From what I was told, it was a quiet and otherwise uneventful meeting that finished up early, with the big news of the night being that the BOE agreed to allow School Superintendent Karen Bilbao to leave her position within the district early. Bilbao is contractually obligated to stay on the job for 120 days after handing in her resignation, which she handed in on December 1st, but the school board waived that requirement and will allow her to leave on February 1st.
I was told that no real discussions took place at this meeting, on who would replaced Bilbao as Superintendent. As I see it, this could be a problem that I hope doesn't turn out to be something more significant.
With MTEA Union contract talks looming and the new 2% cap on property taxes that will kick in starting January 1st, it will be important to have some one who is experienced and knowledgeable leading the school district and formulation this years upcoming budget. At the moment there doesn't seem to be anyone currently capable of handling this.
I have heard from several people that the likely candidate to replace Karen Bilbao as Superintendent of Schools is James Stefankiewicz, the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum due to ties that he has within the Monmouth County Department of Education.
Whoever the new Superintendent is I hope that they are in place relatively soon, but only after a well thought out and intensive search for the best possible candidate. The upcoming year will be a challenging one for the Middletown school district and a truly qualified individual is needed to lead it.

Look for an interim super to be installed. After the April elections the new board will probably promote a custodian to save money.

In your blog last week, you reported a sitting board member was brought up on ethics charges and maybe removed from the BOE. This turned out to be a total rumor, why didn't you blog about that??

If you reread that blog post, you will see that I stated that an announcement, if not made at the last BOE meeting may be made sometime in January.
But, until the School Ethics Board make the announcement first the Middletown BOE can not act.
Due to the secrecy of ethics complaints it is possible that not all BOE were informed of the pending ruling.
We all just have to wait and see.
Your slip is showung Mike. You said that it is possible that not all board members were informed of the ruling.
One could then infer that some of the board members were informed. Which would lead one to believe that your informant is a board member. Now if this post doesn't make it to the blog, that would lend further creedence to the theory.
In response to the poster that said it was a rumor, isn't it funny how people don't consider something to be a rumor if it turns out to be true.

Of course it is possible, anything is possible but for the record, the information past along to me was not from a board member.
Inferring and assuming are much the same thing and remember the old adage about those that assume.
And yes I know I am spreading a rumor, I said as much in the post. People can take it for what they wish, but I think something is in fact going on. As I said time will tell.
And next time JoeB use a screen name when posting comments here, it's much better than posting anonymously and leads a little more credibility to your digs.
