Christie Admits To Being a Dallas Cowboys Fan

How can any self-respecting NY Giants, NY Jets or for that matter, a Philadelphia Eagle fan, support a man who roots for the Dallas Cowboys ? It's just about impossible to do so.
Funny, he seemed to be a huge fan of the Giants down on the field after the Giants beat the New England Patriots after Super Bowl XLVI.
Talk about being an opportunistic politician...
From Giants101.com:
Outspoken New Jersey governor Chris Christie may have to watch his words on a number of issues, but he made his allegiances clear in his NFL affiliations yesterday. Although Christie is the leader of the great state of New Jersey, he admits he;s not a fan of either team that calls the Meadowlands home.
"It is not the New York Jets … and it is not the Philadelphia Eagles," Christie said to ESPNNewYork.com. "Get ready now. My favorite football team are the Dallas Cowboys … which by the way is not the smartest thing for the Governor of New Jersey to want to be is a fan of the Dallas Cowboys."
Politically, rooting for the Cowboys is not the most savvy if moves when two other professional teams play in New Jersey. Even if Christie was a Jets fan, he could at least have a justifiable excuse. As a Cowboys fan, he comes off as a bandwagon football fan who grew up nowhere near Dallas, but fell in love with the likes of Troy Aikman and Emmett Smith during the mid to late 1990s.
In fact. Christie admitted that the success, or lack there of, of both New York football teams during his childhood played a major role in which team he chose to root for as an adult.
"The Giants and the Jets pretty much stunk when I was a kid," Christie said. "And my father was a Giants fan and I used to remember watching him when I was eight, nine-years-old. Every Sunday, he would watch the Giants and yell at the TV set. I used to think to myself, why would I want to root for a team that makes you angry? So I decided not to and the Cowboys were really good back then."
If Christie had remained a Giants fan, he would have saved himself a great heartaches over the last several seasons. Instead, in the past couple of years, he's called the team the "New Jersey Giants" and even picked the Jets to defeat them, and now he has to hope his non-political affiliates do not effect his upcoming political aspirations.

Is It Real or Fake? Ryan's Sanchez Tattoo Is Classic
I'm not a big fan of tattoos or Rex Ryan but I have to admit, when I heard about the new tattoo Ryan was sporting on his arm, while relaxing on the beach down in the Bahamas, I couldn't wait to see it.
A picture of Ryan's unveiled tattoo appears on both the front and back cover of the NY Daily News this morning. The tattoo appears to be of his wife Michelle, wearing a Marc Sanchez jersey posing in a position that has come to know as "Tebowing", made famous by Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow.
For obvious reasons if you follow the Jets, it's a strange and bizarre tattoo for Ryan or any NFL head coach to have inked on his arm and many doubt that it is real. After all, why would a coach tattoo a current players jersey on his arm when he may not be coaching the team or the player in years to come?
The speculation is that Ryan, with his strange whit and sense of humor, had the tattoo painted on to play games with team beat writers who may have followed him down to the Bahamas, to see how he was spending time on vacation instead of being in NY and answering questions from the media after the end of the Jets season, as mandated by NFL policy.
Regardless of whether the tattoo is real or fake or Ryan's motives for getting the tattoo, it is a classic that I am sure many will end up copying.

Princess Picks Week 7 - Jets v. Patriots
Princess is coming off of a huge win last week. If you guys remember she picked the underdog NYGiants to beat the San Francisco 49ers, in San Francisco last week. No one, not one single pundent (or myself), gave the Giants much of a chance in that game. We all wrote it off looking ahead to this weeks game against the Washington Redskins, but not Princess she picked them and now her record is a very impressive 5W-1L heading into today's game.
After two weeks of picking game involving the Giants, for this weeks game our prognosticating camel of Popcorn Park Zoo, is chiming by choosing the winner of this afternoons NY Jets vs. New England Patriots.
And the pick is.... the Patriots at home over the Jets.
"... I really do like the Jets and I want them to win, but Rex just has everybody going in different directions. They won pretty handily last week and didn’t look too bad, but this week, going up to play the Patriots and with the Patriots coming off a loss last week, I think the Jets are in trouble." Princess said after making her choice of the week.
Princess is a wise old camel that knows what she's talking about. I think she's right and the Jets are in for a long day.

