Take A Look At The Monmouth Trump Team, Any Names Stick Out?

Here in New Jersey voting for the June 4th Primary has already begun. Vote-by-mail ballots were sent out weeks ago and statewide early voting started yesterday. If you're a Monmouth County Republican Primary voter this year, you get to vote for a contingency of delegates to the July 15th  Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, to support Donald Trump.

I wonder how many of the names on this listed of Republican Delegates might change their support for Donald Trump now that he's a convicted felon and once again a proven liar? Any local names stick out to you? How about Middletown's very own State Assemblyman, Gerry Scharfenberger (LD13) and his Son-in-Law, Middletown Mayor Tony Perry?

We know that Scharfenberger has no shame and couldn't care less if Donald Trump is a convicted felon or not, Scharfenberger has no scruples, but what about Tony Perry? He's worked awfully hard the past few years to get out from underneath his father-in-laws shadow and to appear as a likable, babyface, jovial everyman, in order to appeal to as many people as possible. However, his moderate persona doesn't back up his many political extremes, which I'll be posting about in later blog posts.

Make no mistakes, Tony Perry is part of the Monmouth Trump Team. Perry should distance himself from Trump as soon as possible before the stench of a convicted felon permeates the air around him and he is unable to wash it out of his pores or cover it up with cologne.

I want to hear Tony Perry say that he does not and will not support a convicted felon for any political office, let alone the highest office in the land, the Presidency of the United States of America!

Monmouth County Republican Chair and County Sheriff Shaun Golden and his Candidates for County Office on Trump: . . ?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
From Monmouth County Democrats
6/10/16

“It’s time for Golden to tell his ticket where they stand on Trump so they can let Monmouth County voters know.”

HAZLET- Editorial writers, columnists, politicians and voters everywhere are continuing to talk about Donald Trump’s racist, bigoted remarks made in the aftermath of revelations that his Trump University was preying on hard-working middle class families and seniors.

Some Republican Leaders have come out against their presumptive nominee for President and some are attempting to rationalize Trump’s statements.

However, Monmouth County Republican Chairman and candidate for Sheriff Shaun Golden and his entire hand picked County ticket have silently shrunk away from the Trump controversies. Rather than let their constituents know where they stand, they continue to put their partisan politics before the communities they were elected to serve in the hopes that voters forget by November 7th.

It’s time for Golden to tell his ticket where they stand on Trump so they can let Monmouth County voters know.

This is what people are saying in Monmouth County, across New Jersey and throughout the country:

http://politickernj.com/2016/06/trump-based-attacks-surface-as-state-republicans-stay-mum/

“We expect office holders in Monmouth County to stand against racism, bigotry and anyone who would take advantage of hard-working middle class families and seniors,” wrote Democratic freeholder candidates Sue Fulton and Matt Doherty. “Donald Trump and his Trump University targeted and took advantage of countless people – and now he is attempting to defend that behavior with more bigotry and bias.

“Mr. Trump is the standard-bearer for their party; we need to whether our office-holders share Mr. Trump’s values, or whether they will put their community ahead of party loyalty.”

http://www.app.com/story/opinion/editorials/2016/06/08/christie-trump-defense-racist-remarks/85608982/

Trump’s remarks were purely racist, despite denials by Trump himself and by Christie. He made a judgment about the judge based solely on his heritage. Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan said Trump’s comments were “the textbook definition of racist comments” — a textbook Trump could fill by himself with his bigoted remarks about Mexicans and Muslims and his sexist remarks about women.

Nonetheless, Ryan said he would support Trump regardless. But at least he repudiated Trump’s remarks instead of trying to rationalize them, as Christie did.

http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2016/06/chris_christies_endless_ambition_leads_him_to_embr.html

He was asked about Trump's novel assertion that a judge of Mexican descent should be barred from presiding over the Trump University fraud case. Because, you know, he's Mexican.

Trump later added that Muslim judges should probably be barred as well.

Republicans everywhere winced. Their undisputed leader was slicing up America into racial and religious fiefdoms, and sowing profound disrespect for the rule of law.
Should black defendants now insist on having black judges? Whites can only trust fellow whites? Christians can only trust fellow Christians? If we followed Trump down this wormhole, where would it end?

Forget about the freedom and prosperity that the rule of law has brought: Let's go tribal.
Suddenly, the comparison to Adolf Hitler made by Gov. Christie Whitman seems prophetic.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, who endorsed Trump only a few days ago, called it "a textbook definition of a racist comment."

