GasLand II Premires On HBO July 8th & 9th

In 2010, Gasland gave our country a wake-up call. For the first time, our fracked neighbors had a national audience. But three years later, our communities are still fighting for their health in the face of tremendous oil and gas industry influence over our elected officials. So what now?

After the overwhelming response to the release of Gasland, Josh Fox, writer and director of the film, wasted no time getting started on documenting the next chapter of the story. In Gasland Part II, Josh digs deeper into the impacts of fracking, not just on our air, water, climate and health, but on our democracy itself. In advance of the release, Josh has been touring the country, holding grassroots screenings in key areas affected by fracking. The response has been incredibly powerful.

HBO is premiering Gasland Part II on July 8 at 9 p.m. local time. This is the first chance to share this important film with everyone you know, so we can continue fighting back.

Thanks for taking action,

NJEF endorses Buono

The below article appeared in the Asbury Park Press this past Sunday, 4/28. It makes strong points about Chris Christie's environmental record after he painted himself as an environmentalist in 2009 as he ran for governor the first time around. This time, given his move to gut environmental programs and raid clean energy funds for the general budget, no one should be fooled . Many are unaware of his chicanery and still think of him as a pro-environment!
Environmental group to support Buono
The NJ Environmental Federation endorsed Democratic Sen. Barbara Buono for governor last week, even though it backed Chris Christie in 2009. It said endorsing Buono was “an easy call,” given a series of broken promises by Christie and Buono’s record on issues like clean energy and green jobs.
“Barbara Buono is without any doubt the environmental candidate in this year’s race for governor,” said Janet Tauro, NJ Environmental Federation’s board chair. “We agree that the environment and the economy are inextricably linked, while Governor Christie’s policies show them to be mutually exclusive.”
“We need a leader who’ll invest in a green economy, not raid it,” said federation board member Ben Forest, citing the governor’s annual diversion of Clean Energy funds totaling more than $750 million and growing.
The NJ Environmental Federation is the state’s largest environmental organization.

President Obama's Weekly Address 3/16/13: Time to Create the Energy Security Trust

Washington — In this week’s address, President Obama spoke to the American people from the Argonne National Laboratory, which he toured earlier that day, about the facility’s focus on harnessing American energy in order to reduce our dependence on oil and make the United States a magnet for new jobs. The President highlighted his “all-of-the-above” approach to American energy, including his proposal to establish an Energy Security Trust, which invests revenue from offshore oil and gas development in research that will help shift our cars and trucks off of oil. These investments, which are focused on a range of technologies including electric vehicles and advanced batteries as well as investments in advanced biofuels and cars that run on natural gas, will continue to reduce our nation’s dependence on oil, support job creation, increase energy security, and save families money at the pump – all while cutting harmful carbon pollution. These efforts build on the historic steps taken in the President’s first term to protect consumers and reduce oil consumption, including the historic fuel economy standards established which will double the distance our cars can go on a gallon of gas. In line with those efforts, the Energy Security Trust will continue to create good jobs for the middle class as we take control of our energy future.

The President discusses breakthroughs on two issues where stakeholders from all sides, once opposed, are coming together for real reform. On health care and energy, solutions would provide key pillars for a new foundation for the country.