Princess the Camel is Back and Picks the 49ers Over the Jets

She has been busy making her pick and thus far has a W2-1L record, having chosen correctly in weeks 1&2, the Jets over the Bill and Giants over the Bucs. She nearly made it 3 in a row last week with her pick of the Dolphins over the Jets if it weren't for a missed field goal in OT by the Dolphins placekicker.
This week Princess is looking to get back to her winning ways (and to be frank, I don't see how her pick can lose this week). Princess has picked the San Francisco 49ers to beat the NY Jets, saying of the Jets and head Coach Rex Ryan, "He lost his best defensive player last week for the season. Now he’s putting a running back in that position …. who know's what he’s going to have Tebow doing this week .... punt team, hold the ball for the place kicker or maybe sing the National Anthem???. The whole thing is starting to turn into a mess."
Has Princess made the right choice this week? We'll find out tomorrow, but I think she has. There is now way the Jets will be able to exploit the 49ers defense, it's just to good, or the firepower of their offense.
It very well could be a long day for Marc Sanchez and the Jets.

OP-ED: Governor Rex Christie
In light of the big game tonight, Josh Henne sent me a link to this op-ed he wrote on the striking similarities between Rex Ryan & Chris Christie. It appears over at PolitickerNJ:
It stands to reason these two larger-than-life characters stand out – because Christie and Ryan both furnish the media with quality copy and soundbites. However, there’s a fine line between being charming and becoming a caricature of yourself. And leaders are afforded a short rope before folks start realizing the rhetoric doesn’t match the results. In recent months, Christie and Ryan have planted their feet firmly on the wrong side of both accounts.
The beauty of both politics and the playing field is that these arenas are results-oriented. The metrics of wins and accomplishments are the only ones that matter. It’s not just about who can talk the biggest game. And the shtick employed by both Christie and Ryan runs thin once you scratch the surface of their swagger.
No one remembers football teams who never make it to the big game – no matter how many times their coach promises a trip to the Super Bowl. Rex believes if he yells loud enough folks will forget choking in the conference championship or failing to even make the playoffs. If Ryan makes himself the story, perhaps fans won’t notice his team regressing or his quarterback failing to grow.
In politics, its hard to take someone seriously who hogs the spotlight, bashes his own state to pander to Iowa crowds and tosses the word “hell” into public statements like a twelve-year old who just discovered cursing. It’s difficult to believe someone is authentic when they pack taxpayer-funded townhall meetings with partisan backers and care more about generating youtube moments than results. It’s hard to take Governor Christie at his word as he pledges poverty when cutting essential programs, yet miraculously finds funds to give handouts and bailouts to casino execs, mall developers and those at the tippy top of the economic strata.
The words “doing the big thing” are often shouted to the rafters by Chris Christie. Yet if you look at actual results, he comes up small every time. New Jersey lags the nation when it comes to employment. And no matter how many times Christie claims he hasn’t raised taxes, all anyone has to do is hold up a train ticket, scan a tuition bill from a state university or look at their property taxes to see swelling costs.
Both Christie and Ryan have an amazing ability to change the topic following failures. Rex shoots off his mouth after a loss, giving excuses while still calling his team the one to beat - no matter how badly he was outcoached by those who might not be as flashy, but have more substance. When Christie skipped town with an historic blizzard bearing down on his state, the governor refused to take responsibility and even blamed local mayors when he finally came home from his Disney vacation. When New Jersey’s children lost $400 million in Race to the Top funding because his administration bungled a simple application, Christie first blamed Barack Obama and then threw his own Education Commissioner under the bus.
Chris Christie might not share Rex Ryan's predilection for sucking on toes. But the governor does spend an inordinate amount of time and energy sucking up to the Koch Brothers, Karl Rove and corporate lobbyists. And that’s a far more nefarious fetish. Because these one-percenters are seeking to scale back regulations in order to better their bottom line - even if it means poisoning New Jersey's land, air and water. In Christie’s New Jersey, middle-class families find themselves in harms way time and again.
Like Rex Ryan, Christie’s image as a take-charge guy rings hollow when you see the rudderless execution of plans. Womens’ health, infrastructure improvements and education efforts have all been defunded. Cops and firefighters receive pink slips, while crime escalates. And Christie has no vision for the future – as evidenced by cancelling the ARC Tunnel linking to Manhattan which would have taken cars off the road, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, raised home values and created 6,000 immediate jobs and 45,000 future jobs.
On the playground, the cardinal rule is that when you’ve got a big mouth you’ve got to be able to back it up. The quickest way to shut up a bully is to call them out. And for all their blunt statements and bold claims, folks are finally catching onto the Christie-Ryan playbook. The coach and the governor have both elevated the bar with inflated achievement to the point that even slight improvements would seem mundane when the tale of the tape is truly told. More and more, their exhortations are being met with eyerolls and yawns.
With his annual guarantees of a Super Bowl victory, yet failing to even make the playoffs this year, Rex Ryan is clearly no second coming of Joe Namath. And Chris Christie...well, let's just hope he goes the way of Sarah Palin. A one-term governor with a big personality who burst onto the national scene and became addicted to the adulation to the point of diminishing returns and eventual ridicule.
What society needs – in all facets of life - are leaders of substance focused on results, not their own ego or personal gratification. Clearly, Coach Ryan and Governor Christie care more about creating headlines than making a real difference. We should treat them like a parent dropping off a crying kid at nursery school. All they want is attention, so if we just walk away hopefully they'll get the hint and cut the act.
Josh Henne is a Democratic strategist and a Giants fan.

