SOS Committee Calls for Support

The Middletown Swim and Tennis Club has provided decades of safe summer recreation for residents of all ages. It is a positive influence in the community; offering a variety of activities and venue for relaxation for families during the hot summer months. The location and diverse offerings of that property are unique and decisions made regarding it will affect the entire community, not just the members. Help keep Middletown a family town.

Though some members may have made alternate plans this year, their support is both needed and welcomed. It can best be delivered by attending the township meeting, Monday, March 5, 2012, at 8:00, to assist in protecting the future of the swim club for families and the community.

Come to the Middletown Township Committee Workshop Meeting on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Town Hall, One King's Highway, Middletown, N.J. 07748, to hear the agenda item as listed on the meeting agenda and presented below:

2012-2053 Ordinance Authorizing the Sale of Certain Property ( Block 607, Lot6 as shown on the Tax Map of the Township of Middletown) Owned by the Township of Middletown, County of Monmouth, New Jersey, Not Required for Public Purposes Pursuant to NJSA 40A:12-13, et seq

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday evening!

Isn't that the signal you put up when your ship is sinking???

And indeed Middletown is sinking...

It appears the town has made a clear decision to sell. Too bad the bright motivated folks involved with SOS weren't called upon for their input years ago. I'm not sure what they can do at this point except bid on the property. If they had a big fundraiser, I would attend.

The strategy of putting off tough decisions to win elections is the modus operandi of this TC. Only when the well has run dry and the only option is extreme, do our self-interested government officials take action.

I attended the meeting and found it interesting that the Swim Club Utility and the Township Council are comprised of the same 5 members! Strangely the Utility meeting(open to the publid) scheduled for 7pm in the conference room had to be cancelled, as that was the time and place for the executive meeting of the Council(closed). Eliminates the need to be in 2 places at once.

"And indeed Middletown is sinking..."

Then get off the ship...

Anon 4:09,
"the Swim Club Utility and the Township Council are comprised of the same 5 members"

Would those five know the most about the finances and direction that the town is heading or should be heading. The days of government owned businesses are over, get over it. Why should the town have to operate a club that only a select few use? Doesn't make sense. A private owner would have ran and maintained the place much better and taken steps to increase revenue and profits. Key word is profits, because there is no motivation for government workers to do this, as they do not get bonuses or extra compenstation at the end of the day. A private owner is watching out for his butt and his alone. Changes the whole atmosphere, when the motivation is changed.

To Sharon from Conifer...
I believe you are not correct about when the Swim Club Utility meets...at last Committee meeting I attended; they announced it would be Wed. March 7.
I may be wrong..but the TC always does a closed EXECUTIVE session before every main 8pm Regular mtg. And doesn't have other committee mtgs right before a regular mtg.

Get off the ship?

Sounds like an answer from a realtor. Sort of a win-win for them if you know what I mean.

The Swim Club Utility meeting is open to the public, even though it is held in conjunction with the Executive Session meeting. They usually hold the SCU meeting before ES meeting. This way the public has to leave and hang around for the regular meeting at 8pm.
It is true the Township doesn't know how to run a business. They recognize this, but never included any SC member in the Utility. You would think that would have been a logical direction to allow real business people run the business. Instead, the TC decided to run it into the ground. This did not happen overnight as the TC has said many times.
