Bye-Bye Gerry: Murphy Fires Scharfenberger

Earlier today PoliticsDW.com posted an article that stated Governor Murphy fired fellow Middletowner and former Township mayor, Gerry Scharfenberger from his $95,000 a year job as Director of the Office for Planning Advocacy (OPA) for the State of NJ.

The reason being given for Scharfenberger's termination " ...was a result of his refusal to endorse Murphy's plan" and his refusal to show at Friday's press conference in Marlboro, where Murphy announced his plan to that would allow residents to pay a portion of their property taxes, that exceeds $10,000, as charitable contributions to their towns, as a way to off set and get around the limits that the Trump Tax plan has placed on the federal property tax deduction.

Rumor had it that Scharfenberger wished to stay on as the head of the OPA, going as far as asking Murphy if he could retain his position within the administration. From published accounts, Murphy was considering it even though many of his advisers were pushing him to get rid of him. I'm sure that Murphy's decision to Dump Scharfy, was made much easier after Scharfenberger, a Republican, was appointed as a Monmouth County Freeholder last week  to succeed Serena Dimaso, who was elected to the NJ State Assembly this past November.

The website PolticsDW is operated by the infamous David Wildman, the Chris Christie crony partially responsible for the George Washington Bridge closing debacle know as Bridgegate that dogged Governor Christie for the last two years of his governorship.

Hi, Mike,
Thanks for the expanded details in the article. I love the title, and was not aware of the history of the owner of the political site. Scharfy will not be missed at twp. committee meetings, where he and Fiore were sarcastic to commentors, especially finance -savvy FOG vice -chair Linda Baum and other women. He once interrupted Courier Publisher Jim Purcell to state, "It's DR Scharfenberger." But, is it really "Bye Bye, or will he try to insinuate himself back on the Twp. Committee to rejoin his appointed son-in-law?

Today we need a cleansing in the WH (Trump and company is a disaster) and we need one on Kings Highway too ! Term limits should be legislated to stop the BS in entrenched careers in politics. Most of the con artists and liars and crooks are dangerous to the safety and welfare of the people. These characters are wannabe dictators........clean them all the hell out and be rid of them once and forever.

Unable to keep a job in the private sector he relies on the public sector to pay his way. I recall hearing he left his teaching post at Monmouth University for a reason that was not reported publicly.
He has done well to feather his own nest and to support himself on the backs of the citizenry. His high paying job that the "rock star" governor gave him will serve him well in retirement. His pension will be based on that 90K+ salary while the great majority of his time in the pension system he made a significantly lower salary.
Pension reform? Not for the politicians. The public pension system will collapse because of politicians playing it to their advantage. The career people, secretaries, DPW workers, etc. will suffer due to the legalized gouging of their pension system.

This specimen is ugly inside and out.....is it really gone from the TC or will it take an act of the state legislature to be rid of it ??

If he gets a pension based on that patronage job CC gave him and the lowly TC salary is not factored in,there is a hell of a lot to address in the N.J. public employees
system. The "freakin" politicians can always be counted on to take care of themselves.

CC made all kinds of disparaging remarks against the teachers while ignoring the greedy
conniving politicians (because he was one of them) and the cops who know how to milk the system. Where in the private sector can you retire on twenty years of service in your early forties......nowhere !!

It's a measure of how small a man he is that he tries to spin this as "paying the price" for not going to Marlboro. He is a patronage appointment who clearly does not share political views with the new governor. But he can't just be honest and accept that as the reason, he has to manufacture something dramatic to try to make Murphy look petty. But this is the kind of political game playing he and his cronies specialize in. In the real world, anyone without a medical degree who INSISTS on being called "Dr" gets a hearty laugh and a kick in the pants.

Seems every idiot in politics today has an "r" after their name. This creep is just another one, once a creep always a creep. Denial is their mode of operation and it starts at the very top of government, with the president and all that forsaken bunch of morally corrupt creatures in his administration and reaches down to state, county and local levels..

The "DR." thought he was going to D.C. with the "Arrogant Big Mouth" CC and we remember all to talk about the "rock star",etc. from our TC (fools that they were), Scharfy in particular just a few years ago ? Why would Gov. Murphy want Scharfey for ANYTHING ?? Middletown and Monmouth County are "small potatoes" in N.J. in the overall scheme of things but the politicians here have failed to wake up and smell the coffee. Hope a day of reckoning is approaching. Lots of our republican politicians are just plain ignorant !
