Crime Scene, Middletown: MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAKING INTO JEWELRY STORE AFTER LEADING POLICE ON A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT

(Middletown NJ) - On January 3, 2011 the Middletown Police received a call in reference to a van stolen out of Edison, NJ which was reported to be in the Middletown area. The van was equipped with a GPS system which was providing the owner of the stolen vehicle with its location which he in turn provided to police.

The van was originally observed by Sgt. Paul Bailey of the Middletown Police Department being operated on Highway 35 travelling in the wrong direction on the highway. Sgt. Bailey pursued the vehicle until Perth Amboy when the pursuit was terminated. The description of the vehicle was then provided to police departments in that area.

While Sgt. Bailey was pursuing the stolen vehicle the Middletown Police Department had received an alarm activation at the Jovi Fine Jewelry Store located on Highway 35 near New Monmouth Road. Upon arrival at the store police discovered that the front glass door had been smashed out and a jewelry case had been damaged and several trays of jewelry had been stolen.

A short time later the Woodbridge Police Department had observed the stolen vehicle being operated in their jurisdiction and initiated a brief pursuit which ended in Newark when the suspect was taken into custody. While arresting the suspect, identified as Eugene Andreola, age 40, from New Brunswick, NJ, the Woodbridge Police Department located the stolen jewelry inside the van.

Andreola was charged by Det. Strohkirch of the Middletown Police Department with Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief, Possession of Burglar tools. He was also charged with numerous motor vehicle offenses by Sgt. Bailey for the original pursuit. Andreola was also charged by the Woodbridge Police Department with Possession of stolen property, Eluding, and Resisting arrest. Andreola is being held in the Essex County Jail on $200,000.00 bail.
