Residents To Deliver New "Contract for the American Dream"
To Representative's Office
Rally Wednesday at noon at
504 Broadway Long Branch, NJ 07740
In the wake of the final debt deal that raises the nation's debt ceiling but fails to protect the middle class, local residents will gather Wednesday, at noon, at Rep. Pallone’s office to ask that he continue to stand up for the American Dream and focus on job creation, while many in Washington are focusing on cuts to vital programs that Americans depend on.
The recently passed debt deal, which will do nothing to create jobs, forces deep cuts to important programs that protect the middle class while asking nothing of big corporations and millionaires. And though it does not require cuts to Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid benefits, it opens the door for these down the road via an unaccountable Congressional committee.
“We need Washington to focus on protecting the American Dream and creating jobs, not pushing for more cuts to vital services," said Marilyn Michaels, a local MoveOn member. “The Republicans in Washington are holding our economy hostage in pursuit of their extreme ideological agenda. We need Representative Pallone to continue to stand up for the folks in our community and demand more jobs not more cuts."
The rally will take place on Wednesday at noon at 504 Broadway Long Branch, NJ 07740.
Participants will also deliver to Rep. Pallone a new Contract for the American Dream: a plan, written by over 125,000 Americans, to create jobs rather than destroy them. The Contract was released Monday and is attached.
The rallies being held this week are being organized by the new American Dream Movement. In July, over 800 rallies were held across the country to protest the final debt deal that fails to protect the middle class. The American Dream Movement is a growing movement inspired by protests in Wisconsin and fueled by the brutal right-wing attacks on

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, Middletown Mike. The liberals that you support (e.g., Frank Pallone) have ruined this country by adding trillions of dollars to our national debt. America is buried under a mountain of debt and you socialists haven't got a plan to do anything but add to that debt. Shame on you.
Government Gone Wild
Kelly, You and those you have the same opinion don't know a thing about economics and how to get this country out of a recession.
Would you call the spending that went on during GWB's reign liberal or socialist? He had a surplus from Clinton's 8 years in office.
8 years later, 2 unpaid for wars, and economic glogal melt down, double digit unemployment and you expect the government to do nothing.
WE NEED PEOPLE BACK TO WORK.
That will help bring down the deficit.
Start making the tax burden more equatable by making those that can afford to pay more, pay their fair share.
Look at what happened with the debt crisis and the volutility now in the stock market.
The problem is people like don't see the total picture and zero in on one thing. Yes spending has to be cut, but revenue is needed as well. You get revenue from taxes and you get taxes when people are working.
If you don't understand that by now, take an economics course.
So the government is going to spend its way into prosperity? Is that your plan, Gains?
Where have we heard this song before? Oh yeah, Obama and the Democrats have been singing that song for that first two years of this administration. They added trillions of dollars to the national debt in the process.
And what has been the result?
UNEMPLOYMENT HAS INCREASED CONSIDERABLY SINCE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE. Home values are falling while prices for gasoline, food and other goods are increasing. Our nation's credit rating is falling for the first time and the value of our dollar continues to plument. The stock market remains unstable. Gold is selling for more than $1,700 an ounce. Our adversaries (e.g., China) that own much of our debt can now adversely affect our security without firing a shot. Millions of Americans are now worse off today precisely because of the reckless, left-wing, economic policies that know-nothing and self-proclaimed economists like Ben Gains and Obama advocate.
Kelly,I haven't heard one word from you as to how you would solve our deficit. You attack Obama but don't show or offer any solution to improve our defitcit.
I agree with Gains, people need to get jobs. That should be our focus, and that would help the deficit.
Cutting spending alone is not the answer. That's not a liberal or conservative view.
Your attacks are purlely political and not constructive.
Stop accusing those who are trying to fix the country of socialism and start helping to find ways to improve the situation.
Your comments are purely politically motive and not constructive.
Kelly, Your government doesn't spend its way into prosperity, but it does have the ability to stimulate and create jobs. Getting people back to work gets us out of a recession. That brings in revnue and lowers the deficit.
During a recession, the worst thing government can do is cut spending. It will only make things worse and cause more unemployment.
Cutting waste is another story and there's plenty of that to do.
Stop calling Obama a socialist, it's getting tiresome and only makes you sound ignorant.
So much for stimulating the economy ...
U.S. Consumer Confidence Drops to Three-Decade Low Amid Economic Headwinds
anon 11:11 It doesn't help when congress nearly causes a panic when they couldn't agree on settling the debt ceiling crisis.
It's no wonder consumer confindence plummeted.
We have to pay our bills and create new jobs. If the private sector can't/won't do it, then the government needs to do something about it.
Kelly,
You spout biased, bigoted nonsense and I think you should take some remedial courses in history before you attempt to speak with any authority. The color of the skin of our President is not to be used to judge the man....his qualifications or lack thereof should be the criteria !
History tends to repeat itself and you should understand why before you spout off emotionally.
Much of the debt we have today (we were in a surplus condition under William Clinton,a Democrat) was created during the George Walker Bush presidency and the participation and involvement that administration got this country into two wars and the Wall Street bailout was a Paulson promotion during the same Republican G.W. Bush presidency.
Get real for a change. This has little to do with Socialists and more to do with stupidity and ignorance.
Yes Kelly, deficit spending does stimulate the economy, but not always on the the timeframe you would like.
Running a country's economy really isn't like running your own home's budget- it sounds nice and folky and intuitive, but that doesn't make it true. Since the country gave GW 8 years to show us his best stuff, how about we at least give Obama four before we blame him for the ruination of the planet?