Week 17- Giants v. Cowboys for Princess

"...Jets coach Ryan said he didn’t come to New York to be anybody’s little brother and he was going to prove that last Saturday. I guess that didn’t work out for him!..." commented Princess
This week it all comes down to the last game of the season for both the Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, the winner of this game takes the NFC East Division crown and marches(more likes limps) into the playoffs, while the loser goes home and watches the playoffs from their easy chairs.
From her sanctuary at Popcorn Park Zoo, in Lacy Township NJ, Princess the Camel has made her final NFL game prediction of the regular season and has chosen the Giants to beat the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night at MetLife Stadium.
"...The Giants and Cowboys, you never know with both of them, good one week bad another, with the Giants it's bad one quarter and good the next...if the Giants can play a whole game of defense like they did in the 2nd half last week they should be okay.", Princess said about the game.
I happen to agree but it won't be easy. It's tough to beat an NFL team twice in one season, especially a division rival that you played only a couple of weeks earlier.
Like any other game, this one will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes and which QB, Manning or Romo, rallies their team more successfully.

Giants v. Jets for Princess - Week 16

Both the Giants and the Jets are playng for their playoff lives today. If the Giants lose to the Jets today they're done and might as well go home and spend New Years Day with their families instead of with the Cowboys in MetLife Stadium. If the Jets lose to the Giants, mathematically they're not finished, they still have a chance of making the playoffs with a lot of help from others, which is unlikely.
So who does Princess like today? Well she is sticking with her favorite and picking the Giants over the Jets today.
"...This is a tough one, anything can happen. It’s almost like one of them is going to win by accident. I know Rex is going to have his defense psyched for the game but somehow I think the Giants defense is going to be better and if Eli can get his game together the Giants should win!..."Well, we'll see. Princess (and I) thought that last week the Giants were going to prevail against the Redskins and we know how that turned out.
For those keeping track, Princess's pick record stands at 9(W) - 6(L) thus far this year.

Princess Picks Week 14 - Giants v. Cowboys
Week 14 of the NFL season is upon us and Princess the Camel of Lacy Township's Popcorn Park Zoo, is coming off a big win.
Last week she picked the NY Jets to beat the Washington Redskins down at FedEx Field. That pick was in jeopardy going to the 4th quarter, the Jets were down 19-13 to the Skin when all of a sudden, the Redskins imploded by giving up 21 unanswered points in the span of 7 minutes.

For this week's pick, Princess is taking the NY Giants(6-6) over the Dallas Cowboys (7-5), in Dallas on Sunday night.
So what did Princess have to say about her pick?

Well, one of them is going to win by accident.", "...But they did play a good game last week even though they lost. Eli will out gun Romo."
I agree with Princess on this weeks pick, this should be a good game for the Giants. They are the better team and need to beat the Cowboys to keep their playoff hopes alive.

A win Sunday night will give the Giants a slight lead over the Cowboys in the NFC East, but to ensure a playoff spot they will have to win the rest of their games and beat the Cowboys a second time on New Years Day to guarantee it. It wont be easy but I think they will be up to the challenge.
Let's hope that Princess continues her winning ways this week.

NFL Week 13 Princess Picks - Jets v. Redskins
Coming off a win last week after picking the New Orleans Saints to beat the NY Giants, Princess the prognosticating Camel of Lacy Township Popcorn Park Zoo, is feeling pretty good about herself and her 7W-5L record.

