On October 2, 2011 at approximately 2:10 am Patrolman James Beirne was on patrol in the area of Twinbrooks Drive when he stopped a vehicle for committing multiple moving violations. The officer approached the driver, identified as Joseph Lepkoski, age 20, from Gillville Lane in Middletown, NJ, at which point he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officer Beirne conducted an investigation which resulted in Lepkoski being arrested for Underage Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On September 30, 2011 at approximately 7:05 pm Corporal Douglas Wiatrak responded to the area of Main Street in Port Monmouth in reference to a report of a possible drug transaction that was taking place in a motor vehicle. Officer Wiatrak located the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Richard Weber, age 41, from Church Street in Belford, NJ.

The officer conducted an investigation which resulted in the recovery of a grinder, which is a device used to prepare narcotics for ingestion and Endocet pills. Weber was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Illegal Possession of a Prescription Medication. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on $1,500.00 set by Judge Richard Thompson.

On September 30, 2011 at approximately 5:30 pm Patrolman Ryan Riffert and Officer Janine Kennedy responded to the area of Center Avenue in reference to a report of an intoxicated subject who was threatening people. Upon arrival the officers located the subject, identified as William Heller, age 42, from Center Avenue in Middletown, NJ, who was extremely intoxicated.

The officers conducted an investigation during which Heller began yelling obscenities at people in the area. Heller was then arrested for Disorderly Conduct and was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On September 29, 2011 at approximately 2:25 am Corporal Ralph Flannigan and Patrolman Donald Coates were on patrol in the area of Port Monmouth Road when they stopped a vehicle for committing multiple moving violations. The officer approached the driver, identified as Margaret Ricchiuti, age 50, from Shore Haven Road in Hazlet, NJ, at which point they detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the car.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Ricchiuti being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

On September 29, 2011 at approximately 10:25 am Patrolman Jason Caruso and Corporal Gerald Weimer responded to the area of Church Street in reference to a report of a burglary in progress. The police desk had received a call from a witness who reported seeing three juveniles attempting to gain entry into a residence. The witness provided the dispatcher with descriptions of all three subjects which was then broadcasted to the responding officers.

Upon arrival in the area the officers observed three subjects fitting the description run into a field near the residence. Corporal Weimer and Patrolman Caruso were able to apprehend all three subjects. The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in a 15 year old male juvenile from Belford, NJ, being charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass and Conspiracy and two 15 year old male juveniles from Middletown being charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Conspiracy and Resisting Arrest.

All three suspects were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released to their parents pending a court date. The officers were assisted with the investigation by Detective Kimberly Best.

On September 27, 2011 at approximately 10:10 pm Patrolman James Beirne was on patrol in the area of Newman Springs Road when he stopped a vehicle for having a rear light out. Officer Beirne approached the driver identified as William Seward, age 20, from 5th Avenue in Toms River, NJ, at which point he observed a small baggie containing Marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle.

Officer Beirne conducted an investigation which resulted in the recovery of another small baggie containing Marijuana, a glass pipe used for smoking Marijuana and the arrest of Seward for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

Joseph Kovar, age 26, from Bayview Avenue in Belford, NJ, arrested on September 29, 2011 by Patrolman Anthony Dellatacoma on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Keyport Municipal Court. He was released after posting $164.00 bail.

Anastasia Kinsella, age 26, from Highway 35 in Red Bank, NJ, arrested on September 29, 2011 by Detective Laurence Schachtel on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. She was released after posting $357.00 bail.

Steven Nalbach, age 50, from Hamilton Avenue in Leonardo, NJ, arrested on September 29, 2011 by Patrolman Keith Hirschbein on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Newark Municipal Court. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court date.

Christopher Francy, from 8th Street in Belford, NJ, arrested on September 30, 2011 by Patrolman Anthony Dellatacoma on three Contempt of Court warrants issued by the Aberdeen, Helmetta and Union Beach Municipal Courts. He was released after posting $2,404.00 bail.

Crime Scene Middletown: Attempted Burgalry Suspect Apprehended in Belford

On September 21, 2011 at approximately 1:55 pm police responded to the Thassian Mechanical Contractors Business located on Highway 36 in reference to a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival a witness advised officers that they had observed a subject attempting to pry his way into the building with a crow bar. The witness provided the officer with the suspect’s description which was broadcasted to patrols in the area.

Officers Joseph Glynn, Raymond Sofield and Daniel Murdoch located a subject fitting the description on Wedgewood Drive, a nearby street. The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Tyking Miller, age 18, from Wedgewood Drive in Belford, NJ. Miller was charged with Criminal Trespass, Burglary and Criminal Mischief. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

Detectives Laurence Schachtel and Paul Shanley are handling the follow up investigation.

