Congressman Pallone To Stands With Middletown Officials to Announce Fire Grant Tomorrow

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 12, 2012

Middletown, N.J. – On Friday, January 13, 2012, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. will visit Middletown Fire Department’s Navesink Hook & Ladder Fire Company station to announce a grant for nearly half a million dollars that will help ensure the safety of the Middletown community. The $465,320 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) will be used to purchase new radios to replace equipment made obsolete by new Federal Communications Commission standards.

During his visit the Congressman will tour the fire station and discuss the importance of public safety with Middletown officials including Mayor Anthony Fiore, Fire Chief Andrew Spears and other local leaders.

"When dealing with public safety issues, having modernized communications equipment can mean the difference between life and death," said Pallone. "This funding will make a difference locally by making it safer for firefighters and first responders to do their jobs and save lives."

In 2011, over one million dollars in grant money was awarded to fire departments in the sixth Congressional district to improve community emergency services. Pallone recently announced a $175,468 grant to the Ocean Township Fire District 1 for a new breathing apparatus, which will replace 36 units that are at the end of their useful life as well as $617,500 to acquire equipment like pump trucks, rescue vehicles, ambulances and fireboats.

"At a time when other funding is being cut for critical services such as public safety, health and education, it's more important than ever that the federal government step in with critical support to protect our communities."

The mayor seems like he's turned over a new leaf this year, being all nice nice to his fire/first-aiders. This is the 3rd example of it already. First he thanked volunteers on New Years' Day and specifically named fire/first-aiders (the opposite of what he did on 9/11/11.) Then he named a fire/first-aider to his/our Library Board. Now he's doing this. My, my, my. I wonder what inspired him?

Well I'm sure Fiore won't even say hello to Pallone the whole time they're at the firehouse.

I think the Mayor has always been nice to the Fire and First Aid squads. If there would have been any time to kiss up wouldn't it have been last year when he was up for election?

Maybe all of the poison spilled to the FD and first aid from his opponent last year were really false?

The value of having a volunteer fire dept and first aid in this town is very well known to the TC. To staff both those dept's would bankrupt this town. They very much support the Fire Dept and First Aid Squads. Just look at the re-org meeting. The Mayor took the time to swear each chief in individually, instead of a group thing and out the door....just saying!

Anon 6:50 a.m.,

Damage control is what today's all about.
Perhaps our mayor was advised to make sure he's in attendance today,
after having dissed the largest volunteer fire dept. in the world as they processed past him, and all he did was fumble with his script and keep calling for the navy's color guard.
Now he's got a 28 y/o fire/first-aider as his appointee to the library trustee board.
Our mayor has nothing to do with the grant awarded to Middletown Fire. Frank Pallone does.
Mayor Fiore will stand in his shadow and unbashedly bask.

Fire Officials are sworn in individually every year. This year was no different. If people would attend the meetings they would know what takes place.
