Last week's posting "Library Board Approves $338K Transfer Of Funds To Township At Last Night's Board Meeting; Former Board President Gabrielan Speaks Out" has garnered 27 comments thus far. I'm sure that if people take the time to watch this video of the 7/18/12 Middletown Library Board of Trustees meeting more comments will be forthcoming.
Two minutes into the video the Board opened the floor to public comments, it was then that former Board President, Randall Gabriellan, addressed the Board and wondered why they were not doing their due diligence in supporting the Library in which they oversee.
Linda Baum followed Mr. Gabrielan, she pointed out that the increases and chargebacks that the Township of Middletown was requesting the Library reimburse the township for were inaccurate and they should be questioned and reviewed by the Library Board before taking them at face value.
The Board later approved the transfer of funds requested by Township without questioning how the new figures were derived.
Here is the meeting agenda for the 7/18/12 meeting and the minutes from the June meeting of the Library Board of Trustees.

A look at the overflowing crowd shows how important this issue was to the citizens of Middletown!
The Board also voted unanimously in favor of the revised budget. I guess the resigned board member has very little influence left - not one vote!
I predicted these events. I told y'all that the Director would change her tune - it happened. I told you that we would not see a continuation of Library staff coming out and making false accusations and snarling remarks to the LB, and I told you that the holdover members would alter their paths as well, hoping to get reappointed.
I look forward to reading Linda's "analysis" of the budget numbers, should be very enlightening...
Legion,
Don't know who you are but you are always so mean-spirited in your comments. Have you considered that both the public and staff might have figured that whatever they have to say is not even considered by this mostly corrupt library board? With Carton, Fiore and mad dog Settembrino calling the shots, why would anyone even bother to put themselves in harm's way or under the intense and unfair scrutiny that you and your ilk subscribe to? Amazing how each time someone makes a statement about anything to do with this crappy TC, you come back with some kind of snide comment and/or accusation. I, for one, am done voting Republican in this town thanks to your TC and a* like you! You reap what you sow and I, for one, can't wait to see you and your corrupt pals get what you deserve. That is, once we get you career politicians out of office! your mentality is precisely what is wrong with this town and country-self-serving and mean-spirited!BTW, you may as well join the library board and TC committee as you seem perfectly capable and willing to follow their orders and do their dirtywork. Shame on you!Hoping and praying that we can get a bi-partisan mix in Middletown to bring it back to the quality town it once was.

I hear you, but I think you don't really understand what blogging and posting on blogs is all about.
It's political trash talking and people savage each other in ways that they wouldn't normally do in public.
The hyperbole you read on MM's blog, the "this is an evil plot to destroy Middletown..." and such, is just that, hyperbole. I know that Mike and I would agree on a lot more than we disagree if we sat down and talked about it.
In this case, Mr. Gabrielan brought that hype out on public - to no effect at all. He deserves to be called on that.
Ms. Baum has also engaged in rhetoric on this issue (aided and abetted by MM) in an attempt to make this a "crucial issue" for the citizens of the town. Again, the evidence shows that this attempt was pathetic, and they deserve to be called on that.
Do I seem harsh? Sorry, but that is the territory we are in. I would not, however, presume to call you the name you called me, nor would I call others personally the stuff I have been called in posts here. You want me to be civil with you, be civil with me.
But I enjoy this environment and can take as good as I give.
I look forward to your continued responses...
Legion,
Fiore made sure he packed the library board after he and Brightbill and the rest of the T.C. had to deal with all of the resistence to take big dollars from the board last year to stay under the 2% cap.
Fiore made sure that he would have a rubber stamp majority on the board to get the money for the 2012 municipal budget that he knew he would need as early as 2011. The raiding of the library funds is the only strategic planning that has ever come out of the all Republican T.C. -- probably becuse it has to do with maintaing political power in Middletown.
The library issue may be more important in the 2012 election than you think it is now -- there is no way that Fiore and 'Silent' Steve would have stayed under the 2% tax levy cap without taking this money from the library. Good thing the bonding $3.1 million for Shadow Lake dredging is outside the tax levy cap.
Anon 9:58 PM,
Legion isn't one person, which is why they are called "Legion". I don't know how familar you are with the Republican Party in Middletown so names like Hinkley, Nelson, Hall, Parkinson, Sentembrino and Smith, to name a few, probably write and sign as under "Legion". It seems as though your exchange was with Hinkley.
Are these names all the Republican "pitt bulls" or just part of "the element" who roam the halls at Kings Highway ? And who are the "snakes" that roam in the grass and what are their names ??
Speaking of civility....when in hell do these arrogant, ignorant,"little men" sitting on that dais at town hall begin to show some respect for the people in this town?? EVER?????
Not many republicans politicians in this town with any class anymore....near to none with the displays of conduct shown in recent years. More like the gang lords then a TC .

