Long Branch- Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded a contract for the Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey to establish a Hospital Improvement Innovation Network, to develop best practices in the reduction of hospital-acquired infections, diagnostic errors, and costly readmissions. The contract is part of $347 million awarded to 16 national, regional, or state hospital associations, Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) and health system organizations as part of their participation in the Hospital Improvement Innovation Network program.
“My colleagues and I worked to ensure that the Affordable Care Act took concrete steps towards improving the quality of healthcare in our country,” said Pallone. “This project will help ensure that patients leave New Jersey hospitals healthier than when they entered. Our state’s hospitals have been on the cutting edge of providing quality care and the Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey will now have the opportunity to redouble these efforts as we move our healthcare system forward.”
The New Jersey Hospital Association’s Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey conducts research and educational outreach to raise public and provider awareness about vital healthcare issues and to translate health data to an improved healthcare system.
Congressman Pallone, the top Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, was one of the principal authors of the Affordable Care Act.
