Letter: Candidates' Ethics And Lack Of Respect Towards Others On Display

To the Editor:

At the Lincroft Village Candidates' Night last night (Oct.21st) I was able to hear candidates for Monmouth County Freeholders board and Middletown Township Committee. It was a great opportunity to get a flavor of their views and personalities.

One important issue discussed was that of having a code of ethics and an ethics board. The need for these became apparent when several ethical lapses by incumbents were mentioned.

I was further disconcerted by an obvious lack of respect toward their fellow candidates and the audience displayed by the Middletown Committee candidates.

They constantly whispered to each other while a speaker was talking. As at Middletown meetings, Mr. Fiore showed his displeasure by eye-rolling and making faces. It was distracting and reminded me of their frequent meeting behavior, including yelling at public speakers, and of grade school, when the teacher would say, "Do you have something to share with the class?"

Their challengers, Patrick Short and George Mardinly are ethical gentlemen who have not displayed such behaviors, but instead listen with empathy and respect to our citizens. I will feel much safer and respected when the challengers replace the incumbents.

Exactly what questions did Mr. Short answer?

I must have missed that...

Guess he had something more important to do, like wash his hair...

Or his cat...

LOL

Great comeback 8:13...

Where was Mr. Short? Why wasn't he available to answer questions?

Too busy, I guess, right?

Fangs are showing 8:13 and 7:37.

Did it ever occur to either of you that MR. SHORT had an obligation that preceded the LVGA scheduling of this candidates night.

Civility among the Republicans in this town does not exist as stated by the author of this post. The Middletown Republican's behavior was juvenile and disgusting. Witnessed it, so don't try and defend the lack of maturity by either of these two clowns !

About time for some basic training in the skills of leadership for these two unworthy individuals.

Indy Voter -

Sorry, but the fact remains that Mr. Short didn't even bother to show up.

As for civility, your post shows who is civil and who is not, doesn't it?

Patrick Short was out of town on business. He informed the LVGA 3 weeks prior to the forum that he could not attend. What was the LVGA to do, postpone the forum? Of course not.

The LVGA gave Mr. Short an opportunity to submit an opening and closing remark, which he did.

Everyone likes to say that government should be run like a business but when legitimate business calls its perceived as a weakness.

Anon 11:13,,

Your condescending crap is more than most of us will put up with so if you don't like to be called on it, start showing respect for differing opinions.

Or take your opinions over to your pal, Art's blog where you will find those who care to hear what you have to say ! MOST OF US DON"T !!

You have to at least show up in life. The D candidates didn't how up to meetings and one of them even skipped the "Meet the Candidates night."

But, I guess that doesn't really matter because Mr. Short probably already figures that he has no shot in being elected.

Keep up the good work...

it's comedic to listen to D's talk about ethics.....

Really, seems that the only ones in Monmouth County that really have ethical issues are Republicans.

Anon 1:58 PM,
Regarding ethics, the following has been mentioned before: Dr. Gerry Scharfenberger was caught in a lie regarding Shadow Lake during a township committee meeting (on the record forever) several years ago. The Asbury Park Press devoted an editorial to this Republican committeeman's mendacity. I believe it was called "Tongue Tied". Then there was the ethical and legal breech by Republican Ray O'Grady, who went to prison for his acts. There was also another ethical, as well as legal breech by Republican Dr. Gerry Scharfenger when he was caught using Monmouth University resources to promote the Republican campaign of Tony Fiore and Pam Brightbill. He also used these same resources to libel Pat Walsh and Jim Grenafege. His action was more than just unethical; he broke election and tax law and violated strict University's policy when he used (stole) its resources for political purposes.

Mike,

This verbose nonsense sounds like the "cheerleader" and her repeated BS. Nut job is there ever was one !
Nothing ethical about that one !

To the bottom feeders on Mikey's blog, "ethical" is something that agrees with what they believe. Lol

But they also believe that a majority of the citizens in Middletown agree with them... Oh, and in the Tooth Fairy....

Why don't you spend your time on your buddy's BS blog where someone might care what you think !!

I have offered to have real dialog on the issues here, but y'all just want to make sh*t up, so I just have fun.

Makes this place more lively than a bunch of you posting the same self supporting BS to each other, doesn't it?
