NJ American Water Distribution

Starting today, Middletown North HS will be the only active water distribution site. New Jersey American Water will continue to provide bottled water to customers who remain under a boil water advisory. Bottled water will be available daily, beginning Monday, July 2 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Middletown High School North, 63 Tindall Road in Middletown Township.

The company hopes to have the boil water advisory lifted for customers in the aforementioned municipalities by the July 4th holiday, after which the bottled water distribution site will cease operations.

New Jersey American Water customers in the following towns remain under the boil water advisory until further notice:

•ALL Sections of Middletown Township

•Aberdeen Township

•Highlands Borough

•Holmdel Township

Mike, do you know whether water treatment facilities are owned by NJ Am Wat or are they owned by a government entity, and NJ Am Wat is contracted to operate them?

And do you know if the DEP has the ability to fine NJ Am Wat for this debacle?

I believe that the water treatment facilities are owned by NJ American Water and not be any government agency. I believe years ago they were issued an operational license and are regulated by the state.

As for any DEP fines, I don't know what their jurisdiction would be other than to ensure that proper protocols and procedures were followed.

I do think that NJ American has a lot of explaining to do as to why they never sured up the bridge and water main running over the reservoir after hurricane Irene last year.

We'll have to see what happens next.
