7-1-12 Water Update 3

The following information has been provided to Middletown Township by New Jersey American Water.

New Jersey American Water continues to experience a slow, but steady recovery of its treatment and distribution system in Monmouth County. Residents seem to be following the conservation messages that were communicated by you, the water company, and the Governor. Overnight, we did not experience the normal irrigation demands that we usually have this time of year. This decrease in demand had the positive result of allowing us to pump water into our water storage tanks. Having water in these tanks is a very positive step toward normalizing pressure and ensuring a supply of water is available for essential water needs.

Today, we will continue to install temporary pipe that will allow us to increase the outflow of treated water from the plant. These short term solutions will allow us to continue to serve your town water for essential uses, but will not allow us the capacity to supply water for non essential use. We will also be taking water quality samples and working with the DEP to determine when the boil water advisory can be lifted.

Finally, our bottled water supplier ran into some issues this morning that prevented them from getting water to our three stations by 8am. We expect all stations to have a supply of water by 10:30 this morning. These stations will be open until 10:00pm tonight.

Thank you for your cooperation while we work to restore normal service to your town.
