WASHIGNTON, D.C.—At 10:00 a.m. today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) will speak on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to voice his outrage at the decision by Republican House leaders to prevent a vote on the Superstorm Sandy relief package.
In a stunning turn of events, House Speaker John Boehner prevented a vote in the House on the aid package, which would have brought critical recovery assistance for New Jersey. The decision was made late last night following the passage of the bill to prevent the fiscal cliff. Pallone, who represents some of the hardest-hit areas affected by Sandy, immediately took to the House floor to decry Boehner’s move to block the bill.
“I am outraged that at a time when we need it the most, Speaker Boehner could dismiss the need for the same kind of relief has been granted to other regions hit by similar disasters,” Pallone said. “This bill has already passed in the U.S. Senate and must be brought up for a vote before the end of this Congress, now.”
Pallone was joined by fellow tri-state area Representatives in calling on Speaker Boehner to bring the Sandy relief package up for a vote in the house.
Pallone’s comments on the House floor today will be broadcast live on CSPAN in the 10:00 a.m. hour.
