Is A New Municipal Complex For Middletown In The Works?

It seems that after years of urging by local Democrats, a new municipal complex will finally be coming to Middletown. An architect has already started on the plans I've come to find out.

I was passed the following note tipped me off on the proposed new complex from an insider down at Town Hall who wished to remain anonymous for obvious reason. What do you think?

"It’s about time! Rumor has it that after several years of urging by local Democrats, Middletown will finally be getting a new police station within a new municipal complex. An architect has already started on the plans. There have been numerous issues raised by Democrats over the years about our existing police station. Issues regarding safety, flooding, mold, bugs, overloaded electrical circuits, overcrowding, and accommodations for female officers and the handicapped, to name just a few problems.

These are not the only reasons the new complex is long overdue. We are enjoying historically low interest rates and with the economy in its current state, we can expect low bid prices for construction. There are myriad funding opportunities available, as well. We hope the township looks into a Community Development Block Grant, the Municipalities Infrastructure Program, and numerous Federal grants provided by the EPA, DOT, Homeland Security and Smart Growth Program, to name just a few. Also a Section 319 Grant Award from the EPA would help mitigate the toxic ground contamination resulting from leaking underground storage tanks, which have been removed.
Besides outside funding, the township could sell its excess property around town to raise money. They could waive all permit and inspection fees on the new complex for added savings. The township could also sponsor a “Buy a Brick” program to entice residents to make private donations with the promise of their name on a prominently placed brick.
Don’t let the Republicans in control fool you by saying that this is their great idea. The police station has been in need of major repair or replacement for decades. Years they have been in control. Years they have ignored the safety, flooding, mold, etc. Let’s see when they reveal the fact that an architect has plans ready. Just before the election is a good guess.
The most important thing here is that the police will finally be getting the much needed and much deserved home base to protect Middletown’s residents. It’s about"

You mean, they're NOT going to just STEAL the library's building like they stole just about everything else...the board, it's Director, 750k, etc?

Anonymous said...

Oops..forgot to include the 3 library branches that they stole too!!

Sorry.

Evidently there isn't much left to steal.

Well, the building is still left!

"Buy a brick"...are you kidding? The taxpayers in this town pay for plenty of "bricks' every time they pay a tax bill, pay a sewer bill, pay a fee or have their library funds stolen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What we really need is a brand spanking new group of honest, trustworthy individuals on the TC. That's more sorely needed than another grand stand play by Sharfey and those other slippery creatures just in time for election season.

How stupid can the people in this town be...really ? Do you'all trust snakes too ?

If our TC new what they were doing they would have built this several years ago. They could have included the Arts Center in the same building. The town owns on Kings Highway from Penelope La to Hwy. 35. Plenty of room to accommodate everything and have sufficient parking. Then the $11,000,000.00 spent on the old Banfield building would have been spent much more wisely on a multi-functional building.

So, if the TC did decide to build a new facility, this blog wouldn't become awash in "Pull the plug on this Taj Mahal" screeds?

Is that right, Mike?

Anon 7:45,

The current municipal building is in shambles below ground level and like all of the township owned properties, is in despairer and probably should be condemned due to years of neglect.

Much of the current municipal complex should be replaced but NOT at any cost. If a new complex can be build at a reasonable price and avoid the nonsense which doubled the original estimated cost of the building during construction of the Middletown Arts Center, then I would be in favor of it.

It's hard to believe that this TC can do anything with any degree of integrity. Just look at the record....
the Middletown Arts Center....the additions to the current municipal complex and the only project that came in under budget was the one the Library Director, Susan O'Neal lead,(and this TC tried to discredit her so they could loot $750,000 and close the branches)

Maybe this municipal complex ( Taj Mahal as per anon 7:45) is what the TC looted those funds for, huh??

Amazing how this TC can't find money for facilities the general population needs but they can build turf fields, rape the sports leagues with outrageous fees(guess the jocks are happy as hell with that) loot the library of $750,000 and now propose a a new municipal complex as an election campaign stunt.

Is there anyone in this community that has brains and uses them. This TC has been regurgitating how TIGHT money is but you would never know it, the way they are spending and proposing to spend millions we do not have.

Can only conclude this bunch could not be honest with the people in Middletown IF LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!
Might add...remember who may benefit from bonding in this town.

Add to this, the rumors going around that the Township is re-hiring all of their employees that the laid, plus extra police, and one has to wonder where they are getting all this money...???

And before this is relegated to the dustbin of the recently sordid history of Middletown, NJ...can someone please tell me what Susan Oneal did to warrant getting FIRED from her job?

(I didn't think so...)

Since Susan Oneal was hired at the Middletown Library....

-> The circulation of items has topped 1,000,000 for three (going on four, years in a row) making Middletown library the 3rd most used library in the State of New Jersey!

-> There are almost 50,000 active library card holders in Middletown out of a poplution of 67,000 residents, or so. A remarkable figure!

-> The Middletown library has received in an APP voters poll of Best Library in Monmouth County..

I can go on and one..surely these are reasons for FIRING, right?

And to top it off, The TC has a booklet that they distribute to urge those who work in Middletown to buy a house here, and one of their arguments is that "Middletown has a world class library"....

One wonders who built this world class library? It certainly wasn't Herr Fiore and Scharfey, although he used it quite often himself to get books from other libraries when he was pursuing his PH.D...

Who was it then who built this..?

It was Susan Oneal, and the deposed, previous library board under Randall Gabriellan's leadership.

Uh...why was she fired again?

Anyone..anyone...Buehler?

She was fired by this town's mob, La Cosa Middletown !

Anonymous said...

Maybe then they could share the court with neighboring towns? Now that would be ingenious!

Anon at 2:13

Susan O'Neal resigned her position, even though she should have been fired for insubordination to the Library Board that she reported to. You might not like that, but that is the truth!

Do tell us about rehired employees and "extra" police officers... Who are you talking about and where did you get this information that I suspect is bogus, hmmm?

Has this been announced officially yet, or are y'all relying on Mike's alleged "sources?"

Seems some people disagree with you about this Mike, at least one of them doesn't want your project built.

Guess they want to leave the police in the basement...

Anon 10:26,

This is not "My" project, it's the township's project.

I would like to see it built but I'm not outwardly advocating that it be built. If people are objective to the idea of a new municipal complex then let them be heard just as those that are in favor of a new complex should be heard from. A new complex won't be cheap but it is needed.

Middletown Taxpayer said...

The library branches were needed too!

They are building TWO more turf fields....Debatable if the cost justifies any real need when they bitch about money and loot the library! Satisfies the jocks just because of politics...

The Middletown Arts Center is an albatross....it's costs can never be justified and the excuses for all the mistakes are absurd. They really thought they were going to have their own "little watering hole" there!

New town complex...needed maybe but the money is not there and they only lie and cheat to have their own way. Ethically compromised that's for sure.

Pretty damn hard to have any respect for any of them and each day it gets worse.

Rumors of re-hiring laid-off employees? I'd like to hear more about that. I work for the Township and I haven't heard anything at all like that. As for the new municipal complex? Please God!!!!

Ooops..sorry, it wasn't 4 new police officers HIRED..it was EIGHT!!!
(I thought we were broke Tony! Where'd you get the money..the LIBRARY?)
