Political Wire: Franken Says GOP Senators Are Concerned About Trump

I actually watched this last night, it was pretty good. You should look out for it on aa HBO recast.

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) told Bill Maher that his Republican Senate colleagues privately express “great concern” about President Trump’s temperament. 

Said Franken: “Well, there’s a range in what they’ll say, and some will say that he’s not right mentally. And some are harsher.” 

He added: “No, no. That’s not fair. That was cheap. There are some who I guess don’t talk to me.”

In his latest Rewrite segment, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell suggested Senator Al Franken could have planted the seed “for the best line of the night” in the 2004 book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. O’Donnell pointed to a key section in Franken’s piece, a graph comparing the Defense budgets of Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan:
Horses.

In 1864 President Lincoln requested 188,718 new horses.
And 120 years later, President Reagan – to his eternal shame – requested only 3

“What Mitt Romney is doing now is straight out of the George W. Bush campaign and the Ronald Reagan campaign,” said O’Donnell. “The Franken book reminds us that Republicans running against a Democratic White House always attack the military.”

Franken Answers Tea Bagger Questions on Health Care Reform At State Fair

I think that Frank Pallone and Rush Holt can learn a few things from Minnesota Senator Al Franken when it comes to discussing health care reform with their constituents at town hall meetings. Franken did an outstanding job at turning the converstion back on health care reform protesters.

The video was recorded by a Mr. Dusty Rice at the Minnesoata State Fair and the other day. Here's what he had to say about the expirence:

I got to witness something really special. About a dozen tea party activists had staked out Sen. Al Franken's booth, and confronted him loudly when he arrived. But within minutes, he'd turned an unruly crowd into a productive conversation on health care. The discussion went from insurance reform, to the public option, to veterans benefits, to cap and trade. He made a few laugh and even told a touching story that moved a few to tears. A whole lot of common ground was found.
