This Thursday night the Monmouth County Democrats will be gathering in Keansburg to nominate their slate of candidates that will be running for office this November.
The only choice that delegates at the convention will be asked to make, will decide who to gets the Party nod in the 4th Congressional race to take on Rep. Chris Smith. Red Bank Attorney Patricia Bennett and Spring Lake businessman Brian Froelich will be looking to gain delegate support in that race.
So from top down, it seems that the slate of candidates will be as follows after the convention:
POTUS - Barrack Obama
US Senate - Bob Menendez
4th Congressional District - Patricia Bennett or Brian Froelich
6th Congressional District - Frank Pallone
Monmouth County Freeholder - Kevin Lavan (Hazlet), Bill Shea (Howell)
County Clerk - Michael Steinhorn (Rumson)
Those seeking County office shouldn't be a mystery to convention delegates, Freeholder candidates Kevin Lavan and Bill Shea, ran last year. Lavan ran for State Assembly in the 13th District and Shea for Freeholder, while Michael Steihorn charmed many in his bid for County Surrogate last year.

"4th Congressional District - Patricia Bennett or Brian Froelich"
I don't know Brian Froelich, but I do know Pat Bennett and I admire her. Pat is an attorney and did a will for me some years ago. Smart women run in her family -- her sister is my dentist. During my dentist's appointment a few weeks ago, I learned that Pat was running for office. The staff recapped this story: Given Pat's background and work with older individuals, she was concerned about the push by many in Washington to cut medicare, not to mention being just about as fed up as the rest of us with the attacks on women and the talk of cutting health services for our most needy. When her friends and family asked her why she was running for office versus being involved in another way -- such as helping out on others' campaigns -- she stated passionately that she felt no one could do the job better than she could. With such a strong sense of purpose and detailed knowledge of the issues, I think Pat Bennett will do a great job representing us.
This comment is a follow-up to my first one above, and is in response to an email I received criticizing Pat Bennett for changing parties some years ago and accusing her of misrepresenting herself as a lifelong democrat. I have not read any letter of introduction by Pat discussing her background, so I don’t know if she has made any misstatements. I have only heard from people who know her better about her positions on some issues, as I mentioned above. I look forward to hearing more from both Ms. Bennett and Mr. Froelich on 3/22. If there are things to be addressed, they can take that opportunity to do so. There may be legitimate reasons for changing affiliations, as people’s viewpoints can change over time. But as I said, I am not familiar with the circumstances discussed in the email, and look forward to hearing from the candidates.
