Seeking candidate with college or vocational school and a minimum of 5 years’ experience with repair and maintenance of Heavy equipment, Heavy truck, Diesel and gasoline engines. Basic Welding and cutting torch abilities and CDL are also required. Ability to use Volt/Ohm meter, scanners, Hydraulic and pneumatic test and other various testing equipment is also required. CNG engine experience is preferred.

Position is M-F 7:00am-3:00pm with OT when required

Public Works FT Welder/Fabricator

Candidate must be able to maintain and repair small engine equipment such as chain saws, weedwackers, pole saws, snow plows, tampers, farm tractors, driven attachments and all other lawn equipment. Must be knowledgeable in the use of Volt/Ohm meters, chainsaws and lawn mower blade sharpening, tire machine, welder, etc. Seeking 3 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of various types of small engines. Library Building Service Worker (PT evenings)

Seeking someone that is reliable and can work independently to perform janitorial duties and building maintenance at the Library. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning floors, offices and bathrooms. Keep stock of cleaning materials, set up meeting rooms for programs and events. Candidate must possess a valid NJ driver's license and be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 20lbs.

West Front Street Bridge to close Jan. 5; Bridge closed to all motor vehicle traffic for project duration

RED BANK, NJ – On or about Monday, Jan. 5, the West Front Street Bridge (S-17), connecting Red Bank and Middletown, will close to motor vehicle traffic until May 16.

Pedestrian access across the bridge will be available throughout the closure. Bicyclists must dismount and walk their bicycle across the bridge.

“We are moving into the home stretch with the West Front Street Bridge replacement project and it is on schedule to open before Memorial Day weekend,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “To connect the new bridge to the Middletown and Red Bank shorelines, we must close the current bridge to vehicles and begin the last big phase of construction.”

Drivers should plan an alternate travel route until the project is completed and the new West Front Street Bridge is opened to traffic in mid-May.

Detours will be posted. Westbound traffic from West Front Street in Red Bank will be directed north on Rector Place to State Hwy 35 and across Coopers Bridge and then onto Navesink River Road to Hubbard Avenue. Eastbound traffic from West Front Street in Middletown will be directed north on Hubbard Avenue to Navesink River Road to State Hwy 35 and across Coopers Bridge to Rector Place.

“Motorists should expect travel delays in the area while this work is completed,” said Arnone.

Free Tree Seedlings for Middletown Residents April 16-17

Free tree seedlings will be available to Middletown Township residents in the month of April as part of the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign. This program helps communities replace trees damaged or destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

On Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17 residents will be able to pick up tree seedlings from 9 am to 3pm at the Public Works Department, 52 Kanes Lane, and the Recreation Department, 180 Main Street in Port Monmouth. Seedlings, will be provided in bundles and be available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Quantities may be limited to one bundle per household. Please note seedlings are bare-rooted and are not wrapped. They may be wet or muddy. Please plan accordingly.

Instructions on how to store, care for, and plant them will also be provided. Seedlines vary in length from two to four feet tall. The guides help residents choose the right place on a property to plant a tree while keeping in mind the tree’s full-grown size in the future. Residents should plant the seedlings within two days after pick-up in order to prevent the roots from drying out.

The goal of the Tree Recovery Campaign is to distribute over 500,000 tree seedlings to New Jersey residents over the course of the next five years. It is a joint effort between Middletown Township the New Jersey State Forestry Services Community Forestry Program, The State Forest Nursery, New Jersey Soil Conservation Districts, Sustainable Jersey, and the Arbor Day Foundation. Arbor Day Foundation, FedEx, and BJ’s Wholesale Club provide financial support for the program.

When properly planted and maintained, trees can be assets to a community. They improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood or business district, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.

Letter: Unheeded Suggestions And Mismanagement Lead To Inefficiencies And Layoffs

Middletown is once again showing its true colors of mismanagement with the layoffs of approximately 40 employees. Layoffs might be required, but the employee making the least amount should not be the first to go.

Recently, Middletown hired a supervisor to oversee crossing guards. Why is this position required when the town has had crossing guards for years? This is just one example of the bloated government that taxpayers are footing the bill for.

There are many other cost saving measures that could take place, which might result in layoffs, but will make the town more efficient. Committeeman Sean Byrnes has presented quite a few suggestions at numerous meetings that consistently go unheeded by the rest of the Committee. Some of these are requiring engineering firms to bid on each capital project the town enters into, consolidate the maintenance operations between DPW and Parks & Recreation, if not with BOE also and consolidating the Sewer Authority into Public Works Dept., thus eliminating duplication of legal and engineering services.

Middletown has a fantastic library system that provides many services that could be provided by the Arts Center. These services are so intertwined in purpose that Byrnes has suggested that the Library and Arts Center be combined. This would offset the high costs of keeping the Arts Center open. Mr. Byrnes even suggested that revenue could be generated by conducting a daycare facility there for commuters.

There are many suggestions that are going unheeded and randomly reducing employees from all departments is certainly not an efficient means of balancing a budget.