On September 21, 2011 at approximately 7:10 pm Patrolman Keith Hirschbein was on patrol in the area of Highway 36 when he stopped a vehicle for a view obstruction violation. Officer Hirschbein approached the driver, identified as Ryan Lewis, age 28, from Lily Lane in Freehold, NJ, at which point he observed a baggie containing Marijuana in plain view on the floor of the vehicle.

Officer Hirschbein conducted an investigation which resulted in Lewis being arrested for Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On September 20, 2011 at approximately 4:50 pm Patrolman Nicholas Fenezia and Patrolman Michael Reuter of the Quality of Life Unit responded to the area of the Shore Crest Mini Park in reference to a report of possible drug activity taking place. Upon arrival in the area the officers located a suspicious vehicle parked in the area.

The officers approached the vehicle and conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Christine Dolly, age 21, from Leonardville road in Belford, NJ, and the discovery of a cigar containing Marijuana. Dolly was charged with Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

On September 20, 2011 Detective Daniel Sullivan arrested John Vanliew Jr., age 24, from Beachway Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, for Theft. Police say Vanliew stole jewelry from a residence on Pennybrook Lane in Middletown where he had been hired to perform handyman services. Police located the stolen jewelry in Keansburg.

Detective Jason Lopez of the Keansburg Police Department charged Vanliew with Receiving Stolen Property in Keansburg. Vanliew was released after posting $7,500.00 bail set by Judge Richard Thompson.

Police believe Vanliew may be responsible for similar thefts from other residences in Monmouth and Middlesex Counties where he had been hired as a handyman and request that anyone with information call Detective Sullivan of the Middletown Police department at (732) 615-2255 or Detective Jason Lopez of the Keansburg Police Department at (732) 787-0799.

On September 19, 2011 at approximately 5:00 pm Sergeant First Class Frederick Deickmann was on patrol in the area of Highway 36 when he stopped a vehicle for a seatbelt violation. The officer approached the vehicle at which point he detected an odor of burnt Marijuana coming from inside the car.

Sergeant Deickmann conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of a passenger, identified as Michael Doherty, age 23, from Monmouth Avenue in Leonardo, NJ, and the discovery of a glass bottle containing Marijuana. Doherty was charged with Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

Crime scene Middletown: A Busy Memorial Day Weekend

On May 26, 2011 at approximately 3:30 pm Corporal Bernie Chenoweth responded to a residence on Bray Avenue in reference to an unknown subject standing in a wooden doll house in the backyard. Upon arrival Officer Chenoweth located the subject, identified as Timothy McDougall, age 37, from Route 36 in West Keansburg, NJ, standing inside the doll house.

Corporal Chenoweth continued his investigation and determined that McDougall had showered and slept in a camper on the property and when it became too hot inside the camper he moved to the doll house where he went back to sleep.

McDougall was placed under arrest and was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Burglary and Criminal Trespass. He was processed and held on $12,500.00 bail.

On May 27, 2011 at approximately 6:40 pm Sergeant Paul Bailey and Patrolman Donald Coates were assigned to a Cops in Shops detail at the Port Monmouth Foodtown when they observed a male subject, identified as Lukas Touder, age 22, from Illinois Avenue in Port Monmouth, NJ, attempt to purchase alcohol for three 15 year old females.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in all four subjects being arrested. Touder was charged with Attempting to purchase alcohol for someone under the legal age to possess it. He was processed and released on a summons pending a court date. The three females were charged with Attempting to have an adult purchase alcohol for them. They were processed and released to their parents or guardians pending a court date.

On May 27, 2011 at approximately 6:40 pm Patrolman Raymond Sofield and Patrolman Richard Fulham were on patrol in the area of Ocean Avenue when they observed a subject, identified as Harold Johnson, age 29, from Harbor Way in Middletown, operating a vehicle. The officers were aware that there was an active Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Keansburg Municipal Court for Johnson’s arrest.

The officers stopped the vehicle and placed Johnson under arrest. The officers searched him incident to the arrest and located a pipe used to smoke Marijuana and a small quantity of Marijuana in his pockets.

Johnson was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Contempt of Court, Possession of under 50 grams of Marijuana and Possession of drug paraphernalia. He was processed and held on bail.


On May 27, 2011 at approximately 7:20 pm Sgt. William Colangelo and Corporal Douglas Wiatrak were assigned to a “Cops in Shops” detail at the Bottle King store when they observed, Sarah Glickman, age 21, from Borden Road in Middletown, purchase alcohol for Shannon Playter, age 20, from Palmer Avenue in Middletown.

