Asbury Park Press Endorses GOP Incumbents in LD 13 But Suggests Democrat Friedman As "Excellent Alternative"

For the past 10 days or so the Asbury Park Press has been issuing their endorsements of various candidates for this year's November 5th election and as usual, much of their reasoning has often been convoluted and contradictory.

Such is the case in the 13th Legislative District where the APP suggested that voters have an "excellent alternative" in Democrat Allison Friedman while trying very hard to justify their choice to endorse the GOP incumbents Joe Kyrillos, Amy Handlin and Declan O'Scanlon, all of whom at one time or another, have supported extreme right-wing and Tea Party agendas that have run against the middle class, minorities, women and blue collared workers.

The APP had this to say about Friedman in a somewhat back-handed endorsement of her candidacy. After all, she has some ideas, not just complaints:

"...For those unhappy with either of the two Assembly incumbents, Friedman provides an excellent alternative. She might well be the strongest Democratic challenger in any of the six Shore-area legislative races.

Friedman has clearly articulated ideas and suggestions that would benefit both the poor and middle class in New Jersey, including the need for bail reform to limit the cost to Monmouth County of incarcerating people accused of low-level crimes who cannot afford to post bail..."

Aberdeen, NJ (August 2, 2013) – Democratic candidate Allison Friedman garnered another important endorsement this Friday as Planned Parenthood has endorsed Democratic candidate for New Jersey State Assembly in the 13th Legislative District.

"At a time when women in New Jersey have the security of their health care shaken by underfunding from Governor Christie and the Republicans, it is an honor and a privilege to earn the endorsement of Planned Parenthood," said Friedman of the endorsement. “For decades, Planned Parenthood has provided quality health care for nearly 83,000 women a year in New Jersey. Among the quality services provided are mammograms, screenings for cervical and ovarian cancer and testing for endometriosis. I am proud to have their endorsement.”

The 13th Legislative District includes the following municipalities in Monmouth County: Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Fair Haven, Hazlet, Highlands, Holmdel, Keansburg, Keyport, Little Silver, Marlboro, Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Rumson, Sea Bright and Union Beach.

U.S. SUPREME COURT EFFECTIVELY OVERTURNS GOVERNOR CHRISTIE

Aberdeen, NJ – Allison Friedman, Esq. And Matthew Morehead applaud the United states Supreme Court on its decision to strike down provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act pursuant to our Constitution's Equal Protection clause,proving once again that equality under the law is always the right course of action.

Governor Christie has vetoed the right to same-sex marriage. The State Senate passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage on February 13, 2012. It passed in the Assembly on February 16th. Governor Christie vetoed the bill the very next day and even called for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. Friedman and Morehead issued the following joint statement, "The Supreme Court has rendered Christie's actions unconstitutional”. “The Declaration of Independence guarantees all citizens the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Today's decision brings us one step closer to the goals set forth by our founding fathers. " said Friedman.

While New Jersey was not a party in the Supreme Court matter, “the fact that they overruled DOMA based upon constitutional, equal protection, concerns will effectively bar Gov. Christie from restricting these rights in the future;” said Friedman, and attorney who practices in Freehold, NJ.

Aberdeen Township, (Monmouth County NJ) -- On Wednesday, June 12, 2013, the AFL-CIO endorsed Legislative District 13, State Assembly candidates, Allison Friedman and Matthew Morehead.
