At that evenings Township Committee meeting, Brightbill was praised and lauded by her fellow committee members and members of the public, for her years of service to the Township.
At no time during the course of the evening did Gregg Silva's name come up or did anyone suggest that Pam Brightbill would make a good replacement for him (although other suggestions were made about what boards or committees she would excel at if placed on).
It wasn't until after the meeting that Township officials were approached by members of the media about Silva's departure and the rumor about Brightbill taking over for him.
To be expected, no one would publicly comment on Silva's situation and only state that the matter was being handle internally.
Kudos however goes to Sue Morgan of Middletown-Patch for going the extra mile by asking Pam Brightbill in a telephone conversation the following day, if she was interested in taking over for Silva to run the Department of Parks & Recreation.
According to the article that was posted, Brightbill denied having any interest in taking over for Gregg Silva and saying that she prefers to continue volunteering on one or more advisory boards.
The brief article then goes on to state inadvertently, the very reason why so many feel that Brightbill is next in line to succeed Silva by stating, "The deputy mayor's extensive resume of community involvement includes times on the advisory board to the parks and recreation department and other volunteer activities relative to township government and the local school district."
I for one said at the time I heard the rumor, that I thought it was unlikely for Pam Brightbill to take over for Gregg Silva and I am glad that she has now gone on the record denying having any interest, but to be frank, I wouldn't have expected her to confirm having interest either.
We'll just have to sit back and see what happens over the next few weeks concerning the ongoing investigation of Gregg Silva and whether or not he is terminated as a Township employees, before we can place any credence on Pam's denials.

Tom Hall might be in the running for that job, no pun intended
Maggie O'Brien over Hall anyday
The Recreation Department has been downsized to a suspended Recreation Director and an active director of the Middletown Cultural Arts Center with a few staff members. It is time for Mercantante (T.C.)to reorganize.
Last year the T.C. went after library funds and met a lot of resistance. Shortly the T.C. will have a nine member library board with a majority that will do as the T.C. directs. What if a new department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs is created and the library is reorganized under the new department?
Edwin Mejias got the Job
Anon 8:24,
It really must be slow today, I hope you're enjoying yourself up there in Newark ;-)
With his extensive background in "recreation", this would be a good job for Tony De.
Park maintenance will fall under DPW as a sub division,Events will be done on a case to case hire. The arts center will be ran privately like it has been.
Wow, sounds like some logical inside information.
Thanks for stating what would seem to be the obvious.
Now, if you would confirm that Silva will not be replaced by anyone at anytime that would be highly informative.
For a downsized Rec department they have accumulated $41,787.22 in salaries and wages for the past 2 weeks. This can be found in the bill list on page 24. If you look at page 25 it looks like former GOP candidate Tim Sodon is also working for P&R with all of the work he is doing. The P&R dept has a total of over $54K for just 2 weeks.
Boy, talk about Middletown helping its own....
Where can I find this bill list?
Anon 2:12,
If you read the It's Your Town newsletter, you will find the bill attached to. It will be towards the end of the newsletter.
You can also request a copy of the bill list from the township.
Every bill list is a resolution and is posted on the Township website. This particular bill list is resolution 11-295. A bill list is voted on at every Township Committee meeting and usually covers about a 2 week period. You will also see that the Township has paid our contract leaf collecter $230K in this list, plus another $56K for DPW overtime to collect leaves.
What director's position? What P&R dept? The department was eliminated. It was NON-ESSENTIAL -- just ask Mercantante.
So much ignorance posted in so few posts...
Gregg Silva is REALLY DONE! Heard Silva was told by Admin. to "retire"... Merchantante told Parks and Rec staff being reassigned TODAY at meeting..
Call your sources MM about Silv...this is BIGGGGG NEWS! No pun intended
I already know all about it. I am currently waiting to hear from Mercantante about it.
Thanks