In a game that would on the surface seem to be another no-brainer, Princess is taking the NY Jets to beat the Washington Redskins on the road at FedX Field. I say no-brainer because conventional wisdom has the Jets beating up on the 4W-7L Redskins on Sunday, but if you succumb to conventional wisdom you may be making a big mistake this week.
The Redskins are a better team then their record would indicate even with the massive amount of injuries that the team has suffered this year. On defense the Skins rank 10th overall in passing defense and 18th against the run. What has hurt the Redskins is their offense, they are 14th overall in passing but their running game is essentially nonexistent ranking 31st in the league.
Offensively these teams are evenly match, while on defense the Jets seem to have a slight advantage, so the game isn't going to be a blowout or an easy win for the Jets if they do happen to come out on top.
Speaking of the Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan, Princess gave the follow reason as to why she picked the Jets over the Redskins tomorrow,"...Well, sometimes he has a way of rallying his team with the way he acts, and they need this game to have any chance at the playoffs."

NFL Week 12 Is Nearly Over But Not Before Princess Picks The Saint In Monday Night Match-Up Vs The Giants

If you recall from my last Princess post for NFL week 11, she picked the NY Jets to beat the Denver Broncos in a game that the Jets unfortunately went on to loose.
It was a bad loss for the Jets, it set off a fire storm of criticism in the media, put the Jets play-off hope at risk and lead Coach Rex Ryan to publicly humiliate Quarterback Marc Sanchez by taking away some of his practice time with the first string offense.
In this weeks game Princess seems to have made the a predictable safe prediction after two straight very close loosing predictions (Giants over Niners, Jets over Broncos). Princess says that the New Orleans Saints will beat the NY Giants in New Orleans to close out week 12 in the NFL on Monday night.
"...the blue on the Giants is a little faded and I think they are too. The defense is in disarray and they looked almost as bad as the Jets defense. The Saints are tough especially in their own building. Someone has to step up and take control of the Giants, until then…"
Princess record at picking games this year is currently 6W-5L, I think after this game her record will be even. I just can't imagine after two bad losses in a row,the last one being a total shellacking by the Eagles, that the Giants will stink it up three weeks in a row.
I think the Giants will be ready for this game even though their offensive line is being reconstructed this week and they will be playing without runningback Ahmad Bradshaw. The Giants defense will hold the Saints in check just enough for Eli Manning to work enough voodoo in his New Orleans homecoming.
It will be close, I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of say, 20-17 Giants.

Princess Pick Updates; The Camel Picks'em Wrong The Past Two Weeks

Last week I missed posting about Princess's choice to take the NY Giants over the S.F 49ers, I got busy with post election stuff and honey-do lists. Princess picked the Giants to beat the 49ers in that game out on the left coast believing that Eli Manning would be able to rally the team from behind once again late in the game if necessary. And if it wasn't for an injury on defense to Middle-linebacker Michael Boley, the Giants might have held their opposition and allowed Eli to make the comeback complete.
This weeks game for week 11 went off last night between the NY Jets vs the Denver Broncos. Due to the game being played on Thursday night this week, I didn't check in with Princess early enough this week to see her pick.
In last night's game, Princess like most of us, assumed that the Jets would handily take care of Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos but you remember what the say about assuming... Poor plays on offense (interception returned for a touchdown) and defense (Tebow 20 yard touchdown run on third and 4 with a minutes to play) had the Jets crashing to earth and the Broncos sitting high in their saddles eking out the 17-13 victory.
We'll have to wait to see next week if Princess rights her recent losing ways but for those now keeping score, after losses the past two weeks Princess's record stands at 6W-5L

With Week 7 Pick Princess Looks to End Two Game Losing Streak; Take The Chargers Over The Jets She Says

In an attempt to get back on track this week, Princess has decided that the San Diego Chargers will beat the NY Jets to bolster her record of picking game winners to a very respectable 5-2 by the end of Sunday's game.
In speaking about Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan and the Jets in general Princess had this to say about why she chose the Chargers this week, "... with his team in disarray. You never know what to expect from him or them."
Is she right or will her losing streak continue dropping her record fall to 4-3 after Sunday? If you're a Jets fan I know you think she is wrong, but we'll have to wait until Sunday to find out.

Princess Takes Bills Over Giants In Week 6 Action
It's week 6 of the NFL season and Princess the Camel was thwarted in her attempt last week to start the season off with a perfect 5-0 record of winning picks, instead she ended the week with a respectable 4-1 record. Last week if you remember, Princess the prognosticating Camel of Popcorn Park Zoo, picked the NY Jets to defeat the NE Patriots, I advised against the pick and chose the Pats thus coming out as the winner.

