Wasn't it Former Committeeman Sean Byrnes that championed the idea to form a committee to between the Middletown Township Committee and the Middletown Board of Education for the purpose of finding areas in which the two could share services? I'm just saying....
MIDDLETOWN — A collaborative committee between the township and the Board of Education that would facilitate shared services has begun to take shape.
The Township Committee approved a resolution establishing the new commit- tee’s members at its March 7 meeting.
Mayor Anthony Fiore, Committeeman Steve Massell and public member Judy Benedict will serve on the committee along with Township Administrator Anthony Mercantante.
Board members Vincent Brand and Michael Mascone, Interim Superintendent Thomas Pagano and Business Administrator Amy Gallagher will represent the school district on the committee.
The committee aims to identify areas of overlapping expenses and investigate possible shared or consolidated services between the two entities.
“A lot of those discussions happen already; however, we’re always more than willing to comply with trying to find every idea that we can to share resources with the Board of Education and other entities,” Fiore said in an interview.
“Hopefully, that committee will allow us to explore other and every avenue that we possibly can with the Board of Education to share services as much as possible for the benefit of the taxpayers of Middletown.”
Board President Michael Donlon expressed similar sentiments, but stressed that the committee is still young.
“Our Board of Education is looking to get a better understanding of the benefits that shared services may bring,” he said.
“We sincerely believe that collaboration is a win for both parties, and the board will continue in our efforts to work side by side with the township as we both proceed through these very interesting and changing times,” he said....

Recycling, shared services, consolidation of departments. Having the swim club managed by the YMCA. All ideas from Sean Byrnes & Patrick Short.
Too bad these Republican hypocrites haven't admitted they need a finance committee.
One can only be hopeful.
Shouldn't y'all just be happy that Mr. Byrnes idea has come to fruition?
I don't know, perhaps it took a while to actually getting it up and running, but I didn't read anything in the article from someone trying to claim "credit" for the idea - just that it's being done.
So even when a idea you like gets implemented, you STILL are upset?
Talk about partisan BS...
We're just making sure that the record is set straight so that others can't take credit for it, like they often do.
"Y'all" have an all republican stranglehold on the township, a governor to dole out the patronage jobs and free reign to screw WE the taxpayers of Middletown. So why are "y'all" spending YOUR time here?

I'm here because I enjoy political trash talk, plain and simple.
You know absolutely nothing about my background or beliefs except what we both post here anonymously.
I see it as hypocritical to be "morally outraged" when idea you favor is acted upon by the Township Committee.
I happen to think that most rational people would agree.
I also think that it's apparent that the majority of people in Middletown agree with the direction the TC is taking. The election results over the past few years kind of speak for themselves, no?
Anony 7:45 a.m....
Why the hell did these idiots wait until we had a near 14% increase in municipal taxes before doing anything positive. Do they all have I Q's in the less than 60 range. Talk about political BS,you are the epitome of inane BS for sure and just as ignorant about anything of substance!
A finance committee is needed and one only needed to hear the talk about volunteerism and the money it saves at the county level at the Freeholders meeting last night!
These "characters" (poor actors at that) are morally, ethically and integrity challenged for sure. In the mean while the residents of Middletown suffer from this TC's incompetent behavior as the blind lead the blind.
It's all about money, ladies and gentlemen, our money and it's being squandered on political patronage.
Make no mistake about it that some of the hypocrites would really be dangerous if they could operate with any real brains.
Let's see what lying capers the taxpayers are in for this year.
anon 7:10 I'm sure your point is gee well we should all be happy that a good idea is finally being implemented. However the partisan BS began when the resolution was voted on last May and never got to the BOE till July. Explain that.
Pure politics. Stall a good idea till the election is over so Byrnes doesn't get credit. I believe Byrnes and Mahony both campaigned on this issue. Their opponents didn't.