So you believe that the Library should not pay for what it costs for their operations?
In the past they have been supplemented by the town's budget. Is that something you think should continue? That property taxes should increase because the Library wants to keep on freeloading?
The library has never freeloaded as stated by the imbecile or imbeciles called Legion.
Library taxes and funding to be raised is according to state law !!!
Get it straight or shut your mouth "low life "Legion before you accuse anyone of freeloading. Look in the mirror because many of the freeloaders in this town are past TC members,e.g. on the Sewage Authority.

I will leave it up to you to educate yourself on the issues, but suffice it to say that we are talikng about the Library noot using the money they are given under the law to pay for all the services it receives and instead letting the town pay from it's budget.
Keep it classy!
Well aware of the issues and firmly believe the Middletown Library would be better off today under the County system.
Legion, you and your thug compadres could not RAID the library funding anymore. In fact maybe what has taken place is against the law. Maybe it's time to investigate the gang lords in the majority party in this town and the legality of their actions. That includes you or "all" of the legion characters who post here.
All of you seem to think you are above the law....look what just happened to that republican crony, the college president. Next case anyone ?? Bid Rig was not all that long ago either !!!
BTW....maybe you need some education...like elementary spelling.
"Keep it classy".....are you kidding me....
Speak for yourselves, classless characters if ever there were with the specimens that comprise the TC today and their superbly classless lawyer (surely one of the more arrogant "legions"....the "little man" with the huge mouth that works(?) overtime !!!
We have a TC apparently so incompetent they need their mouthpiece whispering in their ears before they are allowed to speak.Political theater at it's worst. Useless, the lot of them.
Legion,
How about the Sewerage Authority members freeloading with free health care paid directly by taxpayers via the self-insured program put in place by Republicans and freeloading once they retire after being being on the books for fifteen years -- like Hinkley, Smith, Parkinson, Stokes, etc.
Past TC members and mayor designates have made political careers out of their service in this town and seem to believe it entitles them to "lifetime welfare benefits"
at taxpayer expense.Been going on for decades.
These same people are first to bitch and bellyache about benefits people who work for their benefits get.... by damn that's ignorant hypocrisy but look at the character of some of these individuals.... politics twists people !
A whole lot of moaning and complaining and insinuations about illegal actions - I guess y'all are just trying to stir something up, right? Because no one could really believe such horseshit, could they?
I know nothing about TOMSA. Not how it works, not who works there or what they do, and nothing at all about their benefits.
I do know that Middletown's sewer rates are very low compared to other towns in the state, so I guess they must be doing something right.
Most government employees have benefits while they work and sometimes benefits when they retire. Why should TOMSA employees be treated any differently?
We were talking about the Library Board and the humiliation of the former LB member.
Why do you guys keep changing he subject?
TOMSA "employees" are no different but the freeloaders who never worked there but were "planted" on the TOMSA board ( former TC members) are the issue! Stop playing dumb.It does not behoove you, smart a$$ know it all.
How could you NOT KNOW about TOMSA if you ever read a newspaper or live in this town? HOW ????????
The current drive by the state to rid the pension plans of these part time freeloaders may correct this problem. And that's a BIPARTISAN EFFORT !!!
Dunces like you.Legion, fool no one.
Not "horseshit" either...been going on in Middletown for decades and it does deserve investigation.
Patronage costs money and every rock in town is searched under for the funds for patronage in today's excuse for government here. Don't give a damn who, where or what they hurt in the money grab.
Is Legion now suggesting that sewer rates be raised in the next fund raid to compensate for municipal fiscal mismanagement ??
