I just walked through my front door a few moments ago and I'm very happy to report that my power is back on. Yea !!!!
5 days without heat, electric, phone or internet service was almost more than I could stand. I can really appreciated now what life must have been like over a 100 years ago when much of the country considered electricity a novelty of luxury, for city folks and a telephone was nothing more than 2 cans attached with string between them.
The only benefit I can say that came out of the greatest natural disaster ever to hit our country, Hurricane Sandy, is that it has brought my family closer together and made us appreciate and love each other more than anyone of us could have known was possible previously.
Getting back to the basics was a gift that we will all treasure and it has made us stronger.
There is definitely something to be said about gathering your family around a table at night, with a deck of cards or an old board game, lit only by the light of a lantern or a candle; It brings everyone together in a way that has been sorely missing in today's society and it brought me back to my childhood when all they was to do was go outside and play or watch whatever your father or mother was watching on 1 of only 13 TV channels.
I hope that the power is turned on soon for the rest of you who have been adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy. But while the power is turned off, I hope you all take advantage of the little pleasures in life and reconnect with your loved ones as I have with mine.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have lost so much due to this tragedy. Remember, you can always replace to material things in life. It's your family and loved ones that are irreplaceable, so treasure them always.
