Residents are encouraged to assist the collection effort by dropping off brush and leaves free of charge at theMiddletown Township Recycling Center, located at 52 Kanes Lane (off Hwy 35). LEAF Drop-Off ends June 1st and resumes November 1st

 Brush collection Guidelines(Spring Collection Only)

• Tree limbs are not to exceed 8 inches in diameter and can be no more than 50 pounds in weight. They must be cut into lengths not to exceed 3 feet in order to fit into the trucks.
• Separate larger tree parts from brush and branches.
• Do not bag brush - bagged brush will not be collected.
• Tree stumps, lumber, plywood, fence posts, railroad ties will not be collected with brush. These items must be disposed of privately.
• Place loose brush and tree parts at the curb no more than 7 days prior to your collection date. Do not place this material on the street and/or sidewalks. This creates a serious hazard for children walking to school and other pedestrians, as well as an unsightly condition in your neighborhood.
• The maximum collection per residence per pickup is 3 cubic yards (the equivalent to twelve 30-gallon trash cans).
• Residents are responsible for brush removal after the scheduled pick up occurs. Brush can be brought to Kanes Lane Recycling Center by residents during regular work hours.
• Residents shall set out brush or tree cuttings for curbside collection no more than one week prior to their scheduled collection date. Violators are subject to fines of up to $2,000, up to 90 days imprisonment and/or community services for improper disposal of these materials.
• Under recently amended regulations, Public Works is also authorized to remove improperly disposed materials and assess the cost of removal and disposal against the responsible resident.

NO FALL 2013 BRUSH COLLECTION; Fall 2013 Leaf Collection Starts on Nov.12th

The Public Works Department wishes to remind residents that there is NO 2013 FALL BRUSH COLLECTION. The next Brush Collection will be Spring 2014. Brush can be brought to the Kanes Lane Recycling Center from Thursday through Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for residents to drop off brush. The fee for landscapers is $10 per yard. Please note residents will be required to remove any piles of brush that are on the roadway adjacent to their property. Violators are subject to fines up to $2,000, up to 90 days imprisonment and or/community service for improper disposal of these materials. Public Works is also authorized to remove improperly disposed materials and access the cost of removal and disposal against the responsible resident. Removal and disposal costs can be up to $1,250.

Middletown Brush Collection Begins April 1

The Middletown Township 2013 Brush Collection begins April 1st in Zones A& B, followed Zones C & D on April 8th ; Zones E & G on April 15th ; Zones J&L on April 29th , Zones I & K on May 6th and Zones F & H on May 13th . Start dates are approximate.

Please do not place material at the curb more than 7 days before the zone’s start date as doing so creates a hazard for pedestrians and drivers. Also do not place brush at the curb after a zone has been collected. Violators will be charged up to $750 for a separate individual collection. Leaves will not be collected until Fall 2013 but are accepted at the Township Recycling Center, 52 Kanes Lane, until June 1st. Memorial Day Parade – Monday, May 28, 10 am
The Leonardo American Legion Memorial Post 338 will host the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28th at 10 am.

Parade Route: Leonardville Rd. to Appleton Ave. to Center Ave. to Brevent Ave. Turn right onto Highland Ave; left on Leonard Avenue and right on Viola Ave. to the Post Home on Route 36. Parade scheduled to end about 11:30 a.m. The annual parade is held in cooperation with Middletown Township.


Health Dept Offers TDAP Vaccine for $5 until June 1, 2012
The Middletown Township Health Department is offering the TDap Vaccine which includes Tetanus, Diphtheria, and acellular Pertussis, for a special price of just $5 until June 1, 2012.

WHO NEEDS THE TDaP VACCINE?

You are entering the 6th grade.
You are between the ages of 11-12.
You never received TDaP before and are due for your next Tetanus & Diphtheria (TD) booster. (Needed roughly every 10 years.)
You are in close contact with infants under the age of 12 months. (New mothers, fathers, daycare workers, grandparents, babysitters, healthcare workers etc.)
You got a severe cut or burn, protection after a wound.
Contact the Middletown Health Department at 732-615-2094 to get the vaccine before June 1, 2012.


