Meet the Mayor Night

The first Meet the Mayor Night will be held this Monday, October 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm at the Middletown Library, 55 New Monmouth Road. Middletown Mayor Anthony P. Fiore also will host Meet the Mayor nights October 24th and November 7th . Residents are invited to stop by to discuss issues related to Township government. Meet the Mayor nights replace regularly scheduled office hours at Town Hall on these dates. Residents can also reach the Mayor by calling his office at 732-615-2024 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Veterans Affairs Outreach
October 22 – 10am to 1pm
Location: American Legion Post 338
Middletown veterans are invited to a Veterans Health Outreach to learn more about their eligibility for medical benefits. The event, hosted by the Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee, will be held on October 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 338, Route 36, Leonardo. Veterans Administration personnel will be in attendance to answer questions pertaining to health needs and to assist veterans in applying for medical benefits. Refreshments will be served.
Halloween Hullabaloo
October 28, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Come to Poricy Park on Friday, October 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a Halloween Hullabaloo presented by Middletown Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, the Middletown Arts Center and Poricy Park Conservancy. Free admission.
Costume contests begin at 5:00 p.m. Categories are Ages 2 & Under, Ages 3-5, Ages 6-8, Ages 9-12 and Groups of 2 or More. Haunted Hayrides begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the awe inspiring Mad Science Show at 6:00 p.m. Don't miss cartooning with the Doodle Dude and a free candy bag for the kids.

Fall Recreation Class Registration
The Middletown Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is currently accepting registration for youth and adult classes offered this fall. Adult classes include computers, karate and volleyball. Youth classes include Computer Explorers, ceramics, bowling and gymnastics. Registrations are accepted on-line, by mail and at the Parks and Recreation Office, 900 Leonardville Road, Leonardo. Call 732-615-2260 for details. Please note that Public Works will not pick up material that does not meet collection guidelines and will not return for an unscheduled collection. Do place materials for curbside collection more than one week prior to your scheduled collection date. Violators are subject to fines of up to $2,000, up to 90 days imprisonment and/or community services for improper disposal of these materials.
Hubbard Avenue Re-opens
Hubbard Avenue has been re-opened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Dam and roadway repairs have been completed and project has been completed ahead of schedule. The roadway suffered major damage during Hurricane Irene causing extensive traffic delays and impact on surrounding neighborhoods.
Holland Road Update
Holland Road is closed between Red Hill Road and Laurel Avenue. There is access to AT&T entrance and Tatum Park from Red Hill Road side of closure. Residences located on Laurel Avenue side of Holland Road up to MT-34 bridge can be accessed from that end of Holland Road. There is currently no timeline available for re-opening of this roadway.
Oceanic Bridge Closed to all Traffic
Oceanic Bridge spanning the Navesink River between Middletown and Rumson closed on October 17, 2011 for span re-construction and repair. There will be no vehicular, bicyclist or pedestrian access across the bridge. Boat traffic will be able to transit the waterway without restriction. Residents are warned not to enter the bridge as hazardous conditions will exist during the project.
The detour plan approved by the county is River Road/West Front St to SH 35 to CR 12A ( Navesink River Road). Motorists should use the signed detours and expect travel delays during the project. All motor vehicle traffic on Bingham Avenue between Rumson and Middletown (CR-8) will be detoured. Traffic can either travel west through Fair Haven and Red Bank to Middletown or travel east through Sea Bright and Highlands to Middletown.
Specifically, northbound traffic from Rumson on Bingham Avenue (CR-8) will be directed east through Fair Haven and Red Bank on East River Road (CR-10) to East Front Street to Route 35 North to Navesink River Road (CR-12A) in Middletown. Or, northbound traffic can take Bingham Avenue south, turn left onto Rumson Road (CR-520) to Sea Bright and turn left onto Ocean Avenue (Route 36 North) to Highlands and take the jug handle for Navesink Avenue in Middletown. Follow Navesink Avenue and turn left onto Locust Avenue and left again onto Locust Point Road (CR-8B).
Southbound traffic from Middletown will be directed west on Navesink River Road (CR-12A) to Route 35 South in Red Bank and follow detours signs to travel west on East Front Street (CR10)/ East River Road through Fair Haven and into Rumson. Or, southbound traffic can follow Navesink River Road(CR-12A)/ Locust Point Road (CR-8B) and turn right onto Locust Avenue, turning right onto Navesink Avenue and then bear right onto Route 36 South through Highlands and into Sea Bright. Turn right onto the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge and follow Rumson Road (CR-520) west to Bingham Avenue. Turn right onto Bingham Avenue (CR-8) to East River Road (CR-10).
Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed in time for Memorial Day weekend 2012.
The work will conducted by the Iron Bridge Group, Inc. of North Brunswick. The county's Department of Public Works and Engineering is overseeing the project. The contract amount of the rehabilitation project is $3,554,380. Additional information about the Oceanic Bridge is available on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com.
Health Department Temporarily Relocated to Croydon Hall
The Health Department has been temporarily relocated to Croydon Hall, 900 Leonardville Road in Leonardo until further notice. This includes Animal Control, Social Services and Vital Statistics.
