Wins State Cup
The Middletown Soccer Club U17 Girls Soccer Team was recognized by the Township Committee at the July meeting for winning the NJ Youth Soccer U17G State Cup. They also won the prestigious JAGS Invitational, and were semi-finalists in the equally prestigious Needham College Showcase in Boston, Mass. The team has been together since 2003. They've competed in tournaments/leagues throughout the years in New Jersey New York, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. The team has been ranked in the NJ top 20 for 3 consecutive years 2009, 2010, and 2011. They won the NJ State Cup Semi-finalist in 2010. Go Team!