This week however is a new week and brings with it another chance of predicting the outcome of yet another NFL game. This week's game that Princess has the pleasure of prognosticating over is the NY Giants Vs. the Buffalo Bills, at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.
Siting Eli Manning's 3 interceptions thrown in last weeks loss to the Seahawks as main reason for choosing the Bills to beat the Giants this week Princess stated, "...He threw to the defense 3 times last week. How can you win like that? They might straighten themselves out, but not this week -- the Bills are winning!!"
Princess logic may or may not be hard to argue with but the one thing I know is that anything can happen out on the field on any given Sunday. And even though the Giants are banged up and coming off a bad loss, they are still a good football team that should prevail this week.
I think Eli turns it around this week and drives the Giants down the field and on to victory over the Bills.
Who's right, Princess or MiddletownMike? We'll have to wait for Sunday to find out.

Princess The Camel Chooses Jets over Pats in Week 5

Why is Princess taking the Jets over the Pats you ask after the Jets have lost their last 2 games? Well is seems that Princess is a big fan of the Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan and has this to say about him, "... Good old Rex Ryan has been jumping up and down, stomping his feet and screaming an hollering all week at Jets practice. He’ll have them ready. The Patriots won’t know what hit them"
Princess may be right about Ryan's ability to scream and holler all week, but the Patriots won't just roll over and make it easy for the Jets after losing last years playoff game against them. This will be a tough game that could go either way and will come down to turnovers in my opinion.
This week I think the Patriots will come out on top in that take away department and win the game handily, so we'll see who is right on Sunday, Princess or me.

NFL Week 4- Princess Takes the Giants

This week Princess has decided that the NY Giants are about ready to start on a roll of their own, she has chosen them to beat the Arizona Cardinals out in Pheonix this Sunday.
"I think the Giants finally got things straightened out John. The defense got it done last week and Eli only threw the balls to his own teammates, not the other team. So he might be on a roll." Princess said after revealing her choice to her handler John.
Being a Giants fan myself, I love Princess pick this week. I hope her 3 week winning streak as well as the Giants 2 game winning streak is extend Sunday.
The Giants certainly put a lot of critics to rest last week with their win over the Philadelphia Eagles it would be a real shame if they lost this game to the Cardinals and let all the naysayers and doubters return.

Princess Says, Raiders Over The Jets This Week
After starting the 2001 NFL season off with a perfect 2-0 record pick record, this week Princess the Camel is picking the underdog Oakland Raiders to beat the NY Jets in their match-up out west this weekend.
When questioned by her handler John, as to why Princess decided to go out on a limb and make what would seems to be a reach in picking the Raiders this weekend Princess responded, "Hey, John, I’m pretty good at making a long stretch... Besides, what did you say earlier? “On any given Sunday”!!"
Is this a good pick by Princess; should we bet the house on it?
What do you think? I happen to agree, the Raiders are playing some good ball so far this season and I think they could surprise the Jets and pull this one off.

Princess The Camel Picks Jets Over Jags For Week Two

This is Princesses fourth season of making game predictions and if you have followed her through the years like I have, you know that she has an uncanny ability at picking game winners. That's why I try and devote post to her picks each week during the NFL season.
To open the season last week, Princess correctly chose the NY Jets to beat the Dallas Cowboy on Sunday night.
This week Princess goes to the well again and chooses the NY Jets to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars, having this to say of the Jets and their coach Rex Ryan after coming back from a 10 point deficit to beat the Cowboys, "...whatever he's selling, his players are buying, and they are playing real hard for him....".
That seems like a good enough reason for me, now let's see if it pans out on Sunday.

Same Old Jets - Princess's Prediction Comes True

Unfortunately for Jets fan all around the Country, Princess the Camel got this one correct. On Friday, the prognosticating camel of Popcorn Park Zoo, picked the Steelers to defeat the Jets in the NFL's AFC Title game.
I think Princess was onto something, maybe all that trash talking by Rex Ryan and the hype that came from being on HBO's sports anthology show "Hard Knocks" earlier this season was just to much to bare. Maybe now, Ryan has had that chip knocked off his shoulder and has learned that you should make promises that you can't deliver on.
Even though I am a Giants fan and predicted a Steeler victory (24-17) which was nearly spot on, I really wanted the Jets to win and extend the football season for all NY fans. It is always more exciting to have a hometown team involved in a championship game or series. Having the Jets in the Superbowl, even though I would have been jealous, would have been exciting.
Oh well, as they say, better luck next year Jets. This just wasn't your time to soar.