Horrible things happen when average people do nothing, when they refuse for self-serving purposes (See: Christie) to acknowledge a truth that needs to be acknowledged. The candidacy of Donald Trump is built on fear, frustration and racism.

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/editorials/2016/06/08/editorial-grassley-ignores-judicial-crisis-and-trumps-racism/85549460/

As Edmund Burke said, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. And when it comes to Donald Trump, there are invertebrates that have shown more spine than (Iowa) Sen. Charles Grassley.

http://www.salon.com/2016/06/07/no_way_out_for_trump_backing_republicans_hes_doubling_down_on_racist_remarks_as_gop_leaders_struggle_to_respond/

“The GOP Trump train was already full of uneasy passengers, people who know he’s a charlatan but are too cowardly to take a principled stand. Things escalated this week when Trump let loose a string of nakedly racist statements about a Mexican-American U.S. District Judge (Gonzalo Curiel) and promptly followed it up with another, equally racist statement about a hypothetical Muslim judge . . . “

“You’d think that time would’ve occurred when Trump proposed banning all Muslims from entering the country or when he suggested killing the families of suspected terrorists or when he propounded birther conspiracies, but nope, this was the final straw. As I wrote yesterday, the time for Republicans to criticize Trump has long past. Claiming an American judge can’t do his duty on account of his Mexican heritage is revolting, but no more or less revolting than a dozen other things Trump has said or done. Hence all this moralizing from Republicans feels flat and empty at this point.
At any rate, you can expect more angst from Republicans in the coming months. The price of hopping aboard the Trump train is going to rise immeasurably between now and November. Trump’s statements about Judge Curiel have been universally loathed, and yet he’s made it clear he has no intention of backing away from them. In fact, as is his custom, he’s doubling down . . . “

“None of this is surprising. This is who Trump has been since he lunged into presidential politics. He won’t back down. He’s going to own every stupid and hateful thing he says. And now, because they opened their doors to him, the Republican Party is going to own it too.”

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/trump-house-republicans-racism-224000

Or, in the case of endangered Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), ditching Trump altogether.

By the end of the day, Trump had issued a new statement blaming the media for his problems, without apologizing to the Indiana-born federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel, who is presiding over lawsuits against Trump University. Trump then declared he was done commenting on the matter.

But the damage was already done.

"I have spent my life building bridges and tearing down barriers — not building walls. That's why I find Donald Trump's belief that an American-born judge of Mexican descent is incapable of fairly presiding over his case is not only dead wrong, it is un-American," the first-term senator said. "After much consideration, I have concluded that Donald Trump has not demonstrated the temperament necessary to assume the greatest office in the world."

Maybe It's Because They Can't Afford Their Own Polling: Monmouth GOP questions Democrats’ polling

(Freeholders Gary Rich and Lillian Burry)
The Monmouth County Republicans are cry foul over the fact that their opponents, the Monmouth County Democrats, are doing some polling. The Monmouth GOP says that Democratic pollsters are feeding negative information about incumbent Freeholder candidates Lillian Burry and Gary Rich to likely voters under the guise of a fake poll, calling the polling a "dirty tick".

I agree, it is a terrible dirty trick especially  when you can't defend yourself against your own record. Crying foul is all that's left to do.

Naturally the Monmouth Democrats deny the accusations.

From the Asbury Park Press:

Monmouth County GOP is calling the latest Democratic telephone poll a “dirty trick.” Democrats say they are just trying to shape their campaign messages for the November freeholder election.
What the two sides can agree on is that a series of calls made on behalf of the county’s Democratic party went out early last week to registered voters.
The Monmouth County Republican Committee said questions about freeholder incumbents Lillian Burry and Gary Rich contain inaccurate information...

THIS IS WHY THEY WOULDN’T TELL US!!!

Brian Froelich
This is why the Monmouth County Republican Freeholders wouldn’t tell us if they received any money from Birdsall- because they did!

It was reported today that all of the current Ocean and Monmouth (Republican) county Freeholders received money from the indicted Birdsall organization. The records show that Monmouth politicians got over $66 thousand dollars and Birdsall received over $4 million in contracts.

In Birdsall’s home of Monmouth County the Freeholders (Arnone, DiMaso, Burry, Curley, and Rich) received $18,200 from 2008 to early 2012. In addition Sheriff Shaun Golden, Clerk Claire French, and various Monmouth Republican organizations received Birdsall funds. Arnone and DiMaso also received donations when serving as municipal officials.

