Hundreds of Santas To Spread Cheer in Asbury Park December 13th

Asbury Park, NJ – Santa Claus is coming to town again! On Saturday, December 13th the streets of Asbury Park will fill with countless merry makers dressed in fancy Santa costumes to kick off the holiday season in style. It’s a convention of Santas called “Santacon” and it has become a tradition in many places around the world.

Santacon is a charitable, non-commercial, non-political, nonsensical Santa Claus convention that happens once a year for absolutely no reason. It’s your chance to be Santa Claus, a reindeer, elf, or any other holiday character. Creativity and fun is a must! Just wearing a Santa hat is not enough.

This year, the beautiful beach town of Asbury Park will come alive with red and white merriment for the third December in a row, as we gather to sing songs, play reindeer games, spread joy, and give to those less fortunate.

EACH PARTICIPANT IS URGED TO BRING AT LEAST TWO CANS OF FOOD OR NON- PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS FOR THE FOODBANK OF MONMOUTH AND OCEAN COUNTIES.

The global Santacon tradition came to Asbury Park shortly after Super Storm Sandy left destruction and despair in its wake. In the winter of 2012, many local businesses were struggling to reopen or stay open during the off season. Some local residents decided that the area was in desperate need of a fun infusion. So they organized this unofficial event as a way to bring people together and collect donations for local relief efforts.

Madison Marquette’s Convention Hall, Johnny Mac House of Spirits, Watermark, Wonderbar, and many others went above and beyond to not only show attendees a great time, but to also help with donations.

This year, Santas will gather at noon by the Asbury Park train station. The donation table will be located in front of Johnny Mac House of Spirits until at least 3PM. Asbury’s own Jersey Shore Roller Girls volunteered to be “Santa’s Little Helpers” this year, collecting donations and helping guide attendees between locations. We will visit iconic venues around Asbury Park all day long, spreading Christmas cheer and giving back to the community we love!