Online Parking Permit Renewals Begin June 1, 2021
A renewal letter is sent out to the permit holders at the address on file with the Township Clerk’s Office. If you move, you must notify the Clerk’s Office so you will receive the renewal information. You may renew on line using a credit card or ACH check payment, or you may download the application and return it with a check and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for returning the permit to you.

Mtown-Lincroft Rd Construction: Overnight Road Closure
Middletown-Lincroft Road will be closed between Dwight Road and West Front Street from 7 pm until 4 am. Drivers should follow the posted detours or plan alternate routes. There will be no further daytime closure related to this project.

The final phase of water main construction on the roadway is underway and can be expected to last through May 2012. The project is progressing according to anticipated schedule. The patience of motorists using the roadway and detour is appreciated. Any questions regarding the closure should be addressed to the Police Department Traffic Bureau at 732-615-2045.

Brush Collection Complete
Curbside Brush Collection is complete. Do not put brush curbside after a zone has been collected. Violators will be charged up to $750 for a separate, individual collection. Brush is accepted year round at the Kanes Lane Recycling Center, 52 Kanes Lane. Residents or their landscapers can bring leaves to the Recycling Center at 52 Kanes Lane until June 1st. Hours are Thursday – Monday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed Memorial Day.

Tonya Keller Community Center Welcomes New Director
The Middletown Recreation Department is proud to announce that Tiffany Kenney, a Middletown resident, has been selected to head the Tonya Keller Community Center. Kenney, who lives in the Leonardo section of town, is a certified health and physical education teacher and a sports coach. She replaces Janet Dellett who was recently named Middletown Recreation Department Director. The Tonya Keller Community Center, located at 50 Bray Avenue, offers free open recreation hours for juniors and teens, affordable ceramics classes, a community garden and many family fun activities. Summer Concert Series Returns July 12
The Middletown Summer Concert Series returns this year with a new sponsor and an all-new line up of talented performers.

The Middletown Township Education Association (MTEA) has pledged $10,000 to sponsor the annual concert series. “We would like to thank the Middletown Township Education Association for their generosity in helping to bring this summer favorite to the community,” said Mayor Anthony P. Fiore.

The Summer Concert Series, hosted by the Middletown Recreation Department and the Middletown Cultural and Arts Council, includes four outdoor shows at Normandy Park . Concerts will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every other Thursday beginning July 12 with Jennifer Mylod. The musical journey continues with The Del Angels on July 26; Funktion 11 on August 9th and RB Express on August 23rd.

JCP&L reports that 1,500 homes in Middletown are still without power. They expect that number to be reduced to 250 homes by the end of Friday. Additional updates are available through the JCP&L webpage below.

Emergency Brush Collection
Due to the volume of brush generated as a result of Hurricane Irene, an EMERGENCY BRUSH COLLECTION will occur town-wide. All brush must be placed curbside no later than Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Collection begins September 7, 2011. Do not mix leaves with brush. Regularly Scheduled Leaf Collection will occur in November.

The Middletown Recycling Center is open everyday until further notice to accept brush and recyclables from residents from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located at 52 Kanes Lane, off Route 35.

Road Closure Update
Several high volume roadways within Middletown remain closed due to storm related damage.

Hubbard Avenue- CR 12 is closed between Alexander Drive and Park Place. Local traffic only can access neighborhood streets. River Plaza School is accessible from Navesink River Road side of the road closure.

Holland Road is closed between Red Hill Road and Laurel Avenue. There is access to AT&T entrance and Tatum Park from Red Hill Road side of closure. Residences located on Laurel Avenue side of Holland Road up to MT-34 bridge can be accessed from that end of Holland Road.

There is currently no timeline available for re-opening of these roadways.

Roads in the township that were flooded or impassable only because of tree parts are open. The township is working round the clock with JCP&L regarding locations that involved down wires. Other roadway closures related to Hurricane Irene include :

• Amhurst Avenue in Navesink
• Bamm Hollow Road at Bunker Hill

Middletown-Lincroft Road Is Open
Middletown-Lincroft Road has been reopened and water main construction temporarily suspended. This is due to other emergent roadway closures resulting from Hurricane Irene. Construction will resume when other roadways become available for travel. Further updates will be provided.

