On Saturday, September 22, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) hosted his annual Academy Day at Naval Weapons Station Earle, Leonardo Pier Complex. Turnout exceeded expectations, with 200 guests attending. The event provided a forum for students who are interested in attending one of the country’s prestigious U.S. Service Academies.
Representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy provided information on the admissions process, steps to obtaining a Congressional nomination, and lifestyles as Cadets or Midshipmen at the academies. CAPT D.J. (Fuzz) Harrison, Commanding Officer of Naval Weapons Station Earle, delivered opening remarks on the importance of serving the country.
“It is a great honor nominating outstanding students every year from my District to attend America’s service academies and I want to ensure our young men and women have the information they need to apply,” said Pallone “It is inspiring to hold Academy Day and see so many remarkable young people eager to serve their country.”
Academy Day presenters and representatives from the Service Academies included:
- U.S. Military Academy: LTC JeanneMarie McNamara, MS, USA (Ret.); Ray Hapeman, Andrew Campi, Cadets Ryan McCadden and George Ozga
- U.S. Air Force Academy: C1C Staci Rouse
- U.S. Naval Academy: Commvander Stephen Francis Wilder, USNR-R; LT Carlton R. Hoye; Peter Engelman, BGO; Midshipman Jeffrey Trezza
- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy: Richard Starodub
- U.S. Coast Guard Academy: LT Tanya Nalesnik
