Shameless Plug
Available on newstands now is the latest edition of the Two Rivers Times. I was interviewed by reporter John Burton and asked my opinion on this year's upcoming election. Specially, what I thought the roll of Monmouth County would play in this year's Governor's race between Phil Murphy (Middletown) and Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno (Monmouth Beach), both Monmouth County residents. And whether or not this years' governor's race, only 1 of 2 in the nation this year - the other being Virginia, would garner any national attention and/or be seen as a referendum on Chris Christie or Donald Trump.

Buono Gets The Last Word W/ Lawrence O'Donnell
NJ State Senator and Democratic candidate for NJ Governor, Barabra Buono appeared last night for an exclusive interview on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC last tonight. The interview was Buono's first appearance on a national news program where she gave a passionate introduction to herself not only NJ voters that may have tuned into the program, but also to viewers from around the nation.
If you haven't heard Senator Buono tell her story about why she is running for governor, watch the video. Her story of overcoming adversity in life, the loss of her father at the age of 19, going to college and being unable to find a job then having to rely on food stamps for a short while to help make ends meet, is an inspirational and a classic American success story.
Voters will have a clear choice come November, Senator Buono is the anti-Christie. There are stark differences between herself and our current governor that residents of this state will be hearing over the next 8 months, starting with this video.

Governor Christie supports, his idea of jump-starting the economy is to propose a trickle-down income tax cut last area. and me and his budget addressed this year, he stated his support for it again. I support property tax cuts for everyone else. you know, he coddles millionaires while the rest of new jerseyans are struggling under the highest property taxes in the nation. And our state is unfortunately, and I hate to say this, but we are at the bottom of the barrel in economic growth. we're number 47. So I would have is an economic plan to pull New Jersey out of the dire straits we're in. This governor's economic message was a campaign speech. He's in denial about our economy. Either he doesn't realize or he doesn't care about the middle class and the working poor in NewJersey, who are struggling to make ends meet. I mean, he's out of touch. He actually vetoed a minimum wage increase..." - Barbara Buono

Video: SARAH PALIN BOOK SIGNING - Interviews with Supporters
On November 20, 2009, Sarah Palin visited Columbus, OH as part of her book signing tour for "Going Rogue." When her supporters were asked broad questions about why they why they thought she should be president, the responses were vague: She's "real." She'll "stick up for America."
THERE ARE UNINFORMED OBAMA SUPPORTERS, TOO
It has been said in comments that we would find similarly talking point-driven, substance-less supporters at an Obama rally, and we agree. But no politician has emerged on the national stage as undefined and unqualified as Sarah Palin, and her public persona--which is anti-intellectual by definition--discourages substance. Instead, we get winking. One could hardly imagine her giving a complex speech about race in America, or speaking eloquently about our country's relations with Islam. Not just because she couldn't write such a speech (Obama has speech-writers, of course) but because she wouldn't--such necessarily academic discussion is antithetical to the persona she's created for herself and that her supporters have come to love.
CHERRY-PICKING
As for accusations of cherry picking, which are commonly thrown at interview-based videos, it simply isn't what we did. We interviewed only a few more people than ended up in the video, not hundreds, and what was cut was done for time purposes. The people were selected at random--some offered to be interviewed--and we were only there for about 90 mins (it gets dark early and fast in Ohio right now). What didn't make it into the video was just more footage of people talking generically or about taxes/spending, drilling, and abortion, and we constructed blocks in the piece to represent those issues. Of course the piece was edited to be entertaining (this is YouTube, after all, where the currency is cat videos) but we don't believe we misrepresented the attitudes of the people at that signing in any way.

ABC's Gibson stated that "a lot of people" say spending in recovery bill isn't "stimulus" -- but CBO director says "most economists" disagree

Interviewing President Obama, ABC's Charles Gibson repeated assertions that "not enough" of the economic recovery package before Congress "is really stimulative," that the bill "really doesn't stimulate," and that "it's a spending bill and not a stimulus." But according to the director of the Congressional Budget Office, "most economists" believe "all of the increase in government spending" included in the bill "provides some stimulative effect." The CBO director has further stated that the bill "would provide massive fiscal stimulus."
During his February 3 interview with President Obama, ABC World News anchor Charles Gibson repeated assertions that "not enough" of the economic recovery package before Congress "is really stimulative," that the bill "really doesn't stimulate," and that "it's a spending bill and not a stimulus." Gibson made no mention of the fact that these assertions -- which he attributed variously to "some people," "a lot of people in the public," and "a lot of members of Congress" -- have been challenged by economists, including Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Elmendorf, who has stated in congressional testimony that the bill "would provide massive fiscal stimulus" and that the CBO, along with "most economists," believes that all of the of the spending in the bill "provides some stimulative effect."
During the ABC interview, Obama stated that the recovery package "balances the need for speed ... and the need for us to make sure that some of this money is going to long-term investments that will make us more competitive." Echoing Republican claims that that spending provisions in the bill do not constitute economic stimulus and that the bill itself is therefore not a stimulus bill, Gibson responded:
GIBSON: Which leads some people to say that you tried to do too much with this bill too soon, and not enough of it is really stimulative. And as you know, there's a lot of people in the public, a lot of members of Congress who think this is pork-stuffed and that it really doesn't stimulate. A lot of people have said it's a spending bill and not a stimulus.
In fact, in analyzing the House version of the bill, H.R. 1, and the proposed Senate version, the CBO stated that it expects both measures to "have a noticeable impact on economic growth and employment in the next few years." Additionally, as Media Matters for America documented, in his January 27 testimony before the House Budget Committee, Elmendorf said that H.R. 1 would "provide massive fiscal stimulus that includes a combination of government spending increases and revenue reductions." Elmendorf further stated: "In CBO's judgment, H.R. 1 would provide a substantial boost to economic activity over the next several years relative to what would occur without any legislation."