Both subjects were placed under arrest and were transported to police headquarters. Glickman was charged with Purchasing alcohol for someone under the age of 21 and Playter was charged with Having an adult purchase alcohol for her. Both subjects were processed and released pending a court date.

On May 27, 2011 at approximately 9:55 pm Corporal James Keenan responded to the area of Ocean Avenue in reference to a dispute taking place in the street. Upon arrival Officer Keenan determined that the dispute was between two neighbors over a parking problem.

Corporal Keenan conducted an investigation which resulted in Peter Palumbo, age 50, from Ocean Avenue in Middletown being arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Mischief. Palumbo had punched the neighbor’s mailbox causing damage to it. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 27, 2011 at approximately 10:50 Patrolman Raymond Sofield and Patrolman Richard Fulham were on patrol in the area of Highway 36 when they observed a vehicle being operated at a high rate of speed and recklessly changing lanes. The officers stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Robert Oakley, age 18, from Caldwell Avenue in Belford.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Oakley being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. The officers continued their investigation and determined that a 16 year old female passenger was in Possession of alcohol underage. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters for processing.

Oakley was charged with the additional offense of Reckless Driving and was released pending a court date. The 16 year old female was processed and released to her mother pending a court date.

On May 28, 2011 at approximately 6:50 pm Sgt. William Colangelo and Patrolman Frank Mazza were assigned to a “Cops in Shops” detail at the Bottle King Store when they observed Stephen Cronin, age 22, from Buchanan Boulevard in Middletown, purchase alcohol for John Cronin, age 18, also from Buchanan Boulevard in Middletown.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in Stephen Cronin being arrested for Purchasing Alcohol for a person under the legal age and John Cronin being charged with Having an adult purchase alcohol for him. Both subjects were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released pending a court date.

On May 28, 2011 at approximately 10:15 pm Sgt. Sean Sweeney and Corporal Douglas Wiatrak were assigned to a “Cops in Shops” detail at Junction Bar and Liquors when they observed Morgan Brittain, age 19, from Washington Avenue in Leonardo and Christele Beam, age 18, from Kenneth Terrace East in Middletown, attempt to purchase alcohol underage.

Both subjects were issued summonses and released pending a court date.

On May 29, 2011 at approximately 2:10 am Patrolman Albert Scott was assigned to a DWI check point in the area of Highway 35 and Navesink River Road when a vehicle driven by Shawn Kelly, age 37, from Center Avenue in Leonardo drove into the check point. Officer Scott approached the vehicle at which point he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Kelly’s breath.

Officer Scott continued his investigation which resulted in Kelly being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Open Alcohol in a motor vehicle. Kelly was searched incident to the arrest at which point Patrolman Scott located a baggie containing Marijuana in Kelly’s pants pocket.

Kelly was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with the additional offense of Possession of under 50 grams of Marijuana. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 29, 2011 at approximately 2:40 am Corporal James Keenan was on patrol in the area of Ocean Avenue and Port Monmouth Road when he observed a vehicle commit a stop sign violation. Officer Keenan stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Shawn Schmidt, age 38, from Magnolia Avenue in Hazlet, NJ. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Schmidt’s breath.

Officer Keenan conducted an investigation which resulted in Schmidt being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with the additional offenses of Failing to stop at a stop sign, and Failing to produce a valid insurance card. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 29, 2011 6:00 pm Sgt. William Colangelo responded to the area of Highway 36 and 9th Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival Sgt. Colangelo spoke with the driver, identified as James Goodbody, age 32, from Union Place in Middletown and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Sgt. Colangelo conducted an investigation which resulted in Goodbody being arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to submit to breath tests and Reckless Driving. He was processed and released pending a court date.

On May 30, 2011 at approximately 1:00 pm Sgt. William Colangelo was on patrol in the area of Highway 36 near Thousand Oaks drive when he observed a vehicle being operated by a driver who was not wearing his seatbelt. Sgt. Colangelo stopped the vehicle and approached the driver. While doing so he observed the rear seat passenger, identified as Brihanna Cuttone, age 18, from Troy Drive in Springfield, NJ, attempt to hide a small baggie.

Sgt. Colangelo conducted an investigation which resulted in Cuttone being arrested for Possession of under 50 grams of Marijuana. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released pending a court date.

Samuel Torres, age 22, from Raymond Court in Hazlet, NJ, arrested on May 29, 2011 by Patrolman Frank Mazza on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Anadale Municipal Court. He was released after posting $89.00 bail.

Royal Clark, age 46, from 5th Street in Highlands, NJ, arrested on May 26, 2011 by Patrolman Richard Belmonte on a Contempt of Court warrant.

Nelson Baptista, age 19, from Garrison Street in Newark, NJ, arrested on May 27, 2011 by Patrolman Michael Pintilie on a Contempt of Court warrant. He was released after posting $2,500 bail.

