Jersey Shore Workcamp Applications Due March 15

Teenagers from across the U.S. will come to Monmouth County this summer as part of Jersey Shore Workcamp VIII to repair homes for low income, elderly or disabled residents. Teams of 5 teenagers and at least one adult leader will do the work. The work camp is hosted by St. John's United Methodist Church and Group Cares.

Eligible repairs may include: exterior house painting (vinyl & aluminum siding included), interior home painting, limited roofing (no tear-offs), mobile home roof coating, mobile home skirting, wheelchair ramps, exterior step repair or replacement (no plumbing or electrical work). Both labor & materials will be free to qualifying homeowners. (Must own home--no rentals). Applications will be carefully reviewed to determine qualification. Fly Flags Half Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day May 15th

Flags on all government buildings are required to fly at half-staff on May 15th, commemorating Peace Officers Memorial Day. In 1994, President Clinton signed a law, P.L. 103-322, requiring the American flag to be lowered on this day as a tribute to the more than 16,000 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. This is the rarest of honors. The only other regularly scheduled day that the flags fly at half-staff is Memorial Day. Like those in our armed services, our fallen law enforcement officers died while protecting the lives and freedom of others. Police Chief R. Craig Weber wishes to remind residents to lower the flags that fly at homes, agencies or businesses on May 15th.

Encourage those in your community to follow the government’s lead as we recognize the service and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers.

NEW DATE! Free Info Session March 14: Have You Been Hacked?

Have you been hacked? Find out at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 14th at the Middletown Arts Center located at 36 Church Street. Middletown Township will present a free information session on what it means to be hacked in today's vast electronic world. It's not just about desktop computers anymore. (Please note the February 23rd session is cancelled)

Middletown professionals will discuss modern hacking methods including phone scams and social media invasions. The evening will include discussion of common scams that are happening locally. Learn how to identify and protect yourself from this major epidemic that has become a normal part of our culture.

The session is open to tweens, teenagers and adults. This special program will be presented by the Middletown Police and Information Technology departments.
