CHRISTIE MAY BE GOING AWAY SOON, BUT NJ'S BUDGET SHORTFALL ISN'T
For Immediate Release:
(Trenton) -- John Currie, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, is highlighting the fact that Governor Christie is skipping town as an staggering $807 million budget shortfall looms.
As news stories highlight, New Jersey’s already-low credit rating was recently downgraded for the fifth time during Chris Christie’s tenure, in part due to the "scale and belatedness" of the $807million hole in the state budget. One might expect that under these circumstances, their governor would be rolling up his sleeves, meeting with legislators, and looking for ways to improve the state's “sputtering" economy. However, if one's governor is the scandal-plagued Chris Christie, that expectation would be wrong.
As the Associated Press reports, “trailing in fundraising, Maine Gov. Paul LePage hopes a visit by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie this week will raise campaign cash - and rally his conservative base.” Apparently, when the going gets tough, the toughs go to... Portland, Maine.
"With all due respect to my friends in New England, right now, New Jersey's governor should be focused on ledgers and liabilities, not lobsters and lighthouses. He needs to get his priorities straight. The budget situation in New Jersey is real and it is not going away," said Chairman Currie. "It is time for Governor Christie to drop the fundraising junkets, and start getting down to business -- the business of fixing our state's troubled economy."

RED BANK– Today, Ed Zipprich, candidate for New Jersey Assembly (NJ-11), announced that he has outraised his opponents, Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande, over the last two fundraising periods. Zipprich raised a total of $21,793 during the pre and post-primary reporting periods while Angelini and Casagrande combined to raise a total of $12,200. Additionally, Zipprich has $42,819 on hand compared to Angelini and Casagrande's combined $37,873--$23,966 on hand for Angelini and 13,907 for Casagrande."
"I am humbled by the amount of support I've received across the 11th district," said Zipprich. "It shows our campaign is building momentum and that voters are starting to pay attention to the differences between myself and my opponents. Whether it's on raising the minimum wage, ending special tax breaks for millionaires, or finally bringing marriage equality to New Jersey, the residents of the 11th district know I will fight for them."

Buono Campaign Raises $250K In First Month
State Senator Barbra Buono has stated that her fundraising effort for the shortened quarter has exceeded her expectations. By raising $250,000 since announcing her candidacy for Governor last month. She has quickly jumped out and has seized the early upper hand over any of her potential democratic rivals for the right to take on Gov. Christie in November.
It is going to take a lot of money to unseat Christie from his governor's chair, upwards or over $50 -$100 million in my estimation. So it is crucial for her (or any democrat) to get off to a fast start, solidify support and raise as much money as possible.
If others, such as Steve Sweeney, Dick Cody or even former EPA Chief Lisa Jackson, are thinking about jumping in to the race, they better hurry before Buono sucks up all the cash and solidifies her backing.
Buono has been under estimated before and has shown her toughness as a former Budget Committee chair and NJ Senate majority leader.
I support her and wish her well.

Video: Christie and Bush: Politics
"And I did it in a completely appropriate fashion and enthusiastically for the President. And there's no mystery to the fact that I was appointed to this job because, in part, I had a relationship with the President of the United States"
"Anybody who receives a political appointment -- I am a political appointee -- there's going to be some measure of politics involved with that appointment." Christie states.

Food Pantry of Keyport Fundraiser a Great Success Thanks to Mallet & Mason
I attended the food drive / fundraiser for the Keyport Food Pantry last night in Hazlet. The event, which was held at the Shore Cafe was a great success thanks in large part to the efforts of Amy Mallet and Glenn Mason, the two Democratic Candidates for Monmouth County Freeholder.
It was a lively event attended by over 50 people, all of which donated non-perishable food stuffs or contributed monetarily to the Food Pantry, a SUV full of food was gathered and more than $1500 was collected.
I recorded the following interview with Mallet & Mason,it's a little to hear Amy and Glenn over all of the people but it give you an idea how lively and crowded the Shore Cafe was.

Obama Raised $66 Million in August, a Record for Single Month
Bloomberg is reporting that Barack Obama raised more than $66 million in August for his campaign against Republican John McCain, a one-month record.
...The haul may reassure some Democrats who have been worried that donations for Obama were starting to fall off. Obama has a greater fundraising burden than McCain because Obama decided to bypass public financing for the general election, banking on the idea that he can raise more than the $84.1 million grant and not have to abide by corresponding spending limits.
