A Republican supporter of our movement to #stopchrissmith told us that her Republican friends were going to vote for the whole package, regarding Chris Smith.
So, we decided to review what is in the Chris Smith Package and here are our TOP TEN reasons to VOTE AGAINST Chris Smith.
1. Voted to close the government - closing parks, impacting veteran benefits and putting people out of work.
2. Voted for the Ryan Budge - cutting benefits for Veterans, the elderly and cuts long term care for the disabled and autistic. Also, reopens the prescription drug "Donut hole" impacting the elderly.
The Consortium for Disabled Persons, the Veterans and the Autistic Society urged Smith to NOT vote YES on the Ryan Budget - but he voted as a GOP block anyway and ignored is constituents.
3. He has not lived in NJ for over 30 years. His children received Virginia In State tuition for college. He was not here for 9/11, Irene or Sandy. Which is probably why he made an oath to NOT support any climate change legislation unless it also provided tax cuts for the biggest polluters, the Koch Brothers who wrote the pledge!
4. He voted Against Wage Fairness in 2014
5. Voted for Personhood over and over again. Personhood gives a fetus the same rights as an adult human. Personhood BANS ALL birth control, stem cell research and in - vitro fertilization.
6. Wrote Bill, HR3, redefining the language of rape to forcible rape. Women would have to be beaten, bloody or worse to prove they were raped based on Smith's definition.
7. Voted to OUTLAW the Birth Control Pill.
8. Smith is Against CHOICE even in cases of RAPE, INCEST and to SAVE THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER.
9. Smith refuses to support common sense expanded Universal Background Checks that keep guns out of the hands of rapists, criminals, domestic abusers and terrorists. Even after 87 school shootings, Smith will not support Gun Reform.
10. Voted Against the VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN'S ACT IN 2013.
To boot, Smith will not support Marriage Equality.
Is that the package that the Republican's are voting for?
Who in this District does he actually represent?
Help us #stopchrissmith and his #waronwomen by sharing Smith's voting record and #GOTV

Letter: Congressman Smith would rather play politics
The following letter appeared over at CentralJersey.com:
Congressman Chris Smith recently voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
This legislation, which had enjoyed bipartisan support since it was first passed in 1994, is crucial in providing funding for domestic violence and sexual assault programs all across the country, including funding for the forensic exams done by sexual assault nurse examiners to collect evidence from victims, and funding for domestic violence shelters and other victim services.
Why did Chris Smith and other House Republicans vote against VAWA this time? Because the bill provided non-discrimination protections for victims who are members of the LGBT community and because it provided special rules for dealing with victims who are undocumented immigrants or Native Americans and are willing to cooperate with law enforcement.
As the whole nation recently saw in the Ray Rice video of the incident in the elevator, domestic violence is ugly and brutal. The National Football League is beginning to understand the issues involved and seems to want to be part of the solution. Congressman Smith, it seems, would rather play politics.
By voting against reauthorizing VAWA, Congressman Chris Smith has once again shown that he puts his own personal and party ideology over the interests of his constituents, especially female voters. It’s time for a change.

The Middle Class Jumpstart
The following is a newsletter from Congressman Frank Pallone:
As your Member of Congress, my focus has always been and will always be ensuring that every American, regardless of their race, gender, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or socio-economic status, has a fair shot at making it in this country.
Unfortunately, Republicans continue to ignore legislation in Congress that would safeguard this essential element of the American Dream. Instead, they have chosen to double-down on political stunts and partisan gridlock. Meanwhile, the American middle class remains on the losing end.
Democrats in Congress, however, have proposed a legislative initiative – called “the Middle Class Jumpstart” – that addresses the challenges facing the middle class with a three-prong strategy:
• Providing tax incentives for creating good-paying jobs here at home, as well as authorizing the repair and modernization of America’s roads, rails, bridges and broadband technology
• Guaranteeing both women and men get equal pay for equal work, as well as strengthening the “Violence Against Women Act” and expanding access to comprehensive health care and family planning
• Making college more affordable and allow students to refinance their college loans to new, lower rates, as well as increasing access to effective early childhood learning
I remain committed to passing these bills and revitalizing our middle class to ensure our nation remains prosperous and rich with opportunity for all Americans.

