October 19, 2015 Middletown Township Committee Meeting

The Middletown Township Committee held it's monthly business meeting last week and as meetings go not much of interest actually took place. The meeting lasted a total of 44 minutes however, if you take away the 23 minutes that it took to hand out awards of recognition to Middletown Day supporters, Asbury Park Press Readers' Choice Award recipients and the newly made Distinguished Citizens Award, the meeting only lasted 21 minutes.

During the 21 minutes of actual committee business that was conducted on the 19th, ordinances to adopt a redevelopment plan on Pt. Monmouth Rd. (near Ocean Ave.) and regulating porches, lot coverage and accessory structures. The Committee also instructed the attorney to issue a letter terminating the tax inspection contract with Realty Data Systems, which Tony Fiore commented on during the Committee Comments portion of the meeting.

Speaking of Committee Com you have to listen to the comments of Deputy Mayor Steve Massell (39:20). He's up for reelection this year and according to him everything is awesome! kind of reminds me of THIS

Middletown Rabies Alert 7-29-15

The Middletown Township Health Department has received laboratory confirmation of a raccoon testing positive for Rabies. The raccoon was tested after possible interaction with a dog. This incident happened in the area of Millbrook Drive, located in the New Monmouth section of town. Luckily, no wounds were found on the dog according to Health Department Director Rich DeBenedetto.

In light of finding a rabid raccoon, we would like to remind residents about the possibility of wildlife being infected with Rabies. Please make sure all domestic animals (dogs, cats, and livestock) are currently vaccinated with a Rabies shot. Domestic animals that are not properly vaccinated and come in contact with a rabid animal must be confined for six months in an approved pen or facility by the owner or humanely euthanized to protect the family members from possible exposure to the Rabies virus, DeBenedetto added.

Residents should not be interacting with wildlife. If you come across a sick or injured animal, keep your distance and please contact Animal Control at 732-615-2097 immediately or contact the Police Department after hours and on weekends. Remember, Rabies is a fatal disease. The best course of defense is the vaccination of your pets and not handling or interacting with wildlife.

General Election Information Voter Registration & Changes Deadline Oct. 14

The final day for voter registration and/or voter registration changes is Tuesday, October 14, 2014 to be eligible to vote in the General Election held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 (Polls will be open 6:00am to 8:00pm).

Voter Registrations are taken in the Township Clerk’s Office from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the year. You may also obtain a Vote by Mail Ballot application at the Office of the Township Clerk. If you have any questions regarding the General Election or any Election process please call the Township Clerk’s Office at 732-615-2015 or email townclerk@middletownnj.org.

Also:

Monmouth County Residents living outside of Middletown may register at the Monmouth County Voter Registration Office, 300 Halls Mill Road in Freehold Township from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. The office will remain open until 9 PM on Oct. 14. Residents can also register at their local municipal clerk’s office during business hours.

Those wishing to register by mail can download the NJ voter registration application from the county clerk’s website here.

A driver’s license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number must be entered on the NJ Voter Registration form.

To be eligible to register, you must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age by Nov. 4.

Wilson Avenue Scheduled For Improvement in 2014

Wilson Avenue is the latest township thoroughfare slated to be repaved this year.

The Township Committee approved a contract at their September meeting to improve Wilson Avenue from Cherry Tree Farm Road to Highway 36. This well-traveled road was heavily damaged by the elements this past winter. The contract also includes reconstruction of a section of nearby Maple Street, said Mayor Stephanie C. Murray, noting both streets are scheduled to be completed by year’s end.

Meanwhile Liberty Street, located between Conover Avenue and Church Street in Middletown Village, is currently being reconstructed with new pavement and historic peanut stone curbs. In the Hillside section, the gravel portion of Farview Avenue will be paved, according to Township Engineer Ted Maloney.

Township roads already paved this summer include the second phase of Murphy Road as well as Sunrise Place in River Plaza, Smoke Tree Terrace in Shady Oaks, Irving Place and Edward Street in Belford, Monmouth Avenue and Tan Vat Road in Navesink, Weekhawken Avenue and Hegel Place in North Middletown, Chapel Hill Road from Lombardi Court to Independence Drive, and Pine Street from Hwy 35 to Stephenville Boulevard, he said....
