It's National Free Doughnut Day!

Today is National Free Doughnut Day so if you need a quick sugar fix make sure you get down to your local Dunkin Doughnuts, Krispy Kreme, Tim Horton's or other national chain of your choice.

Interestingly, National Free Doughnut Day wasn't the idea of some mass marketer in an ivory tower looking for ways to increase sales. The day was established by the Salvation Army back in 1938 to raise funds during the Great Depression and honor the female volunteers, who supported the soldiers on the front lines during World War I, serving doughnuts to American soldiers in France in 1917.

If you're watching your waste line and not into doughnuts check out the Facebook page for Entenmann’s. Entenmann will donate $1 to the Salvation Army for every new “Like” on the company’s Facebook page through June 15, up to $30,000. Click here to check it out. You can also enter for a chance to win free Entenmann’s doughnuts for a year. Yum!