Pallone Announces $425,000 Grant to Respond to Victims of Abuse
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that Middlesex County, New Jersey has been awarded a $425,000 federal grant through the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Training and Services to End Violence Against Women with Disabilities Grants Program (Disability Grant Program). The Disability Grant Program increases the capacity of organizations to respond to individuals with disabilities who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking and to hold perpetrators of such crimes accountable.
“These crimes are horrific and we must continue to work to end the cycle of violence so that not one more person is a victim of abuse,” said Congressman Pallone. “Programs like the Disability Grant Program are critical to ensuring that those who are victimized are able access services and get the support needed in order to recover. We have made gains since the Violence Against Women Act was signed into law twenty years ago, but we still have work to do to make sure that no one is living in constant fear. This grant will help us support survivors and bring us one step closer to ending this unfathomable violence.”
The Disability Grant Program was created in the Violence Against Women Act of 2000 and has been reauthorized in the years since. It is run through the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), which is a component of the DOJ. Created in 1995, OVW implements the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and subsequent legislation and provides national leadership on issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

Today marks the 20-year anniversary of the landmark Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) which changed how we view and respond to domestic and sexual assault.
Before VAWA, women who suffered from domestic violence suffered in silence, and law enforcement failed to give this issue the attention it desperately needed.

EDITORIAL: IT IS A TIME TO MAKE PROGRESS ON GENDER EQUITY
By John Currie
Earlier this week, I joined Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House, at Rutgers’ Center for American Women and Politics for a conversation about her career.
Pelosi’s story is incredible, as is her record of working to improve the lives of all Americans, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. She argued convincingly for the need to promote of women in politics and across society, and I was struck by the truth and simplicity of her message: “When women succeed, New Jersey succeeds.”
Ensuring that women — our mothers, sisters, and daughters — have the same opportunities as their male counterparts is not a political issue. Nor is it a “women’s” issue or a “Democratic” issue. It is a family issue, and an economic issue.
It is in everyone’s interest to keep children learning and parents earning by promoting fair pay, a proper work and life balance, and affordable childcare. Doing so can make us all more prosperous while strengthening the backbone of our country’s economy, the middle class.
Why, then, are we not making progress on these fronts?
Sadly, Republican obstructionism is to blame.
The Republican-controlled Congress is obsessed with repealing and undermining the Affordable Care Act and the protections the historic law includes. For example, they would allow health insurance companies to again consider womanhood a preexisting medical condition. That is not going to happen.
Washington Republicans are also standing in the way of progress. They prevented increases in the minimum wage, delayed the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and refused to promote access to affordable, high quality childcare. They would not consider improving paid family and medical leave, and they denied a vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act… the list examples goes on.
Such misguided priorities beg the question: is the Republican Party really so out of touch with America’s needs, and those of women in particular?
A recent CNN Poll says yes. A majority of Americans, “do not believe the Republican Party understands the problems and concerns of women today,” the report said.
The irony is that the Republicans know their approach is flawed. After President Barack Obama’s reelection, Republican leaders admitted that their party was alienating huge swaths of voters. Operatives argued for reaching out to communities of color, being more inclusive of gay Americans, and, notably, attracting more women to the party. They commissioned an “autopsy report,” which recommended, “a forward-leaning vision for voting Republican that appeals to women.” Then, they organized seminars to teach their candidates how to talk to women, how to talk about women, and how to run against women. But, mistakenly, they failed to rethink their policy priorities.
Sadly, this is not just an inside-the-beltway dilemma. New Jersey’s scandal-plagued governor, Chris Christie, is no better. His agenda has never been friendly to women or the middle class.
Governor Christie has vetoed equal pay legislation multiple times and he opposed paid family leave. He even argued that raising the minimum wage was “just an irresponsible thing to do” and “a truly ridiculous idea,” despite compelling economic evidence to the contrary.
When given the opportunity to help women access health care services and bring funds to the state, Christie did neither. Our governor eliminated nearly $7.5 million for family planning services that would have been matched 9-to-1 by federal funds.
Yes, you read that correctly. Rather than saving $45 million a year, Christie preferred to deny thousands of women access to mammograms and other basic health care services.
These are fundamental issues, not abstract concerns, that have tangible affects on working women and their families.
Consider the gender wage gap. According to the National Partnership for Women and Families, women in New Jersey are paid 78 cents for every dollar paid to men, creating a yearly $13,413 gap between what full time working men and working women earn. Meanwhile, African American women were paid 64 cents and Latinas just 55 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. The organization estimated that closing that gap would help working women pick up the tab for basic family expenses: 103 more weeks of food; 6 more months of mortgage and utilities payments; 12 more months of rent; or 3,848 more gallons of gas.
Democrats have always stood with women, and we will continue to fight for fair and equal treatment under the law. We understand that the impact of so-called women’s issues is not gender specific — everyone sitting around our kitchen tables is affected by such societal inequities.
As the next election approaches, I am hopeful that the Republican Party will see the error in their ways. It’s time to make progress on gender equity.

