Letter: Don't Develop Manchester Nuclear Site
Dear Editor,
The New Jersey legislature should take action to prohibit development on and around the land with radioactive contamination at the Heritage Minerals quarry in Manchester township, near Lakehurst in Ocean County.
This area is contaminated and therefore should not be inhabited by humans. Nuclear material does not go away and will cause cancer.
Hovsons Inc., a Neptune-based real estate developer, is putting their profits above public safety in seeking to develop this highly toxic land.
A statewide ban of development on properties with a history of radioactive contamination is necessary to protect public health from a township council and planning board that does not care to understand science, combined with developers who out to make a quick buck.
If the land glows, just say no.
