April 18, 2016 Middletown Township Committee Meeting

A rather uneventful meeting of the Middletown Township Committee was held on April 18th. Most of the meeting was taken up by the presentation of a number of proclamations

If you're so inclined, Committee Comments start at 44:12 where you can here what a great and wonderful deal it is for the township to have it's 911 system taken over by the county. This of course has been criticized by many since it was announced.

Public Comments start at 57:31

September 21, 2015 Middletown Township Committee Meeting

As the old adage says, " the show must go on" and that's exactly what happened at the September 21st meeting of the Middletown Township Committee.

The meeting was sparsely attended (as usual)  and was missing both Committeeman Tony Fiore and Committeeman Kevin Settembrino from the dais. And if you happened to be running late and wanted to attend the meeting that evening you very well may have missed it because the meeting barely lasted 20 minutes.  As a matter of fact, if it weren't for NJ American Water presenting a $2,500 grant to the Poricy Park Conservancy for work to be done at Murray Pond, the meeting would have clocked in under 15 minutes total.

After the presentation by NJ American Water, the Mayor stated that the labor at Murray Pond would be provided by volunteer students.

After brief comments by the members of the Township Committee that were present, a  resident from Lincroft inquired about recent surveying that was done at the intersection of Rt. 520 and Middletown-Lincroft Rd. The Administrator stated that the county was performing yet another study to make this area safer. Another resident requested for enforcement of speed limits on roads around Majestic Ave. in the Lincroft section.

February 19, 2014 Middletown Township Sewerage Authority Meeting

Here is a video from the February 19th meeting of the Township of Middletown Sewerage Authority (TOMSA). It's quite a bit longer than the previous video posted of the Middletown Library Board of Trustees meeting that took place the same evening. I haven't had time to watch the full video yet and hope to get back to it later.

The meeting opened up by nominating officers for the coming year and nominating/appointing/approving of various vendors and contracts. The board had to go into executive session within the fist five minutes of the meeting to discuss a few appointments.

Interestingly, TOMSA board member Tom Stokes wasn't in attendance. He happens to be a snowbird during the winter months and phones in for meetings, I really don' see why this is allowed. How can he perform the duties of his position if he is out of town for a good part of the year?

February 19, 2014 Middletown Township Public Library Meeting

It you're a library advocate take a look at the latest video from the February 19th meeting of the Middletown Library Board of Trustees. It's a short 19 minute video so you can breeze right through it.

Middletown Township Sewerage Authority Meeting 6/14/12

Here is a video recording of the Township of Middletown Sewerage Authority(TOMSA) meeting that was held on June 14, 2012. The meeting lasted 45 minutes and a number of items were quickly covered.

Due to issues with my internet connect the past couple of days, I haven't watched the whole video but I've seen enough to get an idea of what was discussed; A few items about infrastructure upgrades, the new ice hockey rink being built at the Swim Club and some cost issues.

It would be nice if TOMSA published a meeting agenda online like the Township Committee does so it would be easier to follow along or know what is being discussed unfortunately though, they don't.

Nevertheless, this meeting video is still interesting and worthwhile to watch, it lets you see how some of your tax dollars are being spent.

"Unfinished Business" To Be Discussed at Wednesday's Middletown Library Board Meeting

Tomorrow night’s (Wednesday) scheduled Middletown Library Board meeting on the surface seems rather innocuous and uncontroversial when you consider the course of events that transpired over the last few months between the Library and the Township Committee over surplus funds, but as we know appearances can be deceiving. The dangers that lurk under calm surfaces may be hidden from view but nonetheless still exist.

Having looked at the agenda for the upcoming meeting there is a discussion scheduled to take place title “Unfinished Business-Update” for line item #8.

Under this title a number of items will be discussed such as the Strategic Plan ,the Lincroft Needs Assessment and the Maser Consulting Proposal. Also under the auspices of this line item, a discussion will take place about the proposal received for engineering work for the Main Library parking lot.

This discussion could get interesting because this project was one of the priorities of the library’s Board of Trustees prior to the Township’s money grab last month, and as such, it was included in the agreement between the library and the Township on the $500,000 transfer of funds.

What make this interesting is that the Township’s trusted engineers of choice, T&M, would be the engineers on this project with no options given to the library for consideration of other firms, which means no competitive bidding on the project that could reduce costs and no say in the final design or outcome of the project by the library trustees.

So the question is, who will be watching out to ensure that the parking lot expansion project will be done properly and in a cost efficient manner? This is the first test for the Township to see if it can be trusted to do what’s right with the monies that will be given it by the library when the funds are finally transferred in the near future.

If you’re interested in attending the meeting it begins at 7:00pm and will be held in the Community Meeting Room of the Main Branch located on New Monmouth Road.
