Letter - Grenafege & Fowler Support Open Government and the Broadcasting Public Meetings

To the Editor,

Late one weekend night I was flipping t.v. channels to view my new expanded line-up, when what to my wondering eyes should appear but a lively meeting of the Howell township committee. Enthralled, I watched for over 45 minutes. Howell's public service channel carries videotaped committee, planning and zoning meetings, repeated often and available for download.

My own township officials in Middletown adamantly refuse to offer videotaped meetings, which would be helpful for all, especially older people, workers, and people with disabilities. Are the officials fearful that they could not compete with :"Dancing with the Stars"? Committeeman Scharfenberger said that it would cost $100,000 to tape meetings, a gross exaggeration, then asserted that even at no cost he would not approve.

Candidates Jim Grenafege and Carol Fowler support open government, including videotaped meetings. It's time for a change in township committee members.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Schwebel

Dr. Scharfenberger is well know for his hyperbole and stretching the truth. The fact that he lied about not accepting a salary or the position he was holding before last Nov. election shows a lack of character. I'm trying to be polite, but I wouldn't trust him to know the difference between fact and fiction.
The man is simply intellectually dishonest.
Middletown desperately needs open and transparent government. The TC refuses to allow the community our basic rights to know what our elected and appointed officials are doing. Attending all these meetings is impossible, so why not show the community the respect we deserve.
After all tax payers are first! RIGHT?

Scharfenberger is afraid people will see him for what he really is and so are the rest of them.

Nothing like seeing it in person....the fakers and the takers.

Written by a woman who makes a living by suing
Anything she says is never taken seriously it's always
about her as she sits home eating Bon-Bons and runs to township meetings trying to have the world change just for her , can't feel sorry for someone who refuses to at least try to care about others not just her, making
mountains out of mole hills, most times.

Anonymous 1:15,

You are so full of horse manure it isn't funny anymore. NO< I AM NOT CAROLYN but I have seen her fight for what is right, especially for others who are also disabled as she is.

These characters on the TC,not one of them knows right from wrong. Haven't got a clue amongst the lot of the carpetbaggers and cheaters and the ethically and integrity challenged.

Anon 1:51 PM,
Attacking the messanger doesn't destroy the facts and truth in the message--sometimes it can reinforce it.

Your comment is weak.

anon 1:51 Your comment is crass and a pathetic attempt to divert from the real issue. .
I wish Ms. Schwebel could run, but unfortunately she's in a wheel chair.
It doesn't matter what she may or may not eat or what you think she does for a living.
She's not the only one who believes the township meetings should be televised. I'm sure its just a matter of time, because the Republicans are running out of their stupid excuses.

The republicans in this township have plenty to hide and wonder just how legal their current tactics at TC meetings are. There are sunshine laws and rules to follow but of course Nelson & Co think they know it all.

All it takes is someone blowing the whistle on them to a real listening ear in higher government or the court system.