Middletown Congressman, Chris Smith, Redefines Rape To Prevent Victims From Seeking A Abortion If Impregnated By The Attack
by District 4 Coalition For Change
ATTENTION TO ALL WOMEN - THIS IS RECKLESS AND DANGEROUS FOR ALL WOMEN AND EMPOWERS RAPISTS.
Congressman Smith redefines RAPE in House Bill HR3 to prevent victims from seeking an abortion. To add insult to injury - He voted against the Violence Against Womens Act.
A bill redefining Rape to prevent abortions is ‘A Violent Act Against Women’ So if you get raped, make sure he beats you bloody and breaks your nose and maybe cuts your throat, just so you can prove to some people that it really WAS "rape-rape".
If he kills you, I guess that's a bonus, because you certainly won't need an abortion then.

Pallone Calls for Passage of Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act
Visits Women’s Rights Organization, Manavi
New Brunswick, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) visited Manavi, an organization in New Brunswick, New Jersey that provides critical service to primarily South Asian women who are victims of violence. Pallone was joined by New Jersey State Senator Nia Gill (D-Essex/Passaic), and representatives from the Center on Violence Against Women and Children at Rutgers University.
Senator Gill is a prime sponsor with State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg on the VAWA Bridge Act (S-2490) in the New Jersey State Senate, which would provide bridge funding for programs that receive support from VAWA until Congress reauthorizes the bill.
After the group toured the Manavi facility and spoke with the organization’s staff and representatives of its board of directors, Pallone discussed the urgent need for the House passage of the bipartisan Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA Reauthorization).
Earlier this month, VAWA Reauthorization passed in the U.S. Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 78 to 22. The Senate passed bill includes provisions that significantly expand protections to women from the LGBT, Native American and immigrant communities.
“Protecting all women from violence, assault, and stalking should not be a Democrat or Republican issue, and it is time for House Republicans stop blocking this strong, bipartisan bill,” said Pallone.
“Among numerous important provisions, the VAWA Reauthorization contains critical improvements to the law for protecting women who are suffering abuse in immigrant communities, and further delay of this bill is not an option. I want to thank everyone at Manavi and the Center on Violence Against Women and Children at Rutgers University for your good work, and also State Senator Gill for your support of this meaningful legislation.”
“The Violence Against Women Act has proven successful in protecting women and children against violence and abuse. I am proud to stand with Congressman Pallone who has continued to advocate for programs that serve victims of domestic violence and has made renewal of VAWA a priority. In the event that House Republicans fail to act on this legislation in a timely manner, we will continue our work in Trenton to ensure we have bridge funding in place for agencies that protect and provide the necessary services to support women against violence,” said State Senator Gill.
The VAWA Reauthorization significantly strengthens the ability of the Federal Government, the States, law enforcement, and service providers to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. As with the previous reauthorizations of VAWA in 2000 and 2005, this bill responds to the realities and needs reported by those who work with victims every day to make VAWA work better for all victims.
