Gabrielan's Resignation Letter

It's been a couple of days know since Middletown Public Library Board of Trustees President Randall Gabrielan sent his resignation letter to the Township Committee. Both Middletown Patch and the Asbury Park Press have written articles about it appearing online and in print, but neither have made available the actual letter for their readers.

So for the readers of this blog and for all those interested in such things, I have a MiddletownMike exclusive. You can read Randall Gabrielan's resignation letter ..... Here

The letter is interesting, the tone of the letter is somewhat defiant. Gabrielan now recognizes that there was a conflict of interest in signing the library purchase orders for his own books that the library was adding to it's collection.

He mentions his dismay over the January 18th proceedings that took place at that night's library board meeting, where the newly expanded, Township Committee friendly, board of trustees attempted to oust him as president and replace him with one of their own who had no experience whatsoever in the issues that effect library matters. He stated that instead of trying to struggle with the new realities of the currently make up of the library board that he decided to step down.

He thanked several in the letter for their past and present positive contributions to the Middletown Library including the 2002 Township Committee that voted to assume the capital expense of the "...total reconstruction and major expansion of the library..."

Gabrielan concluded his letter by taking a polite swipe at the newcomer trustees by wishing that they will become quick learners in the many issues that have threatened all libraries throughout the state and vowed to continue to follow the progress of the Middletown Library.

It's unfortunate that Gabrielan felt compelled to resign his position on the Middletown Library Board, his presence and experience will be missed by all.

What a shame.

When will the residents of this community, politics aside, finally realize what this gang of goons are up too and show them to the doors.

There are no winners here and certainly not the people of Middletown.

Mr. Gabrielan's letter proves that he is a gentleman and a scholar and his love for the Middletown Library will supercede the recent witch-hunt events which have dominated the news. We are proud of his accomplishments in his many years of service and wish him well in his local history pursuits. Shame on the current township administration for their attack on someone who has been such a dedicated trustee for so many years. The library has expanded and prospered due to his dedication.

this township committe is nothing but a bunch of d-bags! Can't wait for them to get theirs!

I share the sentiments of anon 11:58. Mr. Gabrielan is so well regarded in this community that such a small oversight as the one that led to these recent events is hardly a mark on his character. However, the ugly, over-the-top attacks on him say a great deal about the mayor's absence of character.

Now that his schedule is freed up, maybe Mr. Gabrielan should consider running for township committee. If he won and was sitting up on the dais next to Fiore, town hall could charge admission for town committee meetings. That's one way to balance the budget. :)

I don’t think the attack on Mr. Gabrielan will end with his resignation. I’ve heard that town committee members have actually gone to his employer, the county, to spread innuendo. Unbelievable! Will they stop at nothing?! I suspect Mr. Gabrielan has far too many supporters, so they need to make him look worse so they look better. But their plan might backfire. You can’t attack someone of Mr. Gabrielan’s caliber and come off smelling like roses. The town did the same exact thing years ago to Gertrude Neidlinger, who ran the Spy House, when the town wanted to sell that land to the county and she spoke against it. It’s the same M.O.! But people are starting to wise up. And the smarter we get, the more extreme the attacks will be. Just watch for it. They are operating under the theory that the louder they cry foul, the more likely they are to convince us. The facts will tell a different story altogether.

"The facts will tell a different story altogether"

Seems like the facts have been right on so far...

What is wrong with bringing that to light certain facts that may have been overlooked? Aren't rules meant to be followed and laws meant to be NOT broken? Or just for some people we should overlook them. Just because someone doesn't realize what they did was wrong doesn't make it right???

I will try that on a cop next time and see how far I get - but officer, I didn't realize I was speeding..

The facts are that the library saved money on the books through direct purchase, so taxpayers have not been hurt at all by this. In fact, we have benefitted by the addition of these fine histories to the library's collection. Certainly, there has been compliance with the spirit of the law, if not the very letter.

By speeding, you risk harm to others.

When do you shut your vicious mouth or do we pray for lightening to strike?

Talk about low life,it's you and your republican comrades of Middletown, not the people of Randall Gabrielan's stature, that are the problem!

Snakes are back biters and you will get your just desserts one day.
