2012 Proposed Budget Conforms to 2% Cap Levy Law
Represents Lowest Increase in More than a Decade
The proposed 2012 municipal budget represents an ongoing commitment to hold a tight rein on spending and conform to the state’s 2% cap levy law.

The proposed budget introduced by the Township Committee March 19 reflects a 1.97% tax levy increase and a consistent effort to cut costs without sacrificing core essential government services. The change would cost the average Middletown homeowner about $3.57 per month.

In order to achieve the lowest tax levy increase in more than a decade, austere measures are being taken in all departments. Measures include three years of steady staff reductions, significant Township insurance and benefit program changes, and restructuring the departments of Recreation and Public Works,” said Mayor Anthony P. Fiore.

“Middletown’s proposed municipal budget is very lean and in full conformance with the 2% cap levy law,” said Fiore. “Middletown continues to focus on providing core governmental functions at the most effective and efficient levels. We also continue to re-evaluate and re-examine all municipal programs and implement changes that generate cost savings where possible.” Read more

Please don’t place material at the curb earlier than seven days before a zone’s start date as doing so creates a hazard for pedestrians and drivers.  Leaves, tree stumps, lumber, plywood, fence posts, railroad ties, or garbage will not be collected, said Public Works Director Ted E. Maloney.

Leaves will not be collected until Fall 2012. Residents or their landscapers can bring leaves to the Recycling Center at 52 Kanes Lane until June 1.  Brush is accepted year-round, he said.

Also, do not put brush curbside after a zone has been collected. Violators will be charged up to $750 for a separate, individual collection. Visit www.middletownnj.org/collection for collection updates. Call 732-615-2008 for more information.
