Are Township Audits Really "Stellar"?

by Middletown Democrats

In a few public forums recently, our current mayor, Gerry Scharfenberger, has said that Middletown Township audits have been "stellar". A statement like this causes one to question its accuracy and truthfulness.

A look at Township audits for the years 2009, 2011 and 2012 reveals that it is very obvious the accounting in the Township is not as "stellar" as the mayor claims. Corrective action plans needed to be implemented to fix serious problems which the entire Township Committee voted to accept in order to correct these "stellar" audits.

Some issues include contributions to the fire and first aid units that were not reconciled to the general ledger, the fixed asset reporting system was cited for two consecutive years as not being reconciled and significant debt transactions were not recorded in the general ledger.

Look for yourself to see just how "stellar" the finances of our township are being managed.

Here is a link to documents that outline the Township's corrective action plans that were needed to correct the aforementioned 'stellar" audits.

This man has a history of distorting the truth ! Remember "Tongue Tied For A Reason" ?

Don't think he knows the difference between right and wrong....it's always about politics and compromised integrity.

The Mayor has apparently won in every election district in Middletown. Mr. Settembrino in a;; but one. So much for the "not everyone is represented" meme...

Well the AssHl seems to have accomplished his goal, which was to remove attention from the AUDITS. This is a topic that needs to be fully explored and raised by an independent citizen comprised audit task force at every Township Committee meeting.

One of the reasons Gerry 'Finance-By-Osmosis' Scharfenber and the other TC members, do not want a Finance Committee is that their sloppy financial practices would be exposed on a regular on-going basis. It would be great to see an audit of ALL the financial documents that were, and are, involved in the financial mismanagement of the Middletown Public Library.
