I have a question. What mayor neglects to announce firemen as they parade past him on 9/11, at a memorial service? That would be Anthony Fiore.
Fiore displayed either his incompetence or contempt(?) tonight when he announced "Now the Navy will present their colors." No Navy color guard walked past. Instead it was 100 or so volunteer firemen and first-aiders. They paraded past him in silence. He said nothing. When they made it to the other side to the entrance to the memorial, Fiore got back up to the mic, "Now the Navy will present their colors."
He made absolutely no mention of his volunteer emergency responders. When the commander of Earle in Leonardo, Capt. Harrison, got his turn up there, he gave an outstanding speech, where he made mention of the biggest volunteer fire company in the world, Middletown's. I'm who started the applause then. I was sitting next to the a fire captain's wife. She'd looked at me puzzled when no firemen were introduced as being there. An enormous flag was hanging from 2 fire aerial trucks across from where our mayor sat. What is wrong with him, I wonder.

Carol,

You ask what is wrong with him....arrogance and ignorance....perfect together and he's good at both !

Why make this event political? Is that going to be part of your campaign?

This is what happens when carpet baggers move into town and take over. The current members of the TC are not well versed on the history of volunteerism in Middletown, because they never volunteered or did very little, most likely in a self serving capacity.

I dare say that probably each one of the firefighters, EMS personnel and Police Auxiliary at the service has volunteered more hours to the township individually than the TC has collectively.

How right you are anonymous 8:13 a.m.,
Since the TC members are supposed to be representatives of those they are to represent. The conduct of the TC currently serving as mayor, is certainly not representatives of the people of this community.

Anthony Fiore and more of the TC members needed courses in how to conduct themselves and they need to remember who they serve !

Maybe the Dale Carnnige courses could teach them all something they certainly need to know and don't appear to know at all. Their behavior is often times contemptible....

e.g the conduct of the TC members ,especially Fiore ("you don't know what we know")at the library during a meeting about transferring funds and Fiore's conduct when asked when the public was to be informed about the proposed turf fields on West Front Street..."we don't have to tell you".

Just who in hell does he think he represents anyway???

That's just the facts of the matter and common courtesy.Mr. Fiore !

As a private citizen and not running for any election I would have to agree with Mrs. Fowler.
Mr. Fiore did not do justice to those who were so heroic. I was very disappointed with his lack of
recognition and that has nothing to do with politics.

How is this political? An observation was made by Mrs. Fowler and apparently several other people. It is not political but rather it goes to the character of the mayor.

IT GOES TO THE CHARACTER OF ALL SERVING ON THE TC IN MIDDLETOWN TODAY!!!

THEY ALL LEAVE MUCH TO BE DESIRED !

THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS....IT SPEAKS TO THE CHARACTER OF THE PERSON ,Party affiliation be DAMNED... ignorance and arrogance and hypocrisy is not confined to any one party ,that's for damn sure !

Ms. Fowler's comment on the lack of comment and acknowledgment of 9/11 first responders by Mr. Fiore is not political.

Is it at all probable that Mayor Fiore was not being present to the significant event taking place around him; that he wasn't prepared?

It was Fiore's ceremonial job as a ceremonial mayor to impeccably attend to the performance of his mayoral duties on this special and solemn occasion.

Ms. Fowler made no mention of her candidacy in her comment. You added that element to your comment. Could it be that you made Ms. Fowler's comment political and part of your campaign, when it wasn't intended to be on her part?

It's worth noting that none of those emergency volunteer responders do it for any type of recognition. It's a calling for them. They wouldn't be waking up at all hours, leaving their families on holidays, rushing into burning structures, if they didn't feel deep down that this is what they were meant to do in their life.

One such person who walked past our rude mayor is a fourth generation MIddletown fireman, my younger kid, my son.

Who knows; maybe our mayor's heart isn't in this race. Maybe he did it because he's ready to step down.

Mrs. Fowler, were you at the same 9/11 ceremony I was at??? The speaker CLEARLY introduced the fire department BEFORE they walked in. I went back and watched my video of it, the ceremony was nice. No need for comments like that on the anniversary of such a horrific day for Middletown. I would very much like to hear your ideas on other topics than this if you expect my support in November!

The last anonymous should post that video somewhere if indeed she has it.

Like I said, she is trying to make this political.

Show us the video you speak of -if it exists. And not one of those cut and paste Fox News videos either. Since you were savvy enough to record it, why not share with the class?

Anonymous said...

This is the same mayor and committee that failed to be aware of a methadone clinic being open and active in the Apple Farm area of Middletown until it was brought to Fiore's attention by residents living in the area.

Anonymous said...

Yes, please share the video, otherwise your post has no credibility.

Who do you think chaplin Harris is? He is the FIRE DEPT chaplin. The fire dept was not shorted in any way. I really hope that Mrs. Fowler gets onto more important topics than this. I want to know how she is going to make middletown better for me and my kids? How does she feel about the swim club?

Those are the important things to the residents of middletown, not that how the fire dept feels is not important, its just not going to make much of a difference to me or my tax bill... :-)

Again, video please.

Sounds as if it is safe to assume there is no video.

Again real issues, what is Mrs. Fowler all about? I would like to know how she plans to make Middletown better for us??? All she has said is that Tony Fiore is evil, but if we all agree on that, then let's move on and hear her GREAT ideas!!!

Anonymous said...

anon 6:58 Talking about new ideas....let's see Fiore & co. used Sean Byrnes' & Patrick Short's ideas. Haven't heard anything new from him. Haven't heard a word about what Steff Murray's ideas are. Maybe she's too busy writing racy books.
Mrs. Fowler expressed her opinion about the conduct of Mr. Fiore. Do you expect her to talk about her ideas with this posting?
But nice try with the diversionary tactics.

I was not aware of past practices of the mob, maybe she could host a meet and greet for residents like myself that have no clue who Mrs. Fowler is! My intention was not to create a diversion, but merely bring to light what I consider to be the public perception of making comments that only reference the opponent as being bad without having content to boost our candidate! There is no gain by doing that on our site when we all have the same goal... And if you can't agree to any part of that then maybe I should be voting independent.

anon 11:26 I'm not sure what you mean by your statement "there is no gain by doing that on our site when we all have the same goal"
The goal of Mike's blog is to post information and people's comments.
Mrs. Fowler expressed an opinion about Mr. Fiore's conduct towards firemen and emergency responders who are very near and dear to her heart. So why do you have a problem with that?
I'm sure there will be ample opportunity to hear more about her and her running mate. You can also go to the Middletown Democratic web site.
As far as voting Independent, you should know that there is no one running as an Independent in Middletown.
