Attention All Swim Club Members

Press Release:

This is an urgent call to all members of the
Middletown Swim and Tennis Club, Middletown Residents and Taxpayers.

On the agenda for the Township Committee Workshop Meeting is:

Item l: Swim Club Utility Dissolution/Property Sale

We are requesting all Middletown Swim Club members attend the Township Committee Workshop Meeting to be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Town Hall at 8:00 with their children, friends, posters and/or signs. Car pooling is an option.

With the pool club operating with business as usual in 2012 - our Township Committee says there may be an $81,000 shortfall that taxpayers will have to make up for.

Take note: This would be the first time since the club was purchased in 1997 that the town would have to supplement any loss to the club.

Here's how we see it:

If the pool club does not operate at all this year, a $225,000 bond payment still must be paid by Middletown taxpayers.

Solution: The SOS Committee is working on a solid business plan to have our MSTC operate at NO COST to taxpayers. To accomplish this, it HAS TO OPEN THIS SUMMER. Members and Non-members, it is your duty to show your support this Monday night! If it opens all 67,000 of us win!

Our swim club offers an affordable summer comfort for seniors, families, teens and tots and has done so since the 1960s!

What is at stake?
· Summer camps where children can play games, create crafts and swim.

· Availability of swim and tennis lessons for members.

· Organized activities: dive and splash contests, water polo, sharks and minnows, basketball games, Frisbee baseball, candy hunts, bowling trips and water aerobics to name a few.

· Our championship swim team who have brought opportunity to young athletes and pride to our town. Senior citizens enjoying a dip during adult swim or a game of cards with their friends.

· Special events: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Senior Day and Family Fun Nights with music and fun activities for the whole family.

Middletown Swim and Tennis Club is a safe, fun-filled haven for families to connect, relax and make friends. It has produced an Olympic medalist and elite Navy Seal. It is an asset to our community and important center of summer activities for families in Middletown Township.

Please plan to attend to support our town summer center for fun!

Your presence at Monday’s meeting is critical!!

Another false email. If the club is sold, the township DOES NOT have to pay the bond obligation.

Second false statement of the email is that it is open for Memorial Day. Club opens at the end of June.

Time to shut it down.

Hazlet Swim Club family rate is $578...and that rate is currently available to non-residents. That's where we will be this summer.

Anonymous...your correct.....IF the club is sold, the township owes nothing on the bond. IF the pool club is opened, the township still will owe nothing. The township does not contribute any money whatsoever towards the pool club. It is self-sustaining. Also, the club opens Memorial Day weekend for weekend use until school is out, it should be opened full time until then...your right.

Anonymous 2--have fun. hazlet is a beautiful swim club. I however, would like to keep my money here in the town I live in. Also, love having my children socialize with their peers and get to know other children of Middletown that they normally would not get to do because it is so large, they only get to socialize with the children in their school zone.
We can make our pool club just as beautiful as the surrounding ones, all we need is for it to be run properly. Now that our parks and rec guy is gone, I am POSITIVE that can happen! Give us a chance Middletown!

Anon 6:43. You are correct so far. The club WAS self sustaining due to the use of surplus funds to cover the most recent shortfalls. If the trends of the last 3 years are realized it WONT be self sufficient and will be on the backs of taxpayers. Time to move on.

How can you say its self sustaining. It's not money from township accounts get pumped into it every year. The pools and filter room need way to much work along. On the large pool alone there are cracks in the deep end that can not be fixed there is a cavern under the diving boards that will some day open up. If you membership people want it to open up and stay open by all means pool your money together and buy it from the town stop using my taxes to fix and run something my family and I will never use. As for the uses you have posted most if not all are for membership. The place is a dump and a eye sore and should be torn down.

Go to the beach!!!!!!! STOP USING MY TAXES FOR YOUR PRIVATE CLUB.

If the club does not open the politicians will soak that money up for their own personal gain. In the end of the day, your money will be taken and misspent and the government will overspend. Now, there is nothing to show for it.

Why won't the town sell off the property to a private company and let them run it properly?

The swim club has been running off their surplus for the last few years. Their surplus is now little over a thousand dollars. A drop in the bucket compared to what is needed to open this year. Unless you want to pool your money and buy the swim club, I think you'd better give it up.

