Today, an APP article ("Curley Loses GOP Backing for Race" 2/7/18 ) notes that Middletown's former Mayor Scharfenberger is now a county freeholder. He has THREE government jobs at the moment!
Gov. Christie said that only one such post was allowed, but he did not enforce it for those within his own party, including his head cheerleader Scharfenberger. Will Scharfenberger finally do the right thing and give up two of his jobs?
Gov Murphy, who is trying for transparency in government, should look into this years-long travesty and clarify the policy on government jobs.

Yes, Christie is gone but the remnants of the Christie Team linger on, spewing the smaller government line, while doing everything in their power to get their grubby fingers on every government job they can find. Don't you wonder why people who dislike government keep staying in it? And in this case, bringing their family members on board too!
Governor Christie, during a 2013 town hall meeting in Montville:
"Let's stop this. No more than one public job. No more than one public office. I don't think it's that hard a concept to deal with. It's an old part of this state's history. It should go away."
Wait a minute, didn’t Scharfenberger, Fiore, et al plaster this town with oversized campaign signs bragging about being on the “Christie Team” when the governor was enjoying rock star like poll numbers?
Seems they dumped Christie just like Christie dumped the people of New Jersey when he thought he didn’t need us anymore.
Sharfenberger has become the poster child for the type of Jersey style political cronyism and nepotism that is the reason the rest of the country thinks New Jersey’s state dance is the Disgraced Politician’s Perp Walk.
Scharfy’s day will come, he has been acting like he is above it all for quite a while now. It’s only a matter of time before he crosses the line and we see him on the six o’clock news with a raincoat draped over his head being guided through a crowd of reporters.
Maybe he’ll get to share a room with ex-judge Richard Thompson. I wonder how much Middletown benefited by having Sharfy and friend’s choice for municipal judge illegally divert monies to our town?
Where was the township oversight of Thompson? Why didn’t our township leaders know that he was breaking the law for years? Why did so many local towns all want Thompson in their courtrooms? Are we to believe that Scharfy and friends are so incompetent that they didn’t know what was happening on a daily basis in our courtroom? Or did they turn a blind eye because it was politically expedient to fill our town’s coffers with money they were stealing from the county?
What about all the money that Middletown collected illegally over the years? Aren’t we going to have to pay the county for everything we kept from them?
As always, it's who knew what and when did they know it? I hope Thompson sings like a canary. The prospect of jail has a way of jogging one’s memory.

This creep does not belong in government anywhere ! The master he serves is himself and to hell with the people.One has to have their head in the sand pile if they believe this character has any real character. Politics is his avenue to feed his ego and he'll do anything to get his name or face in the newspaper. Hope Governor Murphy boots his butt out of Trenton......there are certainly better alternatives then a butt kisser like this guy who doesn't care whose butt he kisses as long it seems to advance HIS agenda.He thought Christie was going to take him to Wash. D.C.. .. Ha Ha HA......
Sharfenberger and the Massells are cut from the same cloth. Murphy's AG office needs to indict all these leeches and get rid of them while we have the chance. Christie and the Monmouth GOP run a mafia that must be dismantled. Btw google Tino Fiumara. CC said he didn't really know the guy but 1993 Texas federal prison visitor logs say otherwise.
Was four jobs if he also still works as an adjunct professor at Monmouth College where he was reprimanded for questionable political activity conduct there a few years back.
Speaking of abuses and leeches, include the judge among that bunch for appropriate punishment for their transgressions.That judge deserves jail big time for the people he victimized. Some people will do anything for money. Wonder how much did he got from Middletown ???
The comments on the Massell family are atrocious!! You will never meet a family that is more law abiding than they are. I know Gerald Massell and he is by far the most law abiding citizen with integrity and class! Get off your witch hunt of this fine family!!
Actually no, Gerald Massell is a scumbag who was in with Judge Thompson on the illegal ticket fixing and had a shady deal where he and Thompson were basically sharing a law office and Thompson was paying Gerald's dad rent all while Gerald Massell was trying cases before Thompson, and Thompson was judge and jury! The Massell family uses Middletown Township as their personal piggy bank! Get 'em out!!!
How many times has Gerald Massell improperly downgraded 2C charges to municipal ordinances? Every day he does it and Middletown steals this money from the state. Not Legal!

A president who clearly exhibits mental illness and many in Congress who are just as bad. No real leadership anywhere in the current administration except this would be dictator's "generals"......we are over run by the gun lobby and the NRA to the point it is not safe to send your kids to school or go to the movies or to gather in places of entertainment or worship.

You don’t know what you are talking about. Mr. Thompson may have shared office space in a building owned by Gerald Massell’s father but that is where it ends. Gerald Massell has had other endeavors outside of prosecution so his time in court has been minimal. I know him and know her would never do anything shady as he has high moral standards.
You have got to be kidding me! You think the Massell’s are rich? They are not - they are simply a family working hard like all of us. As for the comment on stealing from poor people in court... that is just plain ludicrous! They are a family who helps everyone - always helping those in need. And they do this in the true form of charity - they don’t broadcast it to the world!! Get over yourself!
It's funny reading the corrupt Gerald Massell post such nonsense. Gerald, we know you're dirty and now that your father is dead who inherited title to the building at 222 Hwy 35? Gerald Massell is a prosecutor in multiple towns, much like Thompson worked in multiple towns. Gerald Massell, Steve Massell and Richard Thompson were and still are very close personal friends. Gerald Massell, get over yourself. They caught your friend Richard. You and Steve are next. The Murphy AG office is coming for you!
