Keith Olbermann has been calling out Bill O’Reilly’s lies for a very long time

Everyone knows that Keith Olberman can be a royal pain in the ass to his employers, but the man calls it as he sees it with little to no remorse. Olberman has been calling out Bill O'Reilly for years. It's a shame more didn't pay closer attention to what he was saying back during his MSNBC years, rather than thinking he was a crazy, mean-spirited, ranting lunatic who was obsessed with Bill O'Reilly.

With new allegations questioning Bill O’Reilly’s reporting on Monday, a segment late last year by ESPN’s Keith Olbermann can be seen in a new light. 

On Nov. 19, Olbermann named the Factor host his daily “Worst Person In The World,” but not because of their long-standing political differences. Instead, a smiling Olbermann tore into O’Reilly’s public statements inflating his athletic prowess. 

At the time, O’Reilly had given a radio interview talking about his days as a “varsity” football player at Marist College.

“We were undefeated our senior year,” O’Reilly told ESPN radio host Dan LeBatard. “That was a pretty good deal.” 

But Olbermann had debunked that claim as far back as 2005, pointing out that Marist did not field a varsity team until 1978 — seven years after O’Reilly graduated. 

“It was varsity football in the sense of that we played Georgetown, Catholic U., Fordham, Manhattan, Iona,” O’Reilly said in his defense. “So, you know, look. You know what it is, guys, you know what it is.” 

In the months since, O’Reilly has come under more scrutiny for his reporting....

Gary Carter, Hall of Fame Catcher and Mets Star, Dies at 57

From the New York Times:

Gary Carter, the slugging catcher known as Kid for the sheer joy he took in playing baseball, who entered the Hall of Fame as a Montreal Expo but who most famously helped propel the Mets to their dramatic 1986 World Series championship, died Thursday. He was 57.

The cause was brain cancer, which had been diagnosed last May.

It's Opening Day Mets Vs. Reds, First Pitch @ 1:10: I've Been Waiting All Winter For This

If you are a baseball fan, than today is the day you have been waiting for all winter. It's opening day and the Mets will be playing against the Reds in Major League Baseball's traditional season opener in Cincinnati.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:10pm with the Mets ace Johan Santana taking the mound against the Reds Aaron Harang. 

Unfortunately for me, I will be working today and miss the live broadcast of the game. I'll have to catch it on the replay later in the evening on SNY, I will however be listening in on the radio when time allows. I can't wait.

In Torre’s Book, Rodriguez Strikes Out

I have never been a Yankee fan, I prefer for some reason to place my baseball loyalties in the other NY team, so I don't find former Yankee manager Joe Torre's newly release tell all book that interesting.  What I do find interesting however, is the fact that Torre needed to air his dirty stirrups in public when it came to Alex Rodriguez.

As any baseball fan in NY knows Rodriguez is not known as Mr. Clutch, he is more like Mr. May then Mr. October and according to Joe Torre his presence from day 1 in the Bronx was a major distraction that sometimes caused chaos in the clubhouse.

Here are just a  few example of what you'll find in the book :

...But what stands out the most about the book are the frank, and often critical, statements that Torre makes about Alex Rodriguez, who won two Most Valuable Player awards during the four years that Torre was his manager in the Bronx. At 33, Rodriguez has hit 553 career home runs. He is widely regarded as the game’s best all-around player. He is also its highest paid...

...But in the past year, Rodriguez has clearly become something of a target for people trying to sell sports books...

...Torre’s view, however, has nothing to do with the use of performance-enhancing drugs and everything to do with Rodriguez as a person and a player...

...“Alex monopolized all the attention,” Torre said...

Citigroup’s Spending Indefensible and Unacceptable (Rep. Elijah Cummings)

After reading yesterday morning that Citigroup–which has already received $25 billion in bailout money–is adamant in maintaining its $400 million naming rights to the new New York Mets stadium, I was shocked to learn that the company came to the federal government asking for an additional multi-billion dollar lifeline. Surely, if the company has the funds to paste its name to a recreational facility, it has the money to maintain its operations and keep the 52,000 jobs it announced last week it would be eliminating.

While I understand that Citi is under a contractual obligation with the Mets, I cannot understand why the organization seems to be refusing at the very least to explore options out of that contract. This type of spending is indefensible and unacceptable to Citigroup’s new partner and largest investor: the American taxpayer. My constituents in Maryland did not turn over their hard-earned wages to fund a baseball stadium in New York.

One would think that the Mets would be open to finding a new sponsor, as well. Why would any team want its new stadium, the symbol of a new era of victories, to be named after and symbolized by a company claiming to be on the brink of collapse?

I strongly urge Citigroup to find a way out of this contract and instead spend that $400 million on retaining its employees and restoring confidence in its operations. Furthermore, I encourage Citigroup and every other corporation depending on taxpayer dollars to stop the reckless spending, and I again insist that Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke start holding these companies accountable. We cannot continue to pour taxpayer dollars into buckets with holes.