Sources said that donors understood the message to be ‘if you want to work, you better pay up’. And a Birdsall executive admitted that these illegal donations were given to "curry favor" with officials and "gain a competitive advantage" and that they "regularly won contracts" for the company. One article on the subject said that “(s)ecret donations flowed every year like free wine from Birdsall.”

For example “(i)n November 2011, at a fundraiser hosted by Birdsall, the company wrote Monmouth County Freeholders Gary Rich Sr. and Lillian Burry corporate checks for $300 each, then gave Burry another $1,200 and Rich $900 in secret checks.”

And while critics and campaign experts have said that the Birdsall money should be given back, some politicians are responding that the money has already been spent.

Interestingly, Birdsall also gave substantial donations to Manalapan Committeeman and former Mayor Andrew Lucas who was involved in a recent controversy along with the Freeholders. The Freeholders awarded Lucas over $1 million for some land preservation rights. That transaction was widely and highly criticized.

In November the voters’ broom will sweep clean the Freeholder/Birdsall mess.

Club Monmouth Republicans Embrace Redistribution of Wealth…to fellow Republican

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 14, 2012

MANALAPAN - In Monmouth County, New Jersey taxpayers will be forking over $1.2 million to preserve a farm for former Manalapan Mayor Andrew Lucas. Using funds from the Farmland Preservation Incentive Grant Program, taxpayers will provide a windfall to Mr. Lucas, who presided over public meetings where competing properties were considered but bypassed for funding.

In a shadowy business transaction that Mayor Lucas has never fully explained, Diamond Developers at Burke Farm, which lists Mr. Lucas as its Managing Member, entered this “farm” property in Manalapan into the process for farmland preservation approval. Mr. Lucas then participated in municipal town meetings in Manalapan where local funds were available for preservation. Mr. Lucas neglected to mention his interest in this property and his pending application. Obviously, given his conflict, he should have recused himself.

In response, a local resident filed a detailed, lengthy ethics complaint citing the meetings in which a conflicted Mr. Lucas participated. Remarkably, the Ethics Board has now dismissed the complaint. Mr. Thomas Neff, Chairman of that Board, had previously contributed $750 to the Senate Majority Fund headed by then Senate President John Bennett (who is now the Monmouth County Republican Party Chairman). They cite that they relied in the advice of the Manalapan Township Attorney, who was appointed by Mr. Lucas and is a political contributor to Monmouth County Republican campaigns. Mr. Lucas participated in meetings where he disqualified properties for funds that he was also competing for. If this case creates no cause for ethical concern, then we should just dissolve the Ethics Board.

Every member of the Monmouth County Republican Party Freeholder Board, aka. the corrupt Republican Party machine ‘Club Monmouth’, voted for this application. One ‘Club Monmouth’ Freeholder even aggressively defended Mr. Lucas’ role in all of this. These self-proclaimed budget hawks and fiscal conservatives fell silent as one of their own profited at taxpayer expense. Mr. Lucas claims he is a businessman – however his business is making over a million dollars hardworking taxpayers, NOT off private funds. He fails to understand the difference.

GOP Freeholder Lillian Burry Fails Monmouth Taxpayers Over Brookdale College Scandal

By Vin Gopal, Chairman of the Monmouth County Democrats
Cross posted from
Middletown Patch

Earlier this summer, Brookdale Community College President Peter Burnham pled guilty of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money. The web of corruption surrounding this case is just another example of Monmouth County Republican cronies profiting at the taxpayers’ expense.

Mr. Burnham, along with Brookdale Community College’s then-Board President Howard Birsdall and Brookdale’s Board Attorney John Cantalupo, were all close allies and major political supporters of the Republican Party establishment here in Monmouth County.

Mr. Cantalupo served as Freeholder Lillian Burry’s close confidant and official Campaign Treasurer in her 2005 and 2008 Freeholder campaigns.

In this same time period, Mr. Cantalupo negotiated the terms of Peter Burnham’s lavish Brookdale contracts.

This represents a clear conflict of interest, given that Mr. Cantalupo was Freeholder Burry’s right-hand man. Perhaps this is why Freeholder Burry sat silently on the sidelines as the truth about Mr. Burnham's theft was being exposed.

As a result of the Republican-controlled Freeholder Board’s lack of oversight, student tuition increased at Brookdale Community College -- while their college president profited immensely.

This is what happens when a chief advisor for the Republican Freeholders is negotiating salary contracts on behalf of a College President that is funded by these same Republican Freeholders.

It is time for Monmouth County taxpayers to unite against the Good Ol’ Boys Network here in Monmouth County.