FEMA Disaster Assistance Update
At this time FEMA has not received a Presidential disaster declaration for Monmouth County. The Township has been advised by Monmouth County Emergency Management that federal and state assessment teams are continuing their work. Monmouth County had FEMA representatives in the county beginning Friday and will continue with the process tomorrow.

As a result, FEMA will not accept applications for disaster assistance from Monmouth County residents at this time. Currently, the designated New Jersey Counties are Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland County, and Salem County. At this time no counties have been denied Disaster Assistance.

In the event that FEMA will accept applications for individual assistance, you will need the following information to apply.

• Your Social Security number.
• Current and pre-disaster address.
• A telephone number where you can be contacted.
• Insurance information.
• Total household annual income
• A routing and account number from your bank (only necessary if you want to have disaster assistance funds transferred directly into your bank account)
  • Lookup your bank routing number.
• A description of your losses that were caused by the disaster. (Middletown Emergency Management recommends that you document all your damages. Documentation can include photos and receipts.)

Be Alert For Gasoline Price Gouging, Home Repair Scams, Fraudulent Charities

"Tips for Flood Victims: How to Avoid Disaster-Related Scams"

As New Jersey prepares for Hurricane Irene, it is unfortunately necessary to remind consumers of the ugly truth that disasters often attract con artists and frauds.

The Division of Consumer Affairs advises consumers to be alert for potential abuses including gasoline price gouging, home repair scams, and fraudulent charity solicitations.

Gasoline price gouging: The Governor's declaration of a State of Emergency activates New Jersey's price gouging law. This law protects consumers who are preparing to evacuate or taking other action to protect themselves before an emergency, or preparing to recover after an emergency. The law prohibits the sale of merchandise, including fuel, at an "excessive price increase" during the State of Emergency or within 30 days of the termination of the State of Emergency. An excessive price increase is defined as an increase of 10 or more percent above the price at which the good or service was sold immediately prior to the State of Emergency; or, if there are costs imposed by the seller's supplier or additional costs of providing the goods, a price of 10 percent in the markup from cost, compared to the markup ordinarily applied by the seller. New Jersey law also prohibits gas stations from changing the retail price of motor fuel more than once in a 24 hour period. Home repair scams: In the wake of severe flooding incidents, fly-by-night home improvement contractors have been known to prey on individuals seeking to repair the damage to their homes. Often offering low prices and speedy work, they may leave consumers with shoddy or unfinished projects and homes that remain unsafe.

Follow these guidelines to protect yourself:

Before hiring a Home Improvement Contractor: Be sure to obtain the contractor's state registration number. Call the Division of Consumer Affairs at 800-242-5846 to learn whether the registration is still valid, and to learn if consumer complaints have been filed against the contractor. Demand a copy of the contractor's liability insurance policy, and call the insurer to learn whether the policy is still valid. Be sure to obtain a written estimate. Do not sign a contract or make a down payment until you are sure the contractor is trustworthy, and you fully understand the terms of the contract.

Fraudulent charity solicitations: After the March 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster that affected Japan, at least one apparently fraudulent charity began sending out emails, misusing the name of a respected charitable organization and asking consumers to send donations via Western Union to a location in the Philippines. "Investigate before you donate," and follow these guidelines to learn about charities that solicit funds:

Before donating to a charity: Find out whether the charity is registered to solicit funds in New Jersey, or is exempt from registration (certain religious and educational organizations, and charities who raise less than $10,000 annually in contributions, are exempt). Find out how, exactly the charity plans to use your money. Learn how much the charity spent during recent fiscal years on program costs, management costs, and fundraising. Learn about the charity's stated mission. The charity should provide this information to you; you can also obtain it by calling the Division of Consumer Affairs' Charities Registration Hotline at 973-504-6215, or the Charities Registration page at www.NJConsumerAffairs.gov
