That's what I am hearing today after being contacted by a Facebook friend wanting to know if I had heard any news about it.
Seeing how it is a Saturday getting confirmation on this through the school district won't be possible, but after asking my son (who attends Middletown High North), if he had heard any rumor about this alleged affair.
My son didn't know any specifics about this incident other that to say it was all over school yesterday and Thursday, the kids supposedly found out about it through Facebook postings. After learning this from my son, I called a few friends who have kids attending Middletown South to see what they could tell me.
I was told that a Chemistry teacher rather than be fired, decided to resign this week after it was learned that he was engaged in a sexual affair with a recently turned 18 year old female student.
I'll post more about this as more information becomes available.

If this happened at Middletown North the stinky stuff would have hit the fan and it would be all over the asbury park press.
Sounds like bad karma for what they did to an excellent science teacher and administrator like Dr. Shallop.
Good ones are hard to find.
KARMA?? It's a case of a horn dog teacher using his position to take advantage of a teenage girl. By the way he is married with children, a real POS.
Geez - they meant karma for the school- toss out a good science teacher, get a horndog. The Mensa crowd must be out of town this week.
From the buzz around school, she did not have sex with him, but it was a case of sexting. After the scandal was unraveled, the female in question posted that she was proud of what she did, making jokes along the line of "Well there goes the A+" and claiming that people are jealous of her. Sounds like she knew what she was doing. Besides, shes 18, a legal adult that should be responsible for her decisions.
"Seeing how it is a Saturday getting confirmation on this through the school district won't be possible"
I'll save you some time Mike. The BOE and the administrators are prohibited by law from discussing a personnel issue with you or anyone. They can confirm that a teacher resigned, that's it, you will not get any further information about this from the school district, and rightfully so.
Now if the teacher involved wants to talk to you, he can. But if he misrepresents the facts he could be dealing with the BOE attorney.
It is interesting that the same people who think the teacher did something wrong when all they have is rumor, still bring up and defend Dr. Shallop, saying he did nothing wrong when all they have are rumors about him.
So when people want to draw a correlation between this teacher and Dr. Shallop perhaps the most important similarity is that neither one of them was willing to talk openly and disclose the FACTS surrounding their situation.
I think they both prefer the rumors, IMHO.
That last comment sounds like the person responsible for starting the process against Shallop. Always there to reactivate the slander. What a shame we don't all have an unelected board member at our shoulder to disseminate the dirt as they see fit.
As usual, truthful info is on a "need to know" basis. There is no comparison between a man like Shallop and this individual recently fired. But as usual, shenanigans by a student leads to trouble.
Anon 10:24,
You are correct, the BOE and Administrators of the school system are prohibited from discussing the matter.
What I meant by my statement was that I could confirm that the teacher in question did resign this past week as rumored and I could ask if they had heard the rumors surrounding his resignation.
The BOE or Administration can confirm that information without violating any ethics standards.
And BTW - I do know the name of the student involved and the teacher.
I certainly hope the press doesn't reveal this girl's name.
What really bothers me is the way this incident is being handled. Middletown has always maintained separate rules for for their high schools Again I will say if this happened at middletown high school north their would have been no cover up, no excuses, and no chance to "resign". But this happened at middletown high school south and god forbid if there was any type of scandal there. Again the double standard is applied.
Why not? she is bragging about it and she is a legal adult
Protect a teacher at all costs. Yep seems that way. The posters here thrive on rumors -true or untrue. The problem is the non-disclosure required when a teacher or administrator is fired, reprimanded or (quits-never happens because they still get pensions & pay no matter what they have done).
FULL disclosure should occur when any teacher or administrator is reprimanded, fired, resigns, or leaves the positions hired and paid for by taxpayers. The taxpayers dollars and our childrens education and well-being are at stake. Full Disclosure should be allowed.
He was a new teacher. This is what you get when experienced teachers retire in droves. In education, as in all areas, focusing narrowly on the bottom line brings you the bottom of the barrel.

What bothers me is that people might actually believe nonsense like that. What rubbish.
Do you think Dr. George found out that there was a problem between a student and a teacher and asked which school it was at so that he could refer to the correct rule book, the North book or the South book?
And when the district calls the police do the police check which side of town it is in to determine what set of laws to use?
You don't like the way it is being handled? My guess is that you don't know a single thing about how it is being handled, do you?
Sometimes the lack of intelligence exhibited by some people in this town is staggering.
The intelligence might have to do with which rule book you read .....
What is wrong with the people in this town?
I have live and had children on both sides of town and I can say for a fact that the BOE handled this the same way if it had happen in either high school.
Right now the important thing is that a teacher the district hired took advantage of his position with a student.
Also he is not married and does not have children and the child in question is acting like she is proud, but my guess is she is embarrassed and ashamed.