Barbara Werner, age 62, from Main Street in Keansburg, NJ, arrested on May 27, 2011 by Patrolman Michael Pintilie on numerous Contempt of Court warrants issued by a variety of municipal courts. She was released after posting $2,900 bail.
Mayra Gomez-Vallejo, age 43, from Pacific Avenue in Los Angeles, CA, arrested on May 27, 2011 by Patrolman Adam Vendetti on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. She was released after posting $500.00 bail.

Lori Gallagher, age 51, from Tatum Drive in Middletown, arrested on May 27, 2011 by Patrolman Ian May on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Summit City Municipal court. She was released after posting bail.

Russell Dunn, age 23, from Highland Avenue in Leonardo, NJ, arrested on May 30, 2011 by Patrolman Ian May on a Failure to Appear warrant issued by the Atlantic County Superior Court. He was held with a no bail stipulation at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility.

Megan Gingerelli, age 22, from Kimberly Court in Red Bank, NJ, arrested on May 31, 2011 by Patrolman Richard Belmonte on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. She was held on $1,000.00 bail.

Crime Scene Middletown: Home Intruder and Other Recent Activity

On April 25, 2011 at 5:58 am police responded to a residence on Bray Avenue in reference to a report of intruder inside a home. Upon arrival Patrolman Nicholas Fenezia and Patrolman Charles Higgins were advised by the homeowners that they had located a subject sleeping in their basement.

The officers located the subject, Jerry Stanzione, age 32, from Briarwood Avenue in Keansburg,NJ, in the basement. The officers determined that Stanzione was extremely intoxicated and had entered the basement through a window and went to sleep on a mattress.

Stanzione was arrested and was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Criminal Trespass and Criminal Mischief. He was processed and released.


On April 25, 2011 Detective Daniel Sullivan charged Kimberly Macrina, age 46, from Linden Avenue in Middletown and Paul Hughes, age 28, from Cavan Lane in Hazlet, NJ with Shoplifting and Conspiracy to Commit Shoplifting from the Stop and Shop grocery store.

Both subjects were identified by store security after an investigation into a theft from the store on February 24, 2011. Det. Sullivan conducted a follow up investigation which resulted in their arrests.
Macrina was processed and held on $20,000 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Michael Pugliese. Hughes was charged on a summons and was pending a court date.

The Middletown Police arrested the following subjects on warrants:

Jeffrey Johnson, age 54, from Highland Avenue in Keansburg, NJ, arrested by Patrolman Brady Carr on April 21, 2011 on Contempt of Court warrants issued by the Keansburg and Sea Bright Municipal Courts. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court date.

Kenneth Brown, age 22, from Atlantic Avenue in Asbury Park, NJ arrested by Patrolman Keith Hirschbein on April 22, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Asbury Park Municipal Court. He was held on bail.

Daniel Powell, age 23, from Crescent Drive in Middletown, arrested by Patrolman Lawrence Seymour on April 22, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Sayreville Municipal Court. He was released after posting $540.00 bail.

Terrence Herron, age 23, from Brevent Avenue in Leonardo, arrested by Patrolman Raymond Sofield on April 23, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Eatontown Municipal Court. He was released after posting $89.00 bail.

Gordon Reiger, age 56, from Florence Avenue in Leonardo, arrested by Patrolman Brady Carr on April 25, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Court. He was released after posting $89.00 bail.

Stephen Parco, age 23, from Moak Drive in Hazlet, NJ, arrested by Patrolman Greg Buhowski on April 25, 2011 on two warrants issued by the Monmouth County Superior Court. He was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ.

Anthony Roberts, age 29, from Cross Road in Matawan, NJ, arrested by Sgt. Paul Bailey on April 26, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant. He was released after posting $106.00 bail.

Dawn Santiago, age 30, from Cross Road in Matawan, NJ, arrested by Sgt. Paul Bailey on April 26, 2011 three Contempt of Court warrants. She was held on $1200.00 bail.

Peter Dolan, age 42, from Davey Street in Bloomfield, NJ, arrested by Cpl. Keith Macdonald on April 26, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Middletown Municipal Court. He was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Facility.

Sandra Bartlett, age 29, from Ocean Avenue in Middletown, arrested by Patrolman Lawrence Seymour on April 26, 2011 on a Contempt of Court warrant issued by the Dunellen Municipal court. She was released on bail.

William Horner, age 29, from Port Monmouth Road in Port Monmouth, arrested by Patrolman Keith Hirschbein on April 26, 2011 on three Contempt of Court warrants. He was transferred to the Hillsborough Police Department and was being held on $985.00 bail.
