The following letter was received from Mr. Bob Latsch
Now with two trustee appointments along with the first current appointment, lets the mayor have voting control, control enough to take taxpayer funds as needed. These two appointees will not for the betterment of the Library, no they are there to control for Committee and Mayor not the Library or cardholders.
Trustees such as the last appointee are there at the behest of the mayor to do his bidding, appointments should not be. The right way is to have the library select the trustees then the public vote to accept or not.
The Middletown Public Library is just that, public for all. It is not a bank or cookie jar for the mayor to take from for holes in his budget. The appointed cronies have to go, let the voting public decide on trusteeship.

Bravo Mr. Latsch!
Bob,
I don't think you are fully aware of the spending frenzy that has been going on at the library. When you are given more than enough money to run the whole library and spend it frivilously, something needs to be done. Apparently the TC decided this is what needed to be done, and the township residents elected them to do such.
The trustees are appointed for 5 years on a staggered years to keep it politically even. Unfortunately Democrats have not had much say in government lately, but thats how the votes come out at the end of the day, and you can't argue with numbers...
Exactly when did this "spending frenzy" begin?
MIDDLETOWN's Library should become part of the Monmouth County Library System.
This would put an end to to hanky panky by the goons that serve on Middletown's TC. They are no trustworthy !
They ruin everything they touch !
Spending frivolously? Then why is it that there was enough money saved by the library for capital projects for the TC to abscond with to use somewhere else because of THEIR mismanagement? Let's cut all the political crap and do what's best for the people of Middletown for a change. I was at one of the library board meetings where appointee Settembrino had the arrogance and ignorance to say that he never needed a library when he was in college. Scary thought for an "educated" man.
Unfortunately for Mr. Latsch, but very fortunately for the taxpayers of Middletown, the Library Board does not get to elect it's own members.
It's also very fortunate that the LB doesn't get to set the amount of money it collects from the taxpayers too!
Should be a fun meeting to attend next week. Bring your popcorn!
I am sure it has been going on for a long time. Government needs to reflect society. When governemnt is spending frivilously in a tough economy, people will protest those actions. Spending frivilously does not mean you are broke or don't have enough money, it is just being spent foolishly. As a taxpayer, I would like to see the money spent to go as far as possible. I am not saying they need to cut anything specifically, but maybe better spending practices could result in alot of savings at the end of the year. And maybe is a chance I bet would win!
IE-At my house I cut my electric bill by turning off lights and such, but I also changed my utility suppliers for additional savings. Little things like that will save more when you are talking about a place like the library. And thats just one easy example. The efficiency of government needs to be increased, to make OUR dollars go further...
To make our dollars go further, our method of bonding in such a way that best lines the pockets of GOP head Mr. Carton's firm could be revamped, with bids from a few different law firms, no?!?!
Anony 8:51a.m....
You betcha !!1
The best teacher sets a good example. The TC stinks and is incompetent at managing money or anything else. When does the BS stop??
They (the TC) screw up everything they touch!! Our schools, our library and all aspects of government.Inept at most of what they interfere with.
You people really amaze me. I really hope these new trustees can bring some light to the common practices off the library... You have been drinking the cool aide too long!!!
Anonymous 9:02, etc..
Spoken like an ignorant, uneducated, douch...or in other words, a Republican!