The townhip is trying to sell the property, it just won't tell you who they are negotiating with and how the property will be zoned and used if it is sold and whether-or-not tax breaks are part of the deal the township is working on.

ALL MIDDLETOWN TAX PAYERS COME TO THE MEETING JOIN OUR GROUP S.O.T. SAVE OR TAXES. TELL THE COMMITTEE TO STOP DUMPING OUR HARD EARN MONEY INTO THE MONEY PIT SWIM CLUB. SELL THE PROPERTY TO A BUILDER AND PUT MONEY MAKING HOMES THERE ALONG WITH THE JOBS IT WILL CREATE. TELL THE CLUB CRONIES TO GO TO THE BEACH OR PUT A POOL IN THERE YARD. ALL TAX PAYING RESIDENTS COME TO THE MEETING AND TELL THE COMMITTEE YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH AND YOUR NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE. In todays economy do we really need to waste money on that big white elephant it is time to start putting money away. Stop the spending

How in God's name do these SOS nuts thinking that if this Money Pit opens "all 67,000 of us win"? How?? By having our tax dollars pay for THEIR summer fun? They need to give this fight up and spend their time filling out swim club apps to other local swim clubs , rather then trying to convince the general public who do NOT use this hole, that it's worth fighting for.
Do a Bake Sale SOS and buy the stupid Money Pit yourselves. I'm done paying for your swim club.

Wake up people!!!! The town can no longer pay for your private club. Either put up the money and buy it from the town or shut up and stop your whining. It is what it is.

uvenelsoHow sad to see all these negative responses. Then you will be the same people who will question it when your entire town goes downhill... How did that happen?
Ridiculous comments. I find it hard to believe Middletown residents would speak so harshly about the pool club. Sad if you are not intelligent enough to get the real facts before placing these comments. You should go to town hall tonight to find out the REAL story and support your Township's recreational facility that gave us an Olympic Swimmer and Elite Navy Seal. Grow up.

It doesn't matter the land under the swim club is as good as sold. There is some sort of deal made by the lincroft cabal.

Ice rink with a gym great place for that. And know what we might have an .Olympic hockey team or maybe the navy seals can use it for cold weather training

LMAO!!!!

The fat lady has sung!!! Put up the for sale sign the swim club is done...... Thank god finally another good move on the township committees part. Middletown keeps moving forward and getting rid of the dead waste

As of last nite the Swim Club is DONE! Finally the TC is getting smarter at not spending taxpayers dollars on things not everyone uses. If the SOS group wants their club so badly; find an investor to buy it at Auction, rebuild it and THEN the Swim Club can be run by them. Either that or start looking at Hazlet and Holmdel clubs...summer is right around the corner.

Anon Feb. 6 10:18am, nice prediction.
No swim club as it's a waste of $ but all TC committee members got shiny new IPADS (as if PC's, Iphones,Cell phones are not longer efficient..haha)

Hey Anon Feb 6, 9:56am -Take a look where 'YOUR' taxpayers money is going now?

Oh Money will be misspent and debt will go up. Just nothing nice in town to show for it. Hello Jersey East Orange....I mean Middletown

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:36.
No its Haha. the club is done.
As for" Just nothing nice in town to show for it." That dump of a pool club was only open 3 months out of the year. There are so many other nicer things in middletown just open up you eyes and get out and explore middletown. The pool club was just that a club and a private one at that. Hopefully someone will come in and take it down and build a sports complex with indoor ice Hockey for the kids and a gym and possibly keep the smaller pools all indoors for year round use for all not just membership

Anonymous said...

anon 5:22....and do you think a sports complex is going to be free??? Why do you insist on saying the pool club was a private membership....do you not get the recreational flyer with sign ups for camps,a ctivities and pool club? It is membership based just like anything else...you pay a fee you use it...no discrimination as to who can go. Let's see the land be sold...let's watch what goes there....anything that goes there besides a pool is restricting its participants...a pool is geared toward everyone...seniors, babies, and yes even the disabled....can a senior or disabled person ice skate?

Anonymous said...

Yep they can. And since you only take out what you want from my statement you might want to go back and read it oh here you go "possibly keep the smaller pools all indoors for year round use instead of just open 3 months out of the year".

I heard there was a meeting with the SOS and Mayor and CFO yesterday. Anyone care to share what happened?
