The It's Your Town - Video Newsletter which documents the Monday night March 5, 20112 meeting of the Middletown Township Committee has been posted online for your viewing pleasure.
Members of the public out numbered the availability of seating in the Conference room where the meeting was held. This forced many who attended to stand in the hallway outside of the room. Their complaints about this arrangement were ignored by the committee.
At this meeting members of the Swim Club came in to continue the conversation about the future of the Club and the sale of the property (the Committee introduced an ordinance, at the last meeting, to put the property up for auction).
Mr. Don Watson, the person responsible for video recording these meetings, presented the Committee with a video copy of the 2/6/12 Committee meeting, requesting that the Committee broadcast it on the Township cable access channels. He asked the Committee if they had viewed the previous video which he had given them.
Many excuses were given for not broadcasting the meetings but Township Administrator Tony Mercantante stated that he would review the video presented.
Mr. Fiore stated that there were no guarantees that every meeting would be recorded and therefore he did not want the public to miss a meeting if they were broadcast. Other Committee members were asked to discuss broadcasting but they refused and had no other comments.
So for now, only those with Internet access and knowledge of the It's Your Towns newsletter have the ability to watch and view these recordings.
New discussion items for this meeting included the formation of a new committee between the various leaders of the independent sports leagues and the Township that would discuss the best way to utilize our parks and another committee to be formed to review historical properties in town.
Ordinances will be introduced soon for the formation of these new committees.
As a companion to the video, you can download a copy of the meeting agenda that contains the proposed resolutions and ordinances that were voted on or presented during the meeting. A box around an item is a link, bringing you further into the document to that resolution or ordinance. At the end of the resolution there will be a link bringing you back to the agenda. Attached to this agenda is also the monthly bill list, so that everyone can see how the Township is spending our tax dollars.

I don't use the pool club, I don't want my taxes going to a bottomless pit. Get an appraisal and sell it.
Tell this pool group to supplement the pool club if they want it soooooo bad. Holt and Pallone want nothing to do with the pool club group. Ok pool club members you want it so bad, you pay for it out of your pocket not my tax dollars. I'm a taxpayer and don't want to foot the bill anymore. This township committee are saints for putting up the this nonsense. Now these people are trying to make it political because they can't get it for free.
These residents are thick. You can't bleed a rock, and there are laws the township must abide by. DAHHHH These dumb democrats just can't stand the fact the swim club is a losing entity, and the township wants if off the books. That is the right move for the taxpayers. These democrats want to make an issue out of something that is just not there. They look like fools. Glad it's hown on this site just how dumb these democrats are.

LOL- It was Republicans that kept that swim club open for years. Look in the mirror 1:45 and 2:02.
If the TC committee had a shred of common sense among them, this would have been closed a long time ago. As usual, they wait until the taxpayers have been bled to death, THEN take action and make it look like they are the taxpayers champion.
The TC are saints? Oh no, I'm sure you are not affiliated with them. :)
Anon 1:45 Not sure if you realize, but the only way you are able to view a video of the meeting is thanks to local Democrats who reached into their own pockets for a DV cam and tripod, after years of being steamrolled by the town councils refusals to air these meetings on our own public access channel. Hey Anon 2:02, the first night Save Our Swim Club moms and kids showed to a town council meeting this year, they left shaking their heads (And We Voted for These People!) So am pretty sure they meant they did NOT vote democrat last election in Middletown.....
Congratulations to the Dems! The doors to open government are slightly ajar.
I couldn't help but notice that something new at the TC meetings is that the agenda items listed under topics of discussion are being discussed in the open meetings now. Definately a result of the recent videotaping of the meetings, I believe.
How many belong to this Swim Club?
Not many, yes it should have cloed a while back. Yet, they are still whinning to keep it open. GO Figure
I'm an independent just for the record.
To all Anons: Thick? You should really know what has been happening since January when the TC decided to close down the pool. IF you have been following all along THEN you would know that WE are not asking the town to keep the club open, we are pretty intelligent people and know that politicians DO NOT take kindly to anyone challenging them. Basically that is what we are doing, we are challenging our TC to own up to all the mistakes not only with the pool club but with other entities within our town. The TC should have a better handle on their books....they are a MESS! It would be nice to get a straight answer from them when asked about certain monies, but they just put on their politician faces(you can tell when Mr. Nelson gets nervous, he chuckles and smirks...not a very good political face)and lie their way through OR worse yet become condescending.
So far all of you that have something to say about the pool club and the SOS trying to save the club....please know the full story before passing judgement. The win-win situation here would be for the town to lease the club to one of the many entities that are interested and willing to run the club. IT is then off the township's back. TC has stated that they have been in contact with many entities to speak of different proposals, but again they are being very vague...it has been stated numerous times, selling the club is OUR last resort...but we all know that if push comes to shove and you have a person interested in leasing the club vs purchasing the club......who do you think the TC would choose......when asked that question at the March 5th meeting.....once again..........a run around answer....we are not dumb, we know the TC would take a sale over a lease, so much for "selling the club would be the last resort". How can that be a last resort if you have a lease proposal right next to a purchase proposal? So in the future, I ask that you KNOW all the facts, not just your opinion. I am pretty sure that anyone in the SOS has all the facts, for in fact, they were OPRA requested..can't get much more factual then that, unless however, naa I won't go there........So Anons, have you OPRA requested anything for the swim club recently? Maybe if you did, you would see what SOS is seeing.......
I am a taxpayer in Middletown and I should not have to pay for your benefit of a swim club. I pay taxes for necessities and your swim club is not one of them. You want to pay for me to have a pool?
About time to right the wrong af your pool club, it's nothing but a liability to the taxpayers

You do have some very valid points regarding our TC. Welcome to my world and remember it the next time you vote, after all "elections have consequences". For the record I am not a democrat.
While I do not believe that the taxpayers should subsidize the swim club, and yes I know that at this point that is not what your group is asking, the members of the swim club were blindsided. Try as they may there is no excuse for that.
FYI, through my own experiences with them I refer to that as "their need to know policy". If they think it is beneficial for us to know it we will, however if they feel it's in their best interest that we don't need to know it, we won't. Obviously your blog comments regarding the OPRA requests coincide with some of my own experiences as well. Paperwork and apparently the numbers get "shuffled around" quite a bit in Middletown. Don't dare call them on it as you've either misunderstood or are just a crazy gadfly.
We all know that the swim club was mismanaged, Mr. Silva shouldn't bear that alone. He had to answer to someone didn't he? Who heard the complaints/concerns of the swim club members for years and whaqt did they do about it? Some of us are aware of some other
"serious township difficiencies" in that regard which ultimately affects all taxpayers. If you're keeping a list get in touch with me, I can ad to it. It will be indisputably enlightening.
We elect representatives who are supposed to act in our best interest. I personally would have more respect for someone who acknowledges responsibility and accountability and steps up to the plate rather than one who sweeps it under the rug thereby deceiving the taxpayers of this town.
