Letter: Neptune Police Incompetent in Handling Murder Committed By One Of their Own

The expressed opinions or views of this letter does not necessarily represent the opinion of the MiddletownMike blog:

Dear Editor,

The Neptune Township Police Department was incompetent or showing personal favoritism when it’s officers failed to shoot off-duty Neptune Police Sgt. Philip Seidle, who had already fired shots at his ex-wife before officers arrived on scene. After failing to shoot Seidle, he was able to successfully murder his ex-wife.

Because of Seidle’s law enforcement ties, the case should be handled by another county prosecutor’s office and heard in another county's superior court.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office should take over the Neptune Township Police Department and conduct a criminal investigation into the conduct of responding officers.

The police in this state are out-of-control and the "Shore Towns" are some of the worst offenders when it comes to excessive use of force, corruption and false arrest. We need better oversight of our police and more criminal prosecutions for misconduct.
