Gerry "The Tax Man" Scharfenberger; Middletown's Tax Rate Up 41.9% Since Scharfenberger Elected In 2005

It is quite obvious that Gerry Scharfenberger has earned the title of "TAX MAN", the numbers don't lie.

Since Gerry Scharfenberger was first elected to the Middletown Township Committee in November of 2004, the municipal tax rate has skyrocketed upwards.

If the currently proposed Middletown Township budget for 2010 (this year), which contains a 13% tax increase, passes the muster of the Local Finance Board and is adopted as is, Middletown's municipal tax rate will have risen a stunning 41.9% since 2005, the year that our wonderful, appointed mayor, Gerry Scharfenberger was first sworn into office.

The chart below tells the tale:

(Click on chart to enlarge)

It seems that things were going "pretty good" before Scharfenberger came onto the Committee.

The numbers represented on the chart are real numbers that came from township documents, they are verifiable and can be found with little effort if Googled.

Looking at the chart it is very plain to see that every year the amount of revenue generated by property taxes continues to rise and suggests that the Township Committee clearly has no plan to generate revenue by any other means other than through local property taxes.

It is too bad that our appointed Zoning and Planning Boards continue to allow the rezoning of commercial properties to residential.

Relying on the homeowners to balance the Township budget is only going to drive those living on the edge of affordability out of town. It seems that the average Middletown homeowner will need to make more than the $108K per year, as stated in Money Magazine, to continue to afford to live in this "Top 100 Places To Live" town.

The sooner residents realize that these types of out of control tax rate increases are unaffordable and unsustainable, and are the result of lack of leadership by RINO Gerry Scharfenberger and his current GOP majority which includes Pam Brightbill, Tony Fiore and Steve Massell, the sooner they will see the Township budget begin to stabilize, spending reduced and tax rates decline.

Scharfenberger may have a PHD, but he obviously has no business sense. We can't spend money we don't have, and that has obviously happened in the last 5 years.
The waste has been in poor planning, mismanagement and our increasing bond debt.
This tax increase is the icing on the cake. and will hopefully get people to wake up and make the right decisions in November. We simply can't afford 3 more years of Mr. Scharfenberger.

You should run this article as an ad in the Asbury Park Press as well as in any and all other available forms of media. You might want to distribute this as a blast e-mail.
Speaking of blast e-mail, in 2008 "Mayor Doctor Scharfenberger" was fond of sending out blast campaign e-mails for the Fiore and Brightbill campaign. He used Monmouth University resources, which jeapordized the University's leagal non-profit tax status and violated university policy. Essentially, the Mayor (aka Sheriff of Nottingham) broke the tax law.

This man's ignorance in finance and management is exceeded only by his arrogance and his ego!!

A bumbling political disgrace and should not even be considered for re-election.

Middletown needs representatives who are public servants not self centered, self serving , hard core politicians .
We currently have an over abundance of three now and one other whose only comment is "no comment".

Rather useless for sure that committeeman. Why doesn't that one just stay home or resign...Massell doesn't appear to want to serve and probably never did.

It is interesting that last year this republican majority tried to blame the tax increases on the Democrat running for re-election.

What a farce from these hypocrits.Scharfenberger, Brightbill and the mouth ,Fiore !!

No only do we have to replace the "taxman" Scharfenberger, but these other two farces will face the voters next year !!!

The increase in the municipal tax is clearly the FAULT of the republicans.....they have had the majority for NEARLY THIRTY YEARS !!!!

They are exposed by their own blame game and that is the fact of the matter.

A blatant disregard for the taxpayers in this town CAN NO LONGER BE IGNORED........
matters not any taxpayer's party affiliation, this man does deserve to be re-elected.

DEFEAT Scharfenberger and protect your wallet, voters.
